ARLs WHEN?

• ARLs network was initiated at the Workshop and Expert Consultation on “Strategies for Strengthening Food Testing in ASEAN”

• In Jakarta, Indonesia• On 7 – 11 June 2004• Under the EC- ASEAN Economic

cooperation Programme on Standards, Quality and Conformity Assessment.

ARLs ENDORSEMENT

• WHEN? • The ARLs network scheme was endorsed by the

ASEAN in 2005.• Confirmed on the occasion of the 27th ASEAN

Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality (ACCSQ) in Penang, Malaysia, on 20 – 22 March 2006.

• Through the endorsement of the ASEAN Common Principles for Food Control Systems, which identify the ARLs as one of the key elements participating in the food control system of ASEAN.

ARLs• Six laboratories were chosen on the basis

of their technical capacity. • Chosen laboratory was assigned the

responsibility to undertake specific functions for one particular field of testing as ASEAN Reference Laboratory.

• [“ARL” was later on proposed to be changed to “AFRL” by Brunei delegate to reflect the scope of reference lab is for the testing related only to food.
