ASON/GMPLS Introduces control plane to ON.

It’s the first time to adopt dynamic switching function.

Distributed control plane is the trend.

ASON: Automatic Switched Optical Network, Requirements defined by ITU-T.

GMPLS: Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching, A series protocols (LMP, RSVP-TE, OSPF) defined by IETF.

ASON Protocols• GMPLS: In a broad sense, the multi-service label switching protocol

provides the functions of setting up, deleting and querying a connection,

synchronization and restoration, rerouting protection. Moreover, it

provides the service related functions.

OSPF-TE (routing):

Flood and gather topology for calculating service path

RSVP-TE (signaling):

Establish and then maintain the service path

LMP (link management):

Discover the neighbors and links

Explanations to LMP – Control Channel Check Process

• Control Channel Management› Function

» Set up and maintain control channels between nodes.

› Implementation mode

» Inter-Node config message switching and a fast keep alive mechanis

m

› Control channel management contains the following contents:

» Setup of control channels

» Fast keep alive process

» Disabling of control channels

Explanations to LMP – Control Channel Check Process• A Case of the Setup Process of a C

ontrol Channel

› Node A sends a Config message to Node

B.

› If Node A receives the following informati

on from Node B:

› The ConfigAck message indicates that th

e control channel is set up;

› If Node A receives the following informati

on from Node B:The ConfigNAck messag

e indicates that parameter negotiation fail

s.The control channel is not set up.

Explanations to LMP – Data Link Connectivity Check

• Preparations for the check:› Node A sends BeginVerify and receiv

es the BeginVerifyAck message.

• Check process› Node A keeps sending the Test mess

age on the data link at specific time until it receives teststatussuccess or teststatufailure response on the control channel.

• Check end› Node A sends the Endverify message

and waits for the response. After Node A receives the EndVerifyAck message or the response times out, the check process ends.

Explanations to LMP – Attribute Consistency Check of TE Link (Example)

• Analysis on consistency check process of the TE link

› Node A launches the check process by sending the LinkSummary message regularl

y.

› If Node A receives the LinkSummaryAck message, the consistency check succeed

s’ if Node A receives the LinkSummaryNack message, the consistency check fails.

Explanations to the RSVP Protocol-Summary of General Knowledge

• For LSP setup, deletion, rerouting, optimization or attribute change,

the initiating node is the primary node of the service. The

intermediate node and end node are passive. When they receive the

message from the upstream node, they perform relevant operations.
