Case 1997-4
UNS N08367 MaterialSection VIII, Division 1
Inquiry: Under what conditions may solution an-nealed UNS N08367 material with the chemical compo-sition listed in Table 1 and the tensile propertieslisted in Table 3, and otherwise conforming to therequirements of Specications SB-366, SB-462, SB-564, SB-675, SB-676, SB-688, SB-690, or SB-691, asapplicable for the product form (see Table 2), be usedin the construction of vessels and parts under the rulesof Section VIII, Division 1?
Reply: It is the opinion of the Committee that thematerial described in the Inquiry may be used for bothwelded and unwelded construction under the rules of Section VIII, Division 1, provided the following addi-tional requirements are met.
(a) The maximum allowable design stress values intension shall be those listed in Table 4.
(b) For external pressure design, Fig. NFN-12 of Section II, Part D shall be used.
(c) Welding Procedure Qualications and perform-ance qualications shall be conducted as prescribed in
Section IX. The material shall be considered to be P-No. 45.
(d) Heat treatment after forming or welding is neitherrequired nor prohibited. However, if heat treatment isapplied, the solution annealing treatment shall consistof heating to a minimum temperature of 2025F andthen quenching in water or rapidly cooling by othermeans.
