2. EU Funding
• What would support
researchers in applying for EU funding?
15
2.1 ICT
• Local networks/knowledge
Local knowledge is important: some focus on
gaming software and the needs of local people, so
we should have good knowledge on information
area.
• Research support organizations
16
2.2 HEALTH, FOOD SECURITY & SAFETY
• Mentoring– Decide what target should we focus and what should not
be done
– Sharing and having training sessions like FinCEAL’s is important: learn from experienced people
• Funds for Proposal Writing
• Relevant EU Partners
• Easy-to-use list of Call
• Planning in advance (Preparation Strategy)
• Pre-evaluation
17
2.3 WATER MANAGEMENT
• Provide support (€) & info to/on networking events
• Make use of existing Finnish contacts!
E.g: If you need partner from Mekong, make use of existing Finnish contacts, somebody have the contact from the Mekong region, they maybe link up. Contact Aalto/FRRC/VITRI/UniPID
• Support for project preparation
• Training on project applications/calls
• LGU’s (Local Government Units’s) to involve decisions makers
• Support for creating contacts
18
2.1 RENEWABLE ENERGY
• Money! for preparation and pre-evaluation
• Provide good, relevant examples
(templates…)
• Create clear and updated database of
consultants/experts in funding application
• Local support
– Customer/end users
– Government
19

Summary Notes
• LUKE is an emerging water resource institute
• CLEEN (consortium of the Finnish companies that make top quality research in Finland) & FIBIC (Industry on Forest and Biodiversity which do research on development) are typically large companies. They have own administrations as well but they are integrated into government’s projects also.
• Asian Studies in Turku has a catalogue: asianet.fi. A helpful catalogue to find studies in the same field.
