Data collection from cultural organizations Create list of eligible nonprofit organizations Revenue, expenditures, attendance, etc.
Surveys from at least 800 people Mix of cultural events, both paid and free Mix of venues and geographic locations
What Organizations are Eligible? Traditional nonprofit arts and culture organizations (e.g., museums, theaters, etc.) Municipally-owned and municipally-operated presenting facilities or institutions Unincorporated community arts and culture organizations (e.g., a community theater) Arts programs embedded in non-arts organizations (e.g., an arts program in a church,
library, or senior center) Living collections such as botanical gardens, zoos, and aquariums Historical societies and other historical or historic preservation organizations Private arts councils Municipal arts agencies (e.g., an arts commission or a department of cultural affairs) In short, if it displays the characteristics of a nonprofit arts and culture organization
and has an identifiable budget/attendance and leadership, study partners are encouraged to include them
For-profit businesses and individual artists are EXCLUDED from the methodology for this study
Creating the “Master” List The name of the eligible organization, program, or facility A single primary National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities
(NTEE) code for each The physical address for each organization (street address,
city, state, zip, and county) The name of a single primary contact person for each eligible
organization, program, or facility (one person only—preferably the chief staff executive)
An email address for the primary contact listed above

Email Survey coming this Spring Americans for the Arts (AFTA), in partnership with the
Data Arts (formerly the Cultural Data Project), will send a web-based organizational expenditure survey to every one of the eligible organizations on our list.
The initial survey invitation will be via email in the spring of 2016, followed by several reminders.
COPPeR will follow-up to encourage your organization to participate!

survey to help measure the economic impact of the arts in our community? It’s part of a national study that’s conducted every 5 years by Americans for the Arts, and is happening in over 300 communities across the country. The one-page survey is totally anonymous, and only takes about 3 minutes to complete. Would you be willing to help out by taking the survey?”
Survey Intercepts
Survey Process/Timeline Conduct survey intercepts at 20 local events Bundle surveys from each event with a cover-sheet Return bundled surveys to COPPeR Mail surveys quarterly to Americans for the Arts Americans for the Arts “crunches” all the data Local and national results released in June 2017 Produce a document summarizing local results Publicize and share throughout our community

When venue cannot provide its own volunteers
For each student volunteer that works an event, a $25 donation will be made to the MacLaren School Orchestra Program!
