ArtistiX & You – together we are strong!

ArtistiXDear customer,

Sculpting starts by choosing the right stone. One might start with a stone that is already shaped to the desired end-result. Or one can be inspired by the stone itself and create a surprising sculpture.

Choosing the right tools is the next step. Perhaps you already have the required knowledge and tools? Or are you thinking about expanding your assortiment with sculpting tools?

What can ArtistiX do for you? With ArtistiX you can find a complete assortment of sculpturing tools. From raw-stone to semi finished sculptures, from hammer to polishing paste and from a single product to a fully equipped retail displays!

We are your one-stop-shop for one specific stone and for a full container!

But we offer a lot more, we take our responsibility in our trading, we test our products for dangerous compounds, offer sales training for your staff and information pamphlets for your customers. And we can also support you with the choice of your product range, the presentation of sculpture materials and we can even organize a fully equipped sculpture department in your store.

Responsible Business Sculpture stones are mined directly in nature; many stones are originated in areas of the world where labour conditions are incomparable to those in our culture.

Responsible business does not stop at your own boarder. Therefore we make sure that we only buy from mines where the labourers are paid and treated fair and that there is no child-labour!

Through honest and long lasting business relationships with our suppliers we more often get the opportunity to help improve the labour conditions or to support small entrepreneurs! The semi finished sculptures from Brazil, for example, are all made by local artists!

If you have any questions or requests? Please feel free to contact us, we are there for you!

We do our utmost to offer and deliver you to your sattisfaction. However, if you see anything you would like us to improve: please let us know.

Yours,

the ArtistiX-team

When possible we recycle packing material (like big-bags and packing paper), in our office we only print what is absolutely necessary and we drive a hybrid car

Will you join practicing responsible business?

Tested for Asbestos All our sculpture stones are tested for asbestos on a regular interval. The results from these tests are qualifying whether we do or do not sell a specific type of stone.

Therefore you can rest assured when supplying your customers with our stones. We are more than happy to provide you a copy of the test results!

Next to the asbestos-certificates we can also supply you with Material Safety Datasheets (MSDS).

Barcodes / EAN Do you use a computer system for your cash registry with a barcode system?

We can supply all our products with barcodes.

Increase Sales & Service with our Knowledge

Would you like to increase your turnover in sculpturing tools?

To provide an adequate sales advice about stones and tools you do not have to be an experienced Sculptor! The workshop is focussed on sales knowledge in sculpture- stones, tools,

finishing and how to handle or prevent complaints. After finishing this workshop, you will be able to answer questions from your customers related to:

• choosing Stone and Materials; • basic properties of the various stone types; • what type of tool for what purpose and for what type of

stone; • how to prevent incorrect use of tools.

Information Brochures & Product Datasheets

There is a large choice in sculpturing tools, but what is the right tool for the right stone? What is the use of the tool? And what does one need to start sculpturing?

To answer such questions in an easy and professional way, we have designed three brochures that you can give to your customers:

• sculpturing in soft stone • sculpturing in middle-hard stone • sculpturing in hard stone

The brochures have a special place on the backside where you can put your own company information. In this way your customers will know where to get the right tools and knowledge! Not only the stone type has its specific properties, but each stone itself has different qualities. The hardness of alabaster differs per colour, white is relatively soft and blue relatively hard. Also the structure may vary: orange has a needle structure and tiger-eye is very compact

To inform your customers about these qualities we can supply plasticized product datasheets for your shop.

Shop Decoration & Retail Displays

When you decide to add sculpturing tools to your assortment it is not easy to know exactly what you need. When you decide to expand the product-range it can again be quite a challenge.

We can assist you in the selection of a good assortment. But we can also supply you with a fully equipped retail display!

Decorating your sculpturing department or studio can be both easy and informative by using the many stone-type posters that ArtistiX offers. The posters are made out of strong bizonyl and have a robust metal tube at the top and bottom for mounting

On the poster you will find information of the origin of the stone, its harness and structure, how to finish it and what tools are suitable. The posters can be used inside and outside!

Page 5: ArtistiX catalogue 2013 UK

Know what & where to buy With a background in engineering and mineralogy and together with your and our experience with sculpturing, we have the right knowledge to assess the quality of stone and tools.

We frequently find new stones for your and our assortment, but not every stone finds its way to the consumer. For example, a stone must be suitable for sculpting, free from hazardous substances and the working conditions from mine to your location must be acceptable. Therefore our buyerswe visit all our suppliers to determine that no child labor occurs, and that a fair price is paid for labor.

Gather & Share Knowledge All employees of ArtistiX have experience with our products. On our sales department a team of experienced and novice sculptors are ready to assist you. We share our knowledge both with you and with your customers! Our

website is regularly updated with new information and you can pass your customers along to artistix.nl carefree!

Design & Improve ArtistiX combines your and our experiences. Together we develop new products. From rough sketch to final product.

Field Testing To try out and testnew stones, materials and tools we make good use of a number of professional sculptors at home and abroad. In a brief report describing their experiences and findings. These are crucial to whether or not a product is added to our assortiment.

From Stone to Rock Are you looking for a container with one single color stone? Or perhaps a bag with 500kg stones from virtually every part of the world?

For ArtistiX this is no problem. From stones for jewelry to Alabaster with a diameter of five feet!

From Affordable to Durable A limited budget, or a careful acquaintance with sculpting.

Confidence in authentic craftsmanship where tools are manufactured with passion and mastery.

A wish for absolute top-quality, tough enough for the demanding professional.

Stones Soapstone Asia

This shiny and slight translucent soapstone has been used for more than 3000 years to carve art objects. The stone is mined at great depth, mainly to gain talcum powder.

This soapstone is very easy to rasp and cut. The stone can be layered and therefore chiseling is not recommended. The stone is comfortably soft en suited for beginners and workshops.

Did you know that the oldest art object made of soapstone was found in Finland over 9000 years ago? It is a sculpture of a moose.

Soapstone Brazil

This compact stone type is won by hand in a mountainous area in Brazil. The local population makes practical objects of the stone such as pans and bowls, as well as art objects.

The stone is soft and easy to work on. That is why it is often used for workshops and courses in sculpturing.

Did you know that the world famous statue of Jesus in Rio de Janeiro is made of soapstone?

Marble and limestone

Marble is transformed limestone. With high pressure and high temperature the limestone transforms to marble.

A characteristic of marble is to become harder with time. The "fresher” the marble is, the softer the (comparative) stone is. Partly due to this characteristic the stone is very suitable to be placed outside.

Did you know that oldest known technique for working on marble is with a point chisel? Greek sculptors use this technique already over 2650 years!

Working with soapstone is very easy.

The desired (raw-) shape can be sculpted from the stone using the rasp and coarse sandpaper.

To apply the finer details you can use the knife.

If you are satisfied with the shape then the careful sanding of your piece of art starts. To get a smooth and scratch free result, start with the coarse grit sandpaper. Create a smooth surface. Repeat the sanding, each time with finer grit sized sandpaper. The finest grit sized sandpaper will get you to a polished result. To get an optimal result and to prevent scratches from stone dust, you can use the sandpaper under water.

Finally you can use the color intensifying fluid for the finishing. Make sure that the stone is completely dry. Use a soft dry cloth to apply fluid and be careful not to scratch the surface. Repeat the treatment several times until you get the desired result.

All the animals can also be ordered seperate.

Carbide Rasps

A grit rasp or carbide rasp is characterized by the grains of hardened steel on its surface.

The grains are made of carbide steel, hence the name carbide rasp.

The difference between a conventional tooth-rasp, and a carbide rasp is characterized both in use as a material.

The carbide rasp has no teeth but carbide grains for rasping. The grains come in different coarseness and are made of hardened steel. The tungsten carbide grains of a carbide rasp are soldered to the steel core in a vacuum oven, at very high temperatures.

Due to the hardness of the grains the rasp is suitable for harder stones such as marble and serpentine.

When rasping with a traditional rasp (with teeth) one works in one direction only. Otherwise the teeth wear out fast at the retrieval of the rasp.A carbide rasp works in any direction. Straight-forward, sideways or during the recovery: the carbide-rasp does its job.

Since the carbide rasp of ArtistiX are well covered with carbide grains, the inevitable wear of the grains is of little significance. The disappearance of a grain makes room for the underlying grains! Carbide rasps are therefore much more durable!

Diamond Files

Diamond files are equipped with very fine diamond grit.

The grit is attached to the steel core in a electrostatic bath by means of chemicals. The joining is extremely strong.

Because of this diamond files can be used on very hard stones, even on granite!

A diamond file is very suitable for detailed work in harder stones such as marble, serpentine and hard-stone.

Chisels - middle hard stone

These chisels are made of hardened steel and are suitable for medium hard stones: for example marble and serpentine.

Punch / Point ChiselsPoint Chisels have a punch-shaped point and can be used to quickly remove larger pieces of stone to cut. It is the Chisel to start with when sculpting in Marble.

Tooth ChiselsTooth chisels are used for the removal of irregularities that have been left with the Point Chisels, but also for the affixing of details.

Put a tooth chisel obliquely, so that all the teeth will be used. If you only use the teeth at the sides, then it is likely that they will break.

Flat ChiselsFlat chisels (or sculpting chisels) are used to shape the sculpture. The width of the used chisel should be adjusted to the size of the stone and the level of detail of your object. Use the chisel at an oblique angle, in which the full width of the cutting edge of your chisel is used. Never use only the edges of the cutting edge of your tool. It will break.

Hammers Drilling Hammer'sHammers and mallets are used to apply force on a chisel.

These hammers are available in hardened steel and soft iron. The harder the hammer, the more energy it conveys and the less less vibration it absorbs.

Soft Iron hammers are often better suited to work with carbide tools. By using steel hammers on windia tipped chisels, the risk of damage to the tool is greatly enhanced.

Carving Hammer's, Mallet's & Dummy'sHammers and mallets are used to apply force on a chisel.

The weight and hardness of the material of the Hammer influence the ammount of energy that is transfered when the Hammer hits the chisel.

The heavier the Hammer and the harder the material the more energy is tranfered. One selects the Hammer based on one's strength, the hardness of the stone, the chisel used and the force that is necessary.

Special Hammer's

The combination of a Pick and Bush Hammer has the great advantage that the surface can be worked on with the Pick and by turning the Hammer around you can can crush and even out the surface.

The Pick thus simultaneously fulfills the function of a point chisel and Bush Hammer and increases the ease with which one can switch between different tools.

Sawing, Sanding & Polishing

WaxThere are various means to protect the surface of a finished sculpture, to intensify the color or shine or to polish dull spots.

For porous stones you use stonewax, for homogeneous stones like Marble you can use Marpol and to enhance the color you can use a intensifying agent.

WhetstonesFor long life and optimum use, you must take good care of your equipment. A good practice is to sharpen a chisel after every half hour that you use it. Store your tools in a dry and clean environment and to prevent rust you can lightly grease the tools.

Abrasives and polishing toolsWhen polishing you first sand the deep scratches with coarse sandpaper (grit 80). Good practice is: the coarser the grit, the shorter one rubs.Step by step you remove the scratches and polisht the surface by using ever finer grit (up to grit 1500). The smaller the step from one grit-size to the next, the better the result and the faster one can work.

You can polishing stone with (waterproof) sandpaper or for the harder stones with diamond polishing pads. These are very durable! Polishing Pads come in firm blocks and flexible thin shapes.

The choice of material depends on the desired result, budget, quality and the type of stone worked in.

The Carving Table of ArtistiX is expertly designed. We listened to the advice of experienced sculptors: the legs are positioned in an angle to prevent it from falling over when the stone roles to the side of the large tabletop or when you stand on the reinforced bars And of course, the packing and tutorial have also been thought out so that you or your clients can easily put the Carving Table together!
