June 9—June 20 Entering Grades 4-8 (during the 2014-2015 school year)
The ARTWORKS Program, now in its 32nd year, is a multi-disciplinary approach to the arts. The program allows students to study with professional artists and art teachers in the visual media and performing arts for an intensive ten days. ARTWORKS has two sessions, a morning session (8:30-11:30) and an afternoon session (12:30-3:30), each session has two classes. Students may only attend either in the morning or in the afternoon. They may not attend both sessions. Students from surrounding commu-nities may attend with proper immunization and registration paperwork.
Students must have completed at least 3rd grade for the 2013-2014 school year.
Students may not enroll in both morning and afternoon classes.
Materials fee is included in the price of the session. All supplies will be provided.
Students must plan to be in attendance every day and arrive on time or they may not be able to finish their projects.
Students must be picked up on time once their session has ended.
Students on the free/reduced lunch program in SPS for the 2013-2014 school year may attend with the materials fee waived.
All payments are due with the registration form. Class sizes are limited.
SPARC Summer Camp-Sequiota location is available. Students must sign up for Artworks morning (AM) session in order to attend the afternoon (PM) session of SPARC.
Transfers from other SPARC programs are available. Please call the SPARC office at 417-837-5737 for more information.
REFUNDS-You must withdraw from classes by May 30th to receive a refund.
ARTWORKS SCHEDULE Students attend both periods of a session but may not attend both morning and afternoon sessions.
Classes are not for credit.
All classes are for students entering grades 4-8 with the exception of *Stained Glass and Digital Photography
which are reserved for students entering grades 5-8*

ALL ABOUT BATIKS AND TIE DYE
Grades 4-8 Alison Loper/ Learn the ancient technique of fabric
dying with hot wax. Create designs for fabric and use different dying
methods to create batiks and tie dye!
ALL ABOUT DANCE
Grades 4-8 Jessica Wagner/Learn a dance routine and techniques
including ballet, modern, hip hop, and jazz. Grow an understanding
of various dances through video and imitation. No previous dance
experience necessary.
ART BAYOU
Grades 4-8 Stacie Allen/Learn about the French influence in the art
of New Orleans! Create Mardi Gras masks and beads, Blue Dog
sculptures, Fleur de lis sun catchers, crawfish figurines and more!
ATTACK OF THE ABSTRACT
Grades 4-8 Amelia Bennet/ Are you tired of following the rules?
Learn about the abstract artists while exploring sculptural 3-D art,
non-traditional painting techniques, and installation art!
CANDLE MAKING
Grades 4-8 Deanna Gibbs/Create different types of candles and can-
dle holders. Students will carve, paint and melt wax.
CARTOONING
Grades 4-8 Linda Friedley/Enjoy working on and growing your skill
as a cartoonist. We will learn how some of our favorites are drawn
and create new characters with pencil and with clay.
CERAMICS
Grades 4-8 Dennis Lewis/Everyone loves working with clay. Use
all of the basic hand building processes to create projects that will
last a lifetime.
CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING
Grades 4-8 Hing Wah Hatch/Learn to “dance” the brush on paper.
You’ll be able to paint flowers, animals, Chinese symbols and more.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Grades 5-8 Denene Taliaferro/Students will learn basic photography
skills using Adobe Photoshop. Cameras will be provided or you may
bring your own. Advanced students are welcome!
DUCT TAPE CREATIONS
Grades 4-8 Jill Payne/Students will create a variety of pieces using
decorative duct tape! Projects will range from wearable art to sculp-
tural pieces using an assortment of methods.
FOOD ART
Grades 4-8 Heidi Stagner/Experience the creation of yummy food
and learning how to make it look artistically pleasing before being
consumed.
GO GO GRAFFITI
Grades 4-8 Shavonne Downey/Trace the origins of street art and
discover graffiti as a fun form of artistic expression. You will learn
lettering techniques and stencil methods to create pendants, t-shirts,
totes and more!
GROOVY CRAFTS
Grades 4-8 Becky Treadway/ Make art from the 60s and 70s! Pro-
jects include incense burners, macramé, candles, VW bugs, tie dye
and more. We will end the two week session with a Disco party!
HANDS ON SEWING
Grades 4-8 Dana Bridges/Students learn how to sew-in-style and
create beautiful art! Learn how to sew buttons, quilt-block tech-
niques, and simple hand stitches. Create fabric collage projects,
decorative felt patches, an ugly doll, tie snakes, and much more!
IMPROV INSANITY
Grades 4-8 John Mello/ Enhance your acting and creativity through
various theatre games and improv scene building.
ARTWORKS COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
KEEP CALM AND WEAVE ON
Grades 4-8 Susan Goodman/Students will use a variety of recycled
products to create looms for weaving. We will use yarn, dyed fabrics
and other materials from nature to weave fantastic fiber projects.
KID IDOL
Grades 4-8 Kim Cavener/ Learn how to develop your best singing
voice by analyzing videos, vocal and breathing workouts, rehearsing
songs, role playing, and choosing a song to perform!
MAGAZINE MADNESS
Grades 4-8 Shavonne Downey/Make a variety of creations using
magazines. Students will learn basic coiling and weaving methods to
make coasters, jewelry, picture frames, vases, bowls and more!
MOSAICS
Grades 4-8 Christine Schilling/Create a glass sun catcher, picture
frame, treasure box or bird house and name plate using ceramic tile,
stained glass, mirrors and more!
ORIGAMI IN ACTION
Grades 4-8 Hing Wah Hatch/ Make your own toys out of paper, recy-
cle your junk mail, gift wrap, and magazines, into a barking dog, snap-
ping alligator, paper balloons, things that fly, etc.
PUPPETS AND PUPPETRY
Grades 4-8 Janice Queen/Students will create a character, write a
story about it, and bring it to life by building and dressing it as a pup-
pet. Finger puppets, hand puppets and marionettes will be explored.
RUB-A-DUB-DUB, SOAP MAKING FUN
Grades 4-8 Jaimie Keys/Let’s have fun making homemade soap! Stu-
dents will create jello soap, soap clouds, trinket soap, popsicle soap,
bath fizzies and much more.
STAINED GLASS
Grades 5-8 Anissa Barber/Draw using your own designs. Cut, foil,
and solder a glass panel of stained glass. Strength is needed to cut the
glass. Class limit of 12 students
STOMP
Grades 4-8 Clydene Watson/Do you like to make noise? Do you like
to bang on stuff? Do you like to create shows to perform? Then come
join STOMP! The only requirement is that you like to have loud fun.
TAPE IT & MAKE IT-DUCT TAPE ART
Grades 4-8 Jennifer Roller/Students have the opportunity to explore
unique ways to use duct tape to create a variety of duct tape pieces.

the art of bookmaking.
THEATRE SUMMER CAMP
Grades 4-8 Chelsea Vieceli/ Learn the skills of acting, set design, and
performance while perfecting a one-act to perform on the last day!
THIS IS FOR THE BIRDS
Grades 4-8 Stacie Allen/ Create a silly bird marionette puppet, funky
clay bird sculpture, baby bird in a nest, wild bird hats and more!
TROPICAL PARADISE
Grades 4-8 Becky Treadway/Let’s vacation to a tropical island! Pro-
jects include surfboards, seascape paintings, grass skirts, and more!
UNCOMMON CLAY CREATIONS
Grades 4-8 Susan Goodman/ Students will work with different types
of no-fire clay. We will use FIMO, Model magic, home made clay and
recycled paper pulp clay to create jewelry, beads and sculpture.
UPCYCLE
Grades 4-8 Crystal Grant/Recycle things you might throw away by
making them into wearable art. Projects include bracelets, necklaces,
tote bags, belts, t-shirts, and more!
