Issue 2 – Term 1 – Week 6 Monday, 2nd March 2015 Issue 15 – Term 3 – Week 10 Thursday 26 September 2019 Dear Parents, Carers and Families We have reached the end of a very busy term and I continue to be incredibly proud of the efforts and achievements of our students and staff. Staff have recently broadened their expertise by attending external training and development in Mathematics, Science and Digital Technologies. All staff have engaged in planning days to ensure effective instruction in reading comprehension in classrooms. Thank you to the parents and community members who joined the P and C at the Movie Fundraiser on Saturday night. Our P and C Fundraising Committee work tirelessly to raise money for our school. At the last meeting, P and C donated $3000 for new home readers for our students. We thank them for their continual support of our students. Today, each student in Year 3 and Year 5 will receive their 2019 NAPLAN results. If you have any questions about the results please contact your child’s class teacher. Students in year 5 have the opportunity to apply for selective high school placement for 2021. Applications are submitted online by parents between 8 October 2019 and 11 November 2019. Applications can be made at <https://education.nsw.gov.au/public- schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity- classes/year-7> Unfortunately, late applications cannot be made. All Year 5 students will bring home an Intention to Apply letter that should be returned to school as soon as possible. If you would like to discuss this with your child’s teacher or the school, please do not hesitate to make an appointment. If your child is in Years 2, 3 or 4, don’t miss out on the amazing opportunity to take up our Intensive Swimming Program. School and sporting grants enable us to offer swimming lessons at a fraction of the cost of private swimming lessons. I am sure that you would agree that swimming is a vital life skill especially due to our proximity to the lake and local swimming pools. Our Police Youth Liaison Officer visited our school today to talk to Stage 3 students about crime and cyber safety. As we move into the school holidays, it is a timely reminder to talk to our students about online safety and the seriousness of cyber intimidation and bullying. A reminder to respond to the text message if your child is absent from school. Alternatively, you may telephone the school, email or send a written note explaining your child’s absence. At the beginning of Term 4, Booragul Public School will launch its official Facebook page. This page is set up by the Department of Education and will be used by us to share and celebrate the achievements of our students and staff. This platform will not replace the Skoolbag app which we use to notify parents of coming events and emergencies. Please look out for the Rules of Engagement information that will be issued regarding our Facebook page. We will also ask families to sign new Permission to Publish forms for their child/ren so that student images and work may be published on the page. We hope that our students enjoy their PBL Reward Day tomorrow. We wish all of our students a very safe school holiday break and look forward to seeing them back at school on Monday 14 October 2019. Please note that there is NO Staff Development Day at the commencement of Term 4. Kind Regards Kristy Luff Principal
