THIS CAUSES OVERCONSUMPTION/

WASTE

CURRENTLYUTILITIES ARE

INCLUDED IN RENT-NO INCENTIVE TO

CONSERVEELECTRICITY

Here'sthe problem:

As you can see there is a ton of variation from townhouse to townhouse.

- Some houses using around 500 watts per month.

- Some houses use up to almost 2,500 watts per month.

HOW BAD IS IT?

CURRENTLY...

ORThe landlord allows 900

KWH per month per house

An average of $187.00 per

house (whichever is higher)

with no overage charges

San Francisco Chapter

The average electricity used per month per house is over

900 watts every month except January

WHOOPS

San Francisco Chapter

In the past year the cost of 900 KWH

has been less than the allotted dollar

amount per house for electricity which

is $187.00 on average

ITS OK!

San Francisco Chapter

Each house has 5 tenants

goes towards utilities each month.

Monthly money for utilities $350. 00

Water monthly average: - $40.00

Sewer monthly average: - $43.33

Gas monthly average: - $80.00

Average money left for electricity $186.67

Here’s how I got that average

$70.00 PER TENANT ($350.00 TOTAL)

San Francisco Chapter

Yay use all the electricity!

V O N R G U T S C H K A$187.00 covered 1,438.50

KWH in July 2016.

The cost of electricity

fluctuates, currently it is

relatively low.

Tenants were able to

use almost double the average

power consumption in the US

without being charged.

WE ARE OVERUSING AND WE DON’T CARE!

Tenants aren’t being charged for

going over 900 KWH so they don’t

have any knowledge of their use

or any incentive to keep their

consumption under control.

PROBLEMSO NOW THAT WE

UNDERSTAND THE

LET ME SHOWYOU THE

San Francisco Chapter

Solution

San Francisco Chapter

Pay the tenants to keep their usage low

Pay the landlord for the tenants who

keep their usage low

01LETS GIVE THEM SOME INCENTIVE

02

San Francisco Chapter

-If we can decrease usage from the maximum of 1,438.50 watts

to 900 watts roughly $70.00 per house per month will be saved

-The saved money can be divided up between the landlord and

the tenant

-The tenant now has incentive to conserve electricity

- The landlord now has incentive to keep the tenants up to date

on their consumption

HERES WHAT I MEAN

San Francisco Chapter

-One watt costs just under $0.13

- 900 watts or $187.00 per month paid for by

landlord

THE NUMBERS

1,438.50 KWH x $0.13 = $187.00

900.00 KWH x $0.13     = $117.00

Money saved monthly  = $70.00

San Francisco Chapter

REMEMBER...

The average electricity use

per month was not the

maximum of 1,438.50 watts

The average is 1,130 watts

per month

So currently the landlord is

keeping an average of $40

per month per townhome

1,438.5 KWH maximum

1,130    KWH average

308.9KWH  x $0.13 = $40.11

Landlord: Tenants:

$40.00 $25.00

$5.00

SO WHO GETS WHAT?

+

$45.00

WHAT ABOUT PER YEAR?

$45.00 x 12 months=$540.00 14 townhouses $7,560.00

x

$25.00x 12 months=$300.00

5 residents

$60.00

C R E A T I V E N E T W O R K G U I L D

San Francisco Chapter

-The landlord makes a profit of $7,560.00 per year

-Tenants keep profit of $60.00 EACH per month or

$300.00 TOTAL

- Would you cut back on consumption for $300?

IF THE TENANTS COMPLY
