ARTICLE KM-1GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

KM-100 MATERIALS PERMITTED

(a) Materials that are to be used under the rules ofthis Division, except for integral cladding, welding fillermetals, weld metal overlay, and liner materials, shallconform to a material specification given in SectionII, and shall be listed in Tables KCS-1, KHA-1, orKNF-1. The termmaterial specificationused in thisDivision shall be the referenced specification in SectionII together with the supplemental requirements listedin the User’s Design Specification (see KG-311.7).

(b) Materials that are outside the limits of size and/or thickness stipulated in the title or scope clause ofthe material specifications given in Section II andpermitted by Part KM may be used if the materialsare in compliance with the other requirements of thematerial specification and no size or thickness limitationis specified in this Division. In those specifications inwhich chemical composition or mechanical propertiesvary with size or thickness, materials outside the rangeshall be required to conform to the composition andmechanical properties shown for the nearest specifiedrange.

(c) Materials other than those allowed by this Divi-sion shall not be used for construction of the pressureretaining component, including bolting and prestressedinner layer, unless data thereon are submitted to andapproved by the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Committeein accordance with Appendix F.

(d) The user shall confirm the coupling of dissimilarmetals will have no harmful effect on the corrosionrate or life of the vessel for the service intended (seeKG-311.7).

KM-101 Certification by MaterialsManufacturer

The Materials Manufacturer shall certify that allrequirements of the applicable materials specificationsin Section II, all special requirements of Part KMwhich are to be fulfilled by the Materials Manufacturer, and all supplementary material requirements specified

20

by the User’s Design Specification (KG-311) have beencomplied with. The certification shall include certifiedreports of numerical results of all required tests orcertificates of compliance, and shall certify that allrequired examinations and repairs have been performedon the materials. Also see KE-200. All conflicts betweenthe materials specifications and the special requirementsherein shall be noted and compliance with the specialrequirements stated (see KF-111).

KM-102 Pressure Parts Supplied by Others

Pressure parts that are furnished by parties otherthan the Manufacturer responsible for the completedvessel shall conform to all applicable requirements ofthis Division as related to a completed vessel, includinginspection in the shop of the parts manufacturer. PartialData Reports as provided for in KS-301 and KG-421shall be required for welded parts only. When partsare furnished with a nameplate and the nameplateinterferes with further fabrication or service, and wherestamping on the material is prohibited, the Manufacturerof the completed vessel, with the concurrence of theInspector, may remove the nameplate. The removal ofthe nameplate shall be noted in the Remarks sectionof the vessel Manufacturer’s Data Report and thenameplate shall be destroyed.

KM-103 Base Material for Integral Cladding,Weld Metal Overlay, and OtherProtective Linings

Base materials over which integral cladding or weldmetal overlay materials are applied shall satisfy therequirements of Part KM. Base materials in whichcorrosion-resistant or abrasion-resistant liners are usedshall also meet the requirements of Part KM.
