We can celebrate several events in one evening by drawing upon the cultures within our schools and communities. Chanukah, which originates from the old Middle Eastern countries, occurs at roughly the same time as Christmas (European/American tradition) and Kwanza (African holiday). “Chanukah, Oh Chanukah” is a well-known tune from the Jewish holiday tradition. In this arrangement, an exciting minor theme progresses into a whirling dance. Students are given the opportunity to play lots of F-naturals and B-flats as a study in low 2’s for high strings and 2’s for cello/bass.
