Transcript of Art In The Streets

We checked out the new exhibit, Art In the Streets, at the Geffen Contemporary at Moca during the public opening day. Despite the crowded spaces and fucked up camera at our disposal, we managed to get a few good pictures.

There was an immense amount of work produced by various street and graffiti artists from different time periods and locations. This exhibition focused on the evolving styles of graffiti and street art from Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, and São Paulo.

Wherever you turned there was a composition within a composition. The audience itself seemed to be part of the artwork. Young people, old people, graffiti artists, fine artists, upper class, lower class...Everyone was admiring each other’s world in a personal yet public display.

This exhibit allows people to appreciate the street art movment, but it was as if we were experiencing it the way one would admire a caged lion at a zoo.
