HEARST DIGITAL MEDIA

Hearst digital media was founded in 1887 in San Francisco, California. The founder is William Randolph Hearst. Hearst corporation is one of the biggest media corporations in the world and is a major publisher, it publishes magazines like ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, etc. The headquarters are located at midtown Manhattan. It has an enormous 20 000 workers and its revenue in 2014 is 9 billion dollars. The chairman at the time is William Randolph Hearst III. In the next slide there will be a screenshot that is from Wikipedia with official data of the media that the Hearst corporation is publishing. Its major interests include 15 daily and 36 weekly newspapers and more than 300 magazines worldwide. Since it is mass media everyone is a target audience.

BAZAAR (Hearst digital media Publisher)

Harper’s Bazaar is a fashion high class magazine, the official publisher of Bazaar is an another institution named HEARST DIGITAL MEDIA. Hearst digital media also publishes some of the biggest magazines worldwide like, esquire, Elle, Marie Claire, etc. Bazaar has been founded in 1867, the 49th issue published looked like this image on the right. Harper’s is one of the first fashion magazines ever. Since it is mass media everyone is a target audience.

ADVANCE is an another mass media corporation, it is also one of the biggest and has a sub corporation only for publishing named CONDE NAST digital which is actually Vogue’s publisher. ADVANCED was found in 1922 by Samuel Newhouse sr. and Conde Nast in 1909 by Conde Montrose Nast. The headquarters of Advance is in Staten

island, its revenue in 2014 was 8 billion dollars and has 25 000 employees. The headquarters of Conde Nast is in One World Trade center in NYC Manhattan exactly where the Vogue offices are too. everyone is a target audience.

Research on the Magazine, Luxury Real

Estate

Luxury real estate magazine is now existing for 40 years.

John Brian Losh is the founder and publisher. The board of Regents is the governing body of

Luxury real estate, it was found in 1986. Luxury Real Estate has been recognized by

the Webby Awards, has received “Best of the Web” by Forbes Magazine, honored with an ADDY awards for Excellence in Web Design.

The magazine is about luxury real estates, there are images and descriptions of luxury homes.

Target audience in this particular magazine is from 25-70, because it is real estate, and very expensive real estate that only enormously

rich people could afford.

Target Audience Age This particular issue might be bought by everyone

because this topic is interesting to everybody and next to that Jay Z is on the cover and many women might buy it because of him, but men to. Age range would be between 20-50.

Price The price of this magazine is $4.99, that is expensive for a magazine but TIME magazine offers a lot. The customer of time magazine would be rich people or people that can afford it regularly. Averagely man can afford it more than women.

Gender Time magazine is definitely a ‘male’ magazine. The topics and the essence of the magazine is serious and politics/business related, which does not really interests women, so men are TIME’s target audience.

Interests So, the magazine is about Careers, Business, Politics, Success, Religion and other important serious topics. This rarely interests women so mostly men are interested in this magazine.

Job/Student Most of TIME’s customers are working men, there are students too but less compared to employed men. Actually since it is expensive, mostly successful financially stable men.

Age So, since VOGUE is a fashion magazine and they’ve got Beyoncé on this issue’s cover the customers will mostly be women between 25-40. Women love Vogue.

Price Vogue price is not available on the internet, but, in my country vogue is €8, so it is extremely expensive meaning that not everyone can afford it. Only women with high paid jobs, or the ones without high paid jobs would buy it rarely.

Gender Women. Just like TIME magazine is for men, VOGUE is for women. Women love fashion and Vogue is the top of fashion.

Interests Vogue is about fashion mostly, beauty, models, celebrities, money etc. It is a real woman magazine. Men don’t care much about women fashion, beauty etc. So Vogue’s main interest audience are women.

job/student

Most of Vogue’s customers are employed and make money that average people, obviously since vogue is very expensive. There are fashion students too, many of them skip dinner in order to buy vogue.

Age Since it is a cheap gossip magazine the age range is very wide, probably from 18-50. Everybody reads gossip and use these cheap magazines to fulfill their free time.

Price This magazine is not very expensive since it costs $2.99 only. It is a gossip magazine and gossip magazines are not expensive. Since it is affordable the customer can be anyone.

Gender Mostly women, first of all women have more free time than men because on average men work more than women. Also, women love gossip, it is their favorite thing. Drinking coffee and reading gossips with their friends is their ultimate relaxation. But even men buy these magazines when there is a particular topic they are interested in or a beautiful woman on the cover.

Interests This magazine’s topics are gossip about celebrities and scandals. Women are more interested in that.

Job/Student

Anyone. Since it is very affordable, mostly anyone can afford it and people love gossip and magazines, since these gossip magazines are cheaper most of the population buys them.

Summary• Once I have completed this task, I have clear

picture of how production companies operate and

produce range of different magazines in order to

cater for different audience demographics. In order

to reach desired target audience such large

corporations own different media companies and

the use cross media convergence to create regular

followers and customers. Research companies

would be a perfect choice to publish and advertise

property magazine that I wish to produce due to

their large experience in publishing world.
