On the evening of Thursday 1st September Shildon Police carried out a test purchase of alcohol in town. The operation involved a young 15 year old boy accompanied by a plain clothed officer visiting 11 premises in the town and attempting to purchase alcohol, but every time he was asked for identification
for proof of age.PC David Littlefair of Shildon Police said “This is a vast improvement on the last time this operation took place last year, when 6 out of the 11 premises visited failed miserably.”The police say further operations are planned in our area to reduce the problems they face with under-age drinking.

Ex Shildon singer Keith Julius - who’s real name is Keith Younghusband - has returned to his roots.Keith and his wife Dot have recently retired from running Eldon Lane Working Men’s Club, where they have resided for the last twelve and a half years. The popular singer started singing when he was fifteen years old and has over 37 years experience in the industry.
Local singer returns to his roots
Local singer Keith with his wife, Dot in Eldon Lane WMC
His career took him all over the country and into Europe. Keith sang 60’s music and he loved singing Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley numbers and had worked with many famous artists over the years, including Mud and Chubby Brown. However, in 1999 Keith decided to retire from the industry and left for pastures new in Dean Valley.Keith was born in Charles
Street in 1946 and the only other place he has ever lived is Eldon Lane.He and Dot have now settled in Dalton Cottages in Shildon and are quite happy to be home again.Keith’s local is now the Institute where he has met up with people he hasn’t seen for years. He plans to play more golf with the lads from Eldon Lane, look after the wife and basically enjoy himself.
Eldon residents noticed that sometime during the last week a public metal seat situated on the junction between Main Road and Green Lane Eldon had been stolen. This seat had been bolted to the ground and must have taken some effort to remove it.During the night of Friday 2nd September tools were stolen from an allotment off Redworth Road. Access to the allotments was gained by cutting a hole in the wire fence.A garage was broken into on Drybourne Park between Monday 29th August and Saturday 3rd September. Property stolen from the garage includes – Karcher hoover, Bosch electric
screwdriver in chrome box, Bosch cordless drill, Black & Decker hammer drill, fishing equipment including 2 x Shimano fishing rods, 2 x purple tennis rackets.Sometime over the last week lead flashing was stolen from the chapel on Robson Street. A Shildon man was arrested on Friday 2nd Sept for being in possession of a beer keg which he was in the process of cutting up. This is the second time in two weeks that arrests have been made for this offence. Please bear in mind that it is illegal for any individual to be in possession of beer kegs. They remain the property of the brewery at all times.
