Author’s background Kazuo Ishiguro was born in Japan; however, he was nationalized in England. He is one of the most celebrated contemporary authors in the English speaking world. He won an award in 1989 for his novel “The reminds of the day”. During the year 2005, he wrote the novel “Never let me go”, here he exposed ethical issues that we still can see nowadays. How society manages children’s minds In the 1990’s, the English society was in trouble as a result of the appearance of a heinous illness. To resolve this problem, some boarding schools took care of children who have no choices and taught them that they had to donate organs to people that needed them in order to survive. In this especial school children were under exhaustive medical checkups, because they have to be very healthy. They provided programs with especial contents and training. Children should donate three times during their lives, however some of them can’t resist medical procedures and they die after their first donation. As in every good story, love has to be present. In this case you can see a love triangle. Kathy, Tommy and Ruth are real friends, connected by the same future, be donors. Kathy is in love with Tommy, but she can’t say it to him, Ruth is in love with him too, and Tommy doesn’t know what he feels. Kathy is the one of them who has more years to survive, because she takes care of children, as a nurse; nevertheless, she must accomplish the same objective in this institution. The setting The story takes place in an alternative world, very similar to our reality, during the 20 th century. The society has to assure the well- being of people, so every decision that they take should be based on benefits for the community. The book’s author focused his attention on social and economic problems, where ethical and society’s survival issues were dealing. “Never let me go” is a science fiction book; nontheless, specialists in this area disagree, because they think that every society in the world is always dealing with problems that put them in confrontation. People have to decide all the time between following the rules and live according to what society can offer them, or following their instinct and find their own ways to survive and be happy. We think that this kind of book can blow your mind, because it will place you in a new world.
