Noisy World

In search of Silence amidst

chaos

Hans Jean Arp a German – French

sculptor, painter and poet says,

“Soon Silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back on

silence. Day after day he invents machines and devices that increase

noise and distract humanity from the

essence of life, contemplation, meditation.”

Practice Silence Most of us know how to say nothing;

few of us know when to let our silence speak

louder. C. Krosky

The Practice Of Silence has to do with every part of our system. There is a silence of the

body, silence of the mind and silence of the heart. Until all

these are tranquilized, we

can not know what true silence is.

Silence is much more than the absence of sound; it is the autonomous pre-existing entity in which God creates. It is

the source to which all words return to attain true meaning.

How to Practice Silence?• Set aside 10 to 30 minutes for silence and meditation. Make

an intention to benefit spiritually from observing silence.• Remove distractions. Turn off your radio, television, computer

and cell phone. Create a suitable atmosphere. • Assume a comfortable position and close your eyes. Focus on

your breath and return to your breathing if your mind fills with chatter.

• During Inhalation - Imagine your self filling with love and light. Allow your thoughts, feelings and subtle movements to be transformed into pure, positive energy and purposeful silence.

• During Exhalation - Release your will. Visualize any harmful attitudes, beliefs or self-destructive patterns exiting your body.

• Stay silent, relaxed and receptive as long as you can. • Record random insights, divinely guided messages or

inspired ideas in your journal.

Messages of Silence -Listening Ear• Our ability to be quiet may confirm that we are intensely

interested in what is being said.

• It can also show that we have great integrity and will

not be brought into conversations that could be

harmful.

• Silence is often misunderstood for guilt.

Messages of Silence –

Unspoken Words• Silence allows us to

keep a secret, to serve as a peacemaker, and

to learn the deeper meaning about what is

being said.

• Silence is not the same as not talking. Rather, it

is a deep presence within a person, a

presence that shapes not only every word but also every movement

and every gesture.

• Some say that the ignorant are silent

Power of Silence• Math. 26 : 63 –

“But Jesus kept silent”

• Mark 15 : 5 “But Jesus still

answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled.”

• Silent when you are on trail ... when

accused? Not easy. But ...

• Silence convicted Pilate

• Pilate knew the Truth – wanted to Free Jesus

• Silence provoked the

Jewish leaders

Heaven’s Response to Silence

• Silence empowered Jesus to accomplish his

mission.

• Silence enabled Jesus to go through the

humiliating experience ... to stay focused on eternity.

• When we remain silent

heaven responds with loud action – Jesus

rose again.

• Heaven notices silent tears ... Prayers ... Hopes ... Dreams

The Small Rag picker

* More than a decade ago ... • I was in a bakery ... Friday

afternoon• As the baker served others, I

noticed a small boy – a rag picker carrying a huge sack

• Seeing the bakery he came in and was looking for something

• He found the water jug placed in a corner for people like him

• As he quenched his thirst he looked at people eating delicious stuffs

• I began a conversation with him ... • Asked him if he wanted something

to eat. He ate his full. • Went away with a smile ... Fulfilled

dreams

• If a fallen man can notice the desires/dreams of

others and act, Don’t you think God is interested in

your Hopes and dreams???

History records that Mahatma chose not to be

silent. He walked the length and breath of India and told the truth to the

masses.

The truth he told the millions was, you don’t

have to be ruled by foreigners. You can rule

yourself.

Martin Luther Junior King spoke against

segregation and refused to be considered lower than other humans.

Four decades later, Americans proved that

people will not be judged by colour but by

their character.

The religious freedom we enjoy today is coz Martin Luther set out to

correct the errors. His philosophy of

SCRIPTURE ONLY is adopted by many Churches as their

fundamental belief. What if these men

were silent??

SPEAK when abused.

SPEAK against abuse.

Tolerating abuse will lead to

more abuse.

Know your rights. Stand up for your

rights.

“Oppression can only survive through

silence.” Carman de

Monteflores

Martin Luther King Jr.

• An atheist was on his deathbed. • His daughters Pastor suggested to him that he read the Bible n Pray at least now. • Knowing this won’t make a difference he tried both.

• The Bible spoke to him. He spend much time in prayer. • His room was filled with peace, his face radiant. • The pastor asked him, What do you pray? You’ve never been to the Church? • He shyly replied, I don’t know what to say n ask. I just stay in His presence ... spend time with Jesus.
