Cataloging
Mostly copy cataloging (90%)
Search for authority records in OCLC
Look for best records, avoiding publisher records - especially pre-release records
Import records Fix any errors and
removes unnecessary fields
Original cataloging for genealogical materials Jim’s encoding level for
cataloging is k, so materials he creates records for must be sent to a cataloging specialist.

Hardest item to catalog
Recent population of Korean immigrants. Money given to purchase Korean books. How do you catalog them? How do the Korean patrons locate them in the catalog? Books sent to a cataloging company with a Korean
cataloger and paid 10.00 each book to have a record created.
