LINESCurved/straight, dotted line, wavy, curly, zigzag, thin/thick/faint, bold, broken, parallel, border, silhouette, cross hatching line, diagonal/vertical/horizontal, a free-hand line.
SHAPES
Triangle, circle, rectangle, square, spiral, swirl, quadrilaterals, oval, curvy, concentric circles, long/short, narrow/wide, round, rounded, in a pattern/at random, pattern in shapes and colours, motif, 5/6 points star, symbols, symmetrical, stripes, spots, edge, outline.

TECHNIQUES
3-D DECOUPAGE
3-D picture
Base/Top/middle/subsequent layer
Cut intricate detail with sharp scissors.
Line up the layers exactly.

My piece of paper is full enough now.
Strips going across
The edge is floppy.
Tear up the paper.
COLOURING
Colour it in stripes/in blue.
Fill most of the spaces/the paper.
Keep inside the edges.
Make that shade slightly lighter.
Orangey yellow
You can shade it in blue.
CUTTING OUT
Cut it all around.
Cut it out neatly/roughly.
Cut off the excess string.
Cut out the edges.
Keep on the line while cutting out.
Put the scissors through to make a hole.
DRAWING
Count squares across/down.
Draw from memory.
Go around the edge.
Make curve lines.
Observational drawing
Rub it out.
Two lines going across/down
Start to draw in detail.
Start very softly and get harder.
You need to have got control over your pencil.
GLUING
Can you put the lids on the glue?
It sticks on well.
It’s not going to come off.
Once you have glued... Rub your fingers together to get the glue off.
Stick it/them on like that.
MARBLING
Drop small amounts of different coloured paint.
Hold the paper and lower it down.
Put the paper down and lift the paper up.
The paint spreads all over.
The paper soaks up the paint.

MODELLING
A ball/lump of clay
Clay pot
Coil
Join the two ends together.
Make it thinner.
Press down very smoothly.
Press on hard.
Roll out 3 coils.
Squeeze the lump of clay into a…
Wavy/straight edge
You can smooth it with an old CD.
ORIGAMI
Face the paper down.
Flatten it down.
Fold (gently) in half.
Fold it over.
Lift the paper up.
Once the corners have met, you push out.
Open it up.
Put the paper down.

PAINTING
A stroke
Apply two coats of paint.
Blend colours
Blending into light blue
Brush in the same direction.
Can I have yellow, please?
Canvas, easel
Choose one of the colours and do the background.
Clean your brush before you go to another colour.
Cover it completely.
Don’t put your hand on wet paint.
Don’t go over the edges.
Figurative/Abstract
From dark gradually as light as you can.
Hold the brush like a pencil.
How do we make pink? /What colours make orange?
I want you to avoid having too much water in your brush.
It’ll go pale too quickly.
Make sure you keep your brush clean.
Mix it round.
Make the blue paler.
Nice, bright, strong colours
Paint doesn’t go on Sellotape.
Paint the whole thing.
Recreate a picture.
Start with the lightest colours.

Stir the mixture with a paintbrush.

There are some lighter parts and some darker parts.

PAPIER MÂCHÉ
Leave to dry.
Mix it in the proportions of …
Mould
Paste the strips of newspaper.
Remove excess water from the prepared pulp.
Ready-mixed pulp
Tear the paper into narrow strips.
PLANNING
An outline very roughly drawn, a rough outline, not with a really heavy hand.
Contrasting colours and textures
I have a choice of colours.
Is there anything else you can see?
It’s an interpretation, there’s no right or wrong.
Make it as big as your piece of paper.
