New Aslockton-on-Line Website
Early in the New Year, we will be launching a new Aslockton-on-
Line website. The launch will be widely advertised throughout the
village and we hope residents will take the opportunity to use the new
site and to let us know what they think about it. Details of how to do
this will be given once the website is published.
I would also like to take this opportunity to express our grateful
thanks to Gregg Redford for his expertise and support in hosting
Aslockton-On-Line Mark 1 since its foundation.

LATEST 56 BUS UPDATE CLIVE GREYSON HAS ADVISED US OF THE
FOLLOWING PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE

THE PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE 56b TIMETABLE
ARE AS FOLLOWS:
WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY ONLY

STAUNTON, COTHAM, HAWTON AND NEWARK.
THESE CHANGES WILL POSSIBLY BE EFFECTIVE IN

planning of the timetable and one of the contract conditions is
that concessionary travel will be allowed on services 56a and
56b for journeys that commence prior to the concessionary

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DECIDE!!!WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DECIDE!!!WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DECIDE!!!WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DECIDE!!!
Having finally installed the new village signs at the entrances to
the village from Abbey, Mill and Cliff Hill Lane we are now in
a better position to visualise possible improvements, if any, to
the actual gateways.
But we want to get it right, so we need your feedback. The
Parish Council’s initial thoughts on various options were:
• Leave them as they are
• Take them out
• Replace the plants with membrane/concrete and stone
Perhaps you can think of something better? It has to be low
maintenance. One idea was for planters on the front of the
gateways but on a practical note, these would need daily water-
ing in a hot summer.
Please also bear in mind the cost, remember this is your
money!
Please do pass on your comments to any Parish Councillor,
our contact details are on the Notice Board, or stop us in the
street!

A plea from a “litter picker” to dog owners.
It’s good of you to pick up your dogs poo and put it into
nice little bags but it is not so good when you then throw
the bags into the hedge bottom!!
This is happening on a regular basis along Mill Lane so
whoever you are PLEASE take the bags
home or put them in the bins that have
been provided for that specific purpose.
NB. If every one took their litter home
there would be no need for litter pickers!!
First Contact Signposting Scheme
If you’re 60 or over First Contact gets you help from lots of
organisations when you complete one simple checklist.. The scheme
is a partnership of key agencies and organisations including the
police, fire service, NHS, Borough council and the Voluntary Sector.
They can help with such things as preventing falls, home security,
energy saving, housing advice, claiming benefits, community
transport schemes and many more.

"Village Ventures at the TCC"
The 2012/2013 Village Ventures programme got off to an excellent start with The Number 26 Bus to Paraguay from classical guitarist Richard Durrant. With his warm personality and easy rapport, Richard shared tales and music from his own musical journey and the inspiration he found in Paraguan composer Augustin Barrios. As well as music by Barrios, we enjoyed music by Django Reinhardt, Los Paraguayos and Claude Debussy - a magical evening of sublime playing.
As I write this we are just about to host the New Perspectives Theatre Company's new production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. It got an excellent review in The Stage
"...what we have here is a thoroughly engaging production that packs small but plays big. A one man show of the highest quality "
I hope it lives up to its billing!
But that review really sums up all the shows we get through the Village Ventures scheme - shows of the highest quality at reasonable prices due to the subsidy we receive from both Rushcliffe BC and Nottinghamshire County Council. Even if you are not a regular show goer, attend one of our shows and see for yourself - professional performances at reasonable prices right on your doorstep!

ASLOCKTON PARISH COUNCIL Clerk: Carola Jones, Whitethorn, Back Lane, Cropwell Butler, Nottingham NG12 3AD
Dog fouling During September and October there seemed to be an increased oc-currence of dog fouling along the footpaths within the parish. This may have been due to difficulties in collecting the waste due to poor lighting, before the lights changed. We would ask dog walkers to keep up the good work they do in col-lecting dog waste, and to use the red bins provided for the purpose. It may be useful to carry a torch as well? If residents notice instances of dog fouling this can be reported di-rectly to the Borough Council on 0115 9819911, or on their website www.rushcliffe.gov.uk where there is an easy form to fill in. They will always come out and deal with the problem, and may suggest actions we can take to ensure this problem does not escalate. Many thanks to everyone for their continued vigilance in this matter.
Street Lighting As residents will be aware some street lights in the village are switched off between midnight and 5am. When it was requested that lights on Meadow Close be reinstated the County Council kindly obliged. If residents are aware of issues created by the lack of light during these times, please let the parish council know. Contact: Carola Jones on 0115 0335814 or email [email protected].
There is an Open Session at the start of each Parish Council meeting
for members of the public to ask questions or raise items of interest.
The Agendas and Minutes are available on the website at
www.aslockton..org and the Parish Notice Board. If you would like
more information, please contact the Clerk, Carola Jones at
[email protected], tel. 0115 9335814

Looking to 2013, on Saturday 16 February we welcome back Fascinating Rhythm, four accomplished musicians who perform the Great American Songbook, as well as jazz in its most accessible form. Their repertoire features carefully crafted arrangements of classics by Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Dave Brubeck and many others, as well as a few striking originals. They will be performing "cabaret style" and the bar will be open throughout - what is there not to like?! Last year's performance was a sell-out so book early to ensure a seat.
Tickets: £8, £5 (under 19), available from Diane Sharpe (850775) and Sue Rowe (850600) or [email protected]
On Sunday 17 March we have a special performance for children, suitable for 5 years upwards. Thingumajig Theatre present Hullaba Lulu, a truly magical show for children and families, featuring exquisite puppetry, live music and song, the show is both hilarious and poignant... and utterly enchanting. We are very rarely able to book children's shows because there are so few so please take this opportunity for a super family night out.
Tickets: £8, £5 (under 19), £20 family ticket (2 adults plus a maximum of 3 children) available from Diane Sharpe (850775) and Sue Rowe (850600) or [email protected] Susan Rowe Social Events, Aslockton Community Association

PARISH COUNCIL – NEWS
AND UPDATES Millennium Fund
You will have seen the new village signs on
Abbey Lane, Mill Lane and Cliff Hill Lane and
hopefully you think that they enhance the
appearance of the entrances to the village. The
future of the wooden gateways is to be
discussed at the next Parish meeting and there
is a separate page detailing the options which
will enable parishioners to give their feedback.
The Old Greyhound
The Agents dealing with the sale have been contacted and advise us that
whilst there have been legal issues they expect the sale to be completed by
the end of the year. They and the intended purchaser understand the
villagers’ concern over the future of the site and we have been told that we
will be consulted over any proposed plans.
Speedwatch
Some of you may have seen us with the speed gun checking the speed of
motorists travelling through the village. Speeding offenders receive a
warning letter from the Police and we hope that in future they observe the
speed limits in Aslockton and surrounding villages. The difference between
travelling a mile at 30mph and 50mph is only 48 seconds in time, but it
could mean a big difference in your insurance premium if you have an
accident, or worse still, seriously harm someone.
CAN YOU HELP!! We have the speed gun for a period of two or three weeks
about every ten weeks. Would you have an hour or so to spare to help with
the speed check? You'll even get to use the speed gun (training will be
given) although only three locations have been assessed and approved by
the Police, one each on Cliff Hill , Mill, and Abbey Lane.
If you are interested please ring Kath Auckland 850052 or Mansfield Barker
851949 for more information. 7

Local Improvement Scheme
The Thomas Cranmer Information Board and Signage scheme has been
agreed by Notts. County Council. Gregg Redford has done a marvellous job
in producing the layout and content of the board. We have now agreed this
and Malcolm Lane & Sons are to produce a draft mock up of the board for
our final approval. The board and finger post will then be installed a.s.a.p
on the grass verge between the church and Saucer Farm, subject to
formalities to be completed by Notts. C. C.
Bus service to Newark
Details of the proposed alterations to the service are on a separate page.
Abbey Lane resurfacing -after the houses, to the T junction
NCC have secured funding for a higher standard treatment as a replacement
for the micro-asphalting which they were previously unable to deliver and
hopefully they will be undertaking these works 14 - 21 January 2013. This is
subject to confirmation!!
Finally all the Councillors and the Clerk wish you all a merry Christmas and
a happy and prosperous New Year.
