players of Asian textile industry, global input suppliers

and service providers to deliberate on key areas of

business, including regional as well as global issues

concerning this sector. The Conference also focuses on

Asian Textile Conference

Asia is the undisputed leader of the textiles and garment manufacturing in the

world with China predominantly occupying a major share in the global textile

business space. China faces sluggish internal demand and a decrease in export

orders due to rising labor costs and labor shortage in coastal provinces and the

appreciation of the RMB. This has led to the growth of textile and apparel

exports in other Asian countries, especially Bangladesh, Vietnam, India and

Cambodia. India enjoys a comparative advantage over China in terms of skilled

manpower, raw material availability and cost of production. The direction of

exports has also shifted to the ASEAN region, Brazil and India. The global trade

agreements under negotiation are bound to challenge India's businesses in

many ways.

Changing trends in Asian Textiles & Apparel Trade

The Indian textiles industry, currently estimated at

around US$ 115 billion, is expected to reach US$

350 billion by 2024.

The Indian government has come up with many

export promotion policies for the textiles sector

including 100 per cent FDI in the Indian textiles

sector under the automatic route.

The Make in India program launched by Prime

Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is devised to transform

India into a global design and manufacturing hub.

Make in India is opening investment doors. The

world's largest democracy is well on its way to

becoming the world's most powerful economy.

The amended Technology Upgradation Fund

Scheme approved by the Government is a great

boost to the textiles & apparel industry including

textile machinery sector. Government is aiming at

Employment generation and export under the new

ATUFS by encouraging textiles & clothing industry

and promotion of technical textile sector.
