Letter to Cub LeadersCraft activities are not limited to rainy days! There are hundreds of ways to get creative outdoors, or bring summer indoors and that’s what this activity workbook is all about!

We’ve pulled together three outdoor summer themed Artist Activity Badge activities which are designed to help your Cubs work towards their badges. These activities will include the Artist Activity Badge symbol to help you easily recognise the activities.

We’ve also included additional summer themed projects perfect for keeping your group busy over the summer season!Don’t forget to visit your local Hobbycraft store where our teams are happy to offer advice! You can even book a time in store to run through the craft activities with your group. More information can be found on the back of this pack!

Did you know that nature and the outdoors is the inspiration for many great artists? There are so many outdoor bits and bobs that can be used in your craft activities! This fun ‘You Rock’ card can be used for just about any occasion!

1. Artist Activity Badge project‘You rock’ birthday cardWhat you need:• One rock• Wobbly eyes, various sizes• Poster paint, various colours• Paint brush

• Lead pencil• Black felt tip pen• Newspaper• Super glue• One blank card• Stickers Rock monster instructions:1. Find a round smooth pebble from the garden, beach

or one of your outdoor adventures.2. Make sure your pebble is nice and clean, if it’s a little dirty wash it in warm water with a little soap and pat dry.3. Paint the top side or your pebble in a colour of your choice. Leave to dry for about 20 minutes and then apply

a second coat. Allow to dry. Repeat for bottom4. Decide on how many eyes you would like to give your monster. With the help from an adult stick the eyes to your pebble with super glue. Allow approximately 10 minutes for the eyes to dry in place.5. Roughly draw on your monsters mouth using a lead pencil. Once you are happy with its position and design, go over the pencil markings with a felt tip pen.6. Decorate your blank card with stickers and decorations of your choice.

7. Place the rock monster on the card and give it to a friend or sibling. The rock monster makes a great paper weight!

Safety first Lay down some newspaper to catch any drips before you start painting. Don’t forget to wear your apron!

Design your own fingerprint picnic invitation and send out to all your friends to join!

2. Artist Activity Badge project

Finger print picnic invitationWhat you need:• Blank cards and envelopes. The number will depend

on how many guest you would like to invite• Ink pad, various colours of your choice• Felt tip pens• Pritt stick glue• Lead pencil• Coloured papers• Embellishments such as felt shapes and buttonsInstructions:

1. Decide on how many people you would like to invite to your picnic or party2. Decide on the date and time.3. Decide on a design for your card by laying out

your decorations and a lead pencil.4. Once you are happy with your design start to stick down your embellishments. Remember to leave space for your thumb print bugs and animals.5. To make the finger print animals and bugs you will need to get a bit messy! Practise your finger printing on a separate piece of paper and play around with various designs. 6. Use your fingers for the main body of your animals and bugs. Leave to dry. Remember to use different fingers for different colour inks otherwise the colours will become mixed.7. Draw on the eyes, feet, tails and other body parts.

8. Enter the details of the party such as date, time, what to bring and start handing out your invites.

Get crafty tip! Finger print bugs and animal’s prints can be used for all sorts of crafty projects! Why not create your own wrapping paper or use fabric paints and print on a blank t-shirt!

Find bugs in the garden this summer and record your discoveries in this fun Bug Journal!

3. Artist Activity Badge project

Bug JournalWhat you need:• One journal or note book• Pencil and paper• Felt – various colours

• PVA glue• Buttons• Coloured card• Scissors• Felt tip pens• Any extra bits and pieces you may want to include.

Instructions:1. Start by drawing out your design on a separate

piece of paper. Once you are happy with your

design, and with the help from an adult, cut out

your design using felt and any other pieces you

would like to add.2. Position your felt and bits and pieces on the front

of the journal and stick down using PVA glue.

3. Write’ My bug journal’ on a piece of coloured

card, cut out and stick on your journal.

4. Leave to dry.5. Your journal is ready for recording all your

outdoor finds and discoveries!

Safety first This projects requires the use of scissors. Make sure you get help from an adult!

Lollipop party favours

Give your friends a treat with these sparkly lollipop party favours!

1. Things to make and do

What you need:• Lollipops• Ribbon• Small self adhesive foam shapes• Large foam shapes• Double-sided tape

Instructions:1. Tie a short length of ribbon to each lollipop stick.

2. Attach the small self adhesive foam shapes to the

larger foam shapes.3. Attach the lollipop to the larger foam shape using double sided tape.

Get crafty tip! These lollipop favours are perfect for a birthday party or summer picnic. Why not create them to match the rest of your party or picnic theme?

Crafty creatures

These crafty creatures are so much fun and super easy to make!

2. Things to make and do

What you need:

• Styrofoam balls• PVA glue• Poster paint• Black pipe cleaners• Wobbly eyes• Foam sheets• Cocktail stick (for the bee)

Instructions:

1. Prime the Styrofoam balls with a coat of PVA glue and allow to dry.2. Paint the balls with poster paint and leave to dry.

3. Cut out the wings and spots from the foam sheets and glue into place. Add the wobbly eyes.

4. Paint on a smile with white poster paint.5. Finally, add legs and antennae by pushing cut lengths of the pipe cleaners into the Styrofoam.

If you need to join two balls, use a cocktail

stick and blob of glue.

Create these fun and colourful plan pot pets and plant your favourite summer plant!

3. Things to make and do

What you need:

• Your choice of a plant pot• Acrylic paint, various colours• Black and green large pom poms• Beads• Wobbly eyes• Thin wire• Craft glue

Instructions:

1. Paint the plant pots with acrylic paint2. Decorate the pots with spots or stripes in contrasting colours.3. Glue two wobbly eyes onto the large pom poms4. Attach two small pom poms onto the end of two

pieces of thin wire to create the antenna.5. Thread the other end of the wire through the

pom pom heads and back up to the antenna to secure in place.6. Secure the pom pom to the rim of the pot using craft glue and allow to dry.

Remember that acrylic paint does not wash

out of clothes or tablecloths. Make sure

you were your apron and cover your craft

area with newspaper before starting.
