2020 Vision
March 2020 is a significant month. It marks the 50th Anniversary of Britain’s
first successful rocket launch, the original Black Arrow. It also marks the
beginning of Black Arrow’s “return to flight” as Black Arrow Space
Technologies starts up and begins to turn vision in to reality.
We are delighted to announce that we have negotiated an agreement with
an investor which will fully fund our development activities—for more see
Page 3 of this Newsletter.
We have not only been busy securing funding over the last few months. We
have also exhibited at more trade exhibitions, introducing ourselves to the
World space industry at the New Space Show in Monaco and Space Tech
Euro in Bremen, and had a huge amount of positive interest from potential
suppliers, customers—both for launch services and Astrotanks—and met
many people who would like to work for us to help make our vision become
reality.
We expect things to start happening quite quickly from now on. We will
need to secure our premises so that we have a home to complete our
detailed designs and start construction of the launch vehicle. We will start
recruiting our design, production and admin teams, designing and
converting ships, planning test flights—the list is endless!
We will publish more updates in this newsletter as we have more news. Our
website will be updated regularly. Be sure to follow us on Social Media, and
encourage your friends and contacts to do the same. Our Facebook, Twitter,
LinkedIn and Instagram pages are active, and we will publish updates there
too. We also have a YouTube channel, and we will publish more content
there as it becomes available.
2020 is going to be a very exciting year—and the 2020s are going to be a
very exciting decade for Black Arrow Space Technologies and Astrotanks.
We hope you are with us on the journey!
Edition 2, February 2020
November 2019 was enjoyable for me as I was in Bremen attending
the Euro Space Tech Expo with Black Arrow. Throughout 3-days of
the Expo, hundreds of visitors and exhibitors visited the Black
Arrow stand for various reasons, some looking for business
opportunities while others looking for technological innovation.
The Expo was exciting for me as it was a good opportunity for
understanding the latest development in the space industries,
networking and understanding the supply chain involved. Paul
Williams, the Director of Black Arrow, and I took this opportunity
to promote the use of green liquid propellant in satellites. The
project is a collaboration between University of Huddersfield and
Black Arrow. Green propellant is an alternative that the space
industries heavily sought after due to increased environmental
concern, but more innovative approach, investment and
development from commercial perspective is required to make it
competitive. As an academician, I appreciate the collaboration
with Black Arrow as their experience in system development,
technological awareness and business network helps to shape our
research products to be market-orientated, easily integrated with
platform systems. If you looking for someone
who can inspire you, collaborate to launch
space technologies or extending business
opportunities in space industry, why not
discuss with Black Arrow?
Our Autumn Tour continued with visits to exhibitions in Monaco and Bremen
New Space Show, Monaco 2019
Space Tech Expo, Bremen, 2019
The New Space Show was very different from DSEI and the UK Space Conference.
It was a lot smaller, with many pre-arranged business to business meetings,
giving great opportunities to network with a wide range of people from the space
industry from Europe, North America beyond. With the less intense atmosphere
there were many more opportunities to have extended conversations with many
people—potential customers, suppliers and investors alike.
I met with a number of people who have access to investment funds and are
keen to invest in space ventures of various kinds. Contacts have been followed
up, and discussions are continuing. There were a wide range of potential
suppliers present — and one of our tasks is to develop a supply chain network to
provide equipment and services to Black Arrow to enable us to design and build
our launch vehicle and support services. With suppliers of equipment including
wiring, flight planning software, antennae, flight
tracking equipment, mission control rooms,
connectors and a whole lot more, there is plenty of
material for our design team to work with. I also met
with satellite manufacturers and operators who were
very interested in our launch service proposals.
A very constructive couple of days in Monaco!

Exhibitions Update
We had a busy year in 2019
attending exhibitions to
introduce ourselves to the
world’s space industry.
We intend to build on those
initial introductions by
attending more exhibitions to
help build our customer base,
our supplier network, our
supporters and backers and our
potential employees.
The list of exhibitions we will be
attending is still to be finalised,
but is likely to include:
• Space Tech Expo USA, Long
Beach, California—May
2020
• Farnborough International
Air Show, Farnborough,
July 2020
• International Astronautical
Convention, Dubai,
October 2020
• Space Tech Expo Europe,
Bremen, November 2020
We may attend other
exhibitions and events over the
course of the year, subject to
the right opportunities being
available and resource
availability.
We will, of course, publish
details of the events we are
attending through our
Newsletters and Social Media
channels. Keep an eye out for
us!
Fundraising Update
Since the last newsletter, we have been incredibly fortunate to have
negotiated an agreement with a major investor to fully fund the
company development activities, up to the completion of the test
launch phase of the project, which is anticipated to take between two
and three years
We have a number of targets to aim for and they are not within easy
reach. We have chosen the path of innovation and the application of
cutting-edge materials, components and critical infrastructure; all of
which have been running to some degree for a while, and we expect
the Plan to be less stressful, as a result. However, we do have crucial
developments to make in-house and these will lead the team's
activities for the first 12-18 months.
Without dependence on the UK's selected spaceport for vertical
launch, we will have the freedom to develop at our own pace, to meet
our own targets. It is hoped that our readiness for flight testing will
coincide with the availability of UK Secondary Legislation to the Space
Industry Act, and industry Regulation will allow orbital flight from the
UK, from whatever site is chosen.
The next three months will be pivotal. The next newsletter will update
you fully on the status of this process.

It is too early to say exactly when we will begin recruiting—but we hope it will be
soon!
We are keen to recruit a wide range of designers, engineers and researchers to help us
to create and operate the Black Arrow launch vehicle and the Astrotanks tanks and
pressure vessels. We expect potential future colleagues to come from a range of
disciplines, from space and aerospace to automotive design—and beyond. And we
expect colleagues will have a range of experience, from recent graduates to
experienced industry professionals.
We already have a number of CVs / Resumes on file from people who have expressed
an interest in joining us—rest assured we will be contacting you as soon as possible if
you have submitted your details. If you would like to submit your CV for
consideration, please do so—email [email protected] with a covering
letter explaining your interest in Black Arrow and what you feel you can contribute to
the project.
Job opportunities will also be publicised through this newsletter, through our websites
and via our Social Media channels—please feel free to Like, Share and Tag job
opportunities if you feel they will be of interest to your friends and contacts.

Finance Director
I was first introduced to Black Arrow in a coffee shop in
Marlborough. The unassuming character of Paul Williams
explained that he had a financial model that needed a “little
work” for his “modest project.” Both of his assertions were an
understatement to say the least!
Two years later, I have become fully immersed in the “substantial
work” involved in modelling the complex and multiple project
streams of this “significant project” and am enthusiastically
looking forward to the next chapter of Black Arrow. Whether it is
the tenacity of the founder team members, the technical
knowledge of the development team or the reception that Black
Arrow has from all external participants in the industry that I
have had the good fortune to meet that has driven my involvement – it is the shear impact of the
project on the UK Space industry and the UK as a whole that is the most significant in my mind.
The team is remarkably impressive but so is the simplicity of the delivery of the service. Bringing
together technology and IP developed in other industries and reengineering them for Black Arrow
gives the efficiency and certainty that is required for a project of this type and size. We are not
reinventing the wheel – simply making it smoother and rounder – and then sticking a rocket on the
back of it!
It is so satisfying to be part of a project that will make a difference and the next phase of Black Arrow
promises to be the most interesting part of my career so far.
