Annette Messager- Francia, 1943
“Annette Messager revela el horror cotidiano”
www.elpais.com

Jennifer Allora- Filadelfia, 1974Guillermo Calzadilla (La Habana, 1971)
“Collaborating since 1995, Allora & Calzadilla approach visual art as a set of experiments that test whether ideas such as authorship, nationality, borders, and democracy adequately describe today’s increasingly global and consumerist society. Their hybridized works—often a unique mix of sculpture, photography, performance, sound and video—explore the physical and conceptual act of mark making and its survival through traces. By drawing historical, cultural, and political metaphors out of basic materials, Allora & Calzadilla’s works explore the complex associations between an object and its meaning.”

• All artists pursue their calling at a price, but for women artistic creativity sometimes comes with intense sacrifice, guilt, ambivalence, and personal challenge. A compelling documentary film on women artists [“Who does she think she is?”] explores the barriers to the creative process and how art ultimately transforms women’s lives and those around them.
Bell Hooks, Art on My Mind:
We worry about not giving enough of our care and personhood to loved ones. Many of us still labor with the underlying fear that if we care too much about art, we will be companionless, alone. And some of us who have companions or children make sure that when they come home there are no visible signs of our artistic selves present.
