Plastering

ithin all the services Art Deco Plastering provides, our main line is plastering diverse textures. We have the availability to work on existing buildings as well as new buildings. In addition we apply plastering over foam moldings as prints suggest or our clients demand.
To enforce plastering standards, we supervise every single progress of our team members, ensuring we all meet the plastering thickness codes, as well as the components utilized to mix the mud.
Preparing for
he process we follow in a typical project initiates with the assembly of a scaffold as per OSHA standards. Once the scaffold has been built and rigorously inspected, we proceed with the wire lath installation, and other additional plastic components.

e continue preparing the areas by cleaning off the dust on walls that will receive the first coat and covering all surfaces that might get damage in the process such as plants, windows, roof, tile roof, doors, floors, pipes, etcetera. Our staff has been properly trained to daily inspect the work site assuring the implementation of an organized and clean job site.
efore any plastering is applied the wire lath is stapled and nailed to cover all wood framed areas and we install plastic components such as corner beads and plaster stops which serve as guidelines to the plasters. Once the wire lath installation is completed it is submitted to the local city for inspection.

he following step is the cement applications, divided in four different coats: scratch coat, skim coat, brown coat and a finish coat. The scratch coat is applied evenly covering block, concrete and wire lath surfaces. The next two coats are applied to make the surfaces even and prepare it for the required final coat.
On the final coat we focus our direction on the exterior finish we will apply. The finish goes according to prints specifications, however if our client desires a customized finish, we arrange meetings to develop stucco samples and implement their visions. During the life of the project we strive to consistently and effectively communicate with our staff to ensure each phase is being completed according to schedule thereby avoiding costly errors.

Finishes
8
Art Deco Plastering uses the following names for exterior plastering finishes:
3. Heavy texture finish is a thicker version of the medium texture finish. The mud used for this
application has to be even thicker or mixed with lower water content. It is frequently applied on homes with a Mediterranean design.
1. Light texture finish is a contemporary texture developed and applied in the last two decades, it is commonly used in homes or commercial building due to its affordability. It consists of small particles of mud and high water content. It is applied with a soft and constant motion following a pattern with or with out direction as our clients request.
2. Medium texture finish has a similar application to the light texture finish with the exception that the mud must be thicker or with lower water content.

4. Old world finishes is a simulation of textures used to plaster the first homes built in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami Dade counties. As many layers of paint were applied on the walls, it smoothed out the original texture of these old homes and through out the years it decreased the ridges creating a smooth, bumpy kind of texture.
This texture is known as Old World Finish, Palm Beach Bumpy Finish or Sponged Float Finish.
To simulate this finish with our techniques, the application of the last coat has to be smoothed out with a sponge before the texture gets hard in order to achieve an old plastering finish similar to homes from centuries ago.
5. Float smooth finish is the plastering finish with the smoothest finish. This finish is achieved by rubbing the mud
with a float in a circular motion while the mud on the wall is still wet and until a smooth surface is obtained. This finish is the most elegant and refined finish due to its smoothness and perfection.

6. Scored lines over smooth finish is a plastering technique used to enhance inner ornaments as well as partial exterior
elevations, providing elegance and sophisticated decor. This technique is accomplished, by cutting the stucco on the wall
while it is still wet with a scoring tool, creating gaps and divisions in horizontal, vertical or diagonal areas.
7. Simulated Stucco siding (Key West Style) is derived from a smooth finish, however it overlaps stucco bands simulating the sidings in Key West Style Homes. Simulated stucco plastering has the advantage of being more resistant than regular sidings, holding up to hurricanes without chipping or breaking at a more affordable price.

8. Simmulated brick is a perfect unique choice for commercial or residential projects with time and budget restrains. We help our clients save as much as possible and we reflect it in the cost of labor, materials and completion time. Simulated brick is great for new or renovation projects since it does not require any additional
preparation except that the surface must be clean and debris free. The variety of choices adds great advantage since it
is not delivered from a factory; instead we customize it to meet our client’s needs. We can minimize or enlarge the brick size, as well as the score line that divides the brick, or we can project it to surround windows, arches, doors or any other specific area on the building’s elevation. The variety of colors and the way they are integrated in the mud gives our brick a
unique style, making your home a magnificent unique masterpiece with your own design.
9. Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS) is a type of building product that provides exterior walls with a finished surface, insulation and waterproofing in an integrated composite system. EIFS is also known as “synthetic stucco” and “Dryvit” - a popular EIFS brand. EIFS can be used on a wide range of buildings, including homes, apartments, condo’s, high-rise buildings, offices, malls, shopping centers, hotels, motels, clinics, government buildings, and so on. It can also be used as facades and soffits on shopping centers, and for decorative purposes (to look like stone, or to create signage or artwork).
EIFS can be used on new buildings and also can be installed on existing walls, called “retrofitting”, to upgrade the appearance and provide insulation, without affecting the activities indoors during the renovation.
EIFS has a number of features that contribute to its popularity, including a modern seamless look, the ability to mimic other materials, reasonable cost, and high-energy efficiency.

Foam Application
12
Art Deco Plastering has dedicated time and effort on learning the necessary skills to offer foam decorations on any commercial or residential construction project. We follow factory recommendations on the installation of basecoat and fiberglass mesh before the final coat. The skilled team members of IP work in team groups to deliver the following finishes on foam surfaces:
Smooth float finish is a finish applied with a screed mold customized to follow the exact foam molding shapes.

Stone finish is applied to simulate coral stone. The applications consist on penetrating the wet cement wall by throwing salt rocks on the entire molding. The salt rocks that remain on the area are removed and if additional rough areas are needed on the moldings, a rough brush is used to create a personalized touch of coral simulation. Opting the use of stone simulation through plastering gives our clients the look of the stone they desire without all the cost and time of real stone installation.
Note: All finishes on any surfaces including foam, block or wire lath can be customized to meet our clients demand.

hey occur in nature as stone formations; the Romans marched under them to celebrate victory. Now you can have arches in courtyards, main entrances, windows, doors, walk ways, above garages. We decorate and customize the arches with foam moldings, stucco bands or keystones to enhance the original theme architects designed.
With foam trim an arch can be beautifully decorated. Foam profiles and textures give the arch the picturesque appeal our clients prefer.

Foam Trim

t is essential to consider some of the advantages of using molding to enrich, enhance, enlarge, and define space. Molding is one of the ways to set your house apart and increase perceived value. Moldings have been applied to traditional and contemporary homes with excellent results. The look of the molding reinforces charm of the home and invariably elicits comments like “They just don’t build homes like that any more.”
Its use can be to enclosed doors, windows arches or to divide floors, different tone paints and exterior finishes.
