October Meeting and Other News...
The first TAA meeting of the season will take place Oct 11th at the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center, at 2 p.m. The event includes a tour of the “Virginia Earth: Ce-ramic Art” exhibition and a gallery talk by our own Diane Hottenstein, who is an exhibitor. The exhibit continues through October 12. While there, stop to enjoy the out-door sculpture exhibit, which closes on October 11. Also on view at the center until October 18 is “Reflections: Mark Chatterley & Alexey Terenin.” For more infor-mation and directions, see www.portsmouthartcenter.com. A warm welcome to our new Treasurer, Crystal Ford, re-placing Meghan Killion. Look for Crystal’s contact infor-mation on page 7.
Watch for further details on the TAA Portfolio Show, com-ing in January. Leslie Hildreth will chair the show , with Chrysta Donatelli as co-chair. Portfolios will once again consist of four pieces that are stylistically or thematically related. All four must be accepted to the exhibit, so start planning your Portfolio now!
Virginia Artists 2015 continues through October 11 at the Charles H. Taylor Center in Hampton, featuring many TAA members. Also on view through October 11 is “Slices of Life,” a one man show by Mark Miltz, Virginia Artists 2014 Best in Show Winner. Special thanks to Mark for giving a well-attended demonstration of his portrait drawing tech-nique on September 20 at the center. Mark’s exhibit fea-tures a unique opportunity to pay what you will for one of his unframed drawings. I bought mine last Sunday. Don’t miss this special chance to benefit the center and collect a work by one of TAA’s frequent award winners!

2015 TAA Members’ Show
The TAA Members’ Show opened on September 4 at One11 Foundation. Juror Heather Hakimzadeh re-marked, “I would like to congratulate all the members for their remarkable talent. Our region is truly fortunate to have such a broad spectrum of artists willing to add their voices to our visual culture. Whenever I am asked to judge or jury a show or exhibi-tion, an artist’s engagement with their media always ranks at the top of my mind. An artist’s facility with their media is almost always self-evident. There are many masters who are a part of TAA. I also consider other qualities including composition, context and presenta-tion. In other words, I’m looking for the total package. I am very pleased with my choices, although the overall quality of the exhibition made them quite difficult.” The awards recipients were: Best in Show: K. Dianne Hottenstein. Award of Excellence: Ed Obermeyer. Award of Merit: Mark E. Miltz. Honorable Mention: Nancy K. Hewitt Ishina Feld Peoples’ Choice: Lee Gerry Wertheimer One11 Foundation will host a final open house for the show on October 11 (12 to 5 p.m.) in conjunction with the Colonial Place/Riverview Front Porch Art Walk.
