Spring is in the Air!

We have had a tremendous school year so far at Round Elementary!

Spring always brings a lot of excitement and many great activities.

The Round PTO sponsored the annual auction. Attendees enjoyed

the Student Talent Show featuring Round Elementary students. In

addition, guests won many exciting prizes, classroom baskets, and

had an opportunity to bid on dozens of amazing silent auction items.

It was a night of deep comradery with the Round School Family.

The PTO raised over $10,000.00 which will support the purchase of

new books, chromebooks, a gaga pit, and more making Round an

amazing place to learn.

We would like to thank the many sponsors that donated items for the

Auction, the PTO for organizing this memorable event, the PTO

board and chairpersons who planned the event, and the numerous

volunteers who prepared classroom baskets, helped with

setup/cleanup, refreshments, and ticket sales. Thank you to Tammy

Chinn for being our Master of Ceremonies.

Hartland Consolidated Schools is accepting kindergarten enrollment

packets at the Board of Education office and each of the elementary

schools. Enrollment packets can also be downloaded from the

district website at www.hartlandschools.us.

We will be testing heavily during the month of May. When students

are absent we will ensure they are given another time to test.

2019-2020 PTO Board!

DID YOU KNOW – You may be eligible for free preschool!

The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan's state-funded preschool program for four-year-old children with factors which may place them at risk of educational failure. The program is administered by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Great Start. Funding is allocated to each intermediate school district to administer the program locally. Research on preschool programs and specific research on GSRP indicates that children provided with a high-quality preschool experience show significant positive developmental differences when compared to children from the same backgrounds who did not attend a high-quality preschool program.

Dear Parent/s:

Hartland Consolidated Schools is excited to offer a summer literacy program designed to

accelerate your child’s reading and writing skills over the summer! Your child is being

given the opportunity to participate in Summer Sensations. (Space is limited)

Summer Sensation is a four-week summer literacy program taught by highly trained

Hartland Teachers. Summer Sensation is designed to use your child’s individual strengths,

interests and skills to improve his/her reading and writing abilities over the summer. A

summer reading loss of 3 months is common for students who have experienced difficulty

learning to read (Allington, 2006). After 3 summers, a child could be 1 full year behind.

Summer Sensation is designed to prevent summer reading loss and increase student

achievement.

Your child will receive 56 hours of instruction by a highly trained teacher for

$5.88/hour. Summer Sensations will be taught Monday - Thursday from 8:30 am - 12:00

pm. from July 8th – August 1st . The curriculum will focus on reading, writing, speaking

and listening. The class size will be 15 students per teacher in order to maximize individual

and small group learning opportunities. Your child will receive 56 hours of intensive reading

and writing instruction by a highly trained teacher for $329.00.

Your child’s instructional program will be based on the strengths and needs that they

demonstrate on the assessments given the first day of school. The Summer Sunsation

Curriculum is in alignment with the district English Language Arts Curriculum and all State

and Federal Requirements under Every Student Succeeds Act. Summer Sunsation is a

research-based intervention designed to accelerate the reading and writing progress of all

children who participate.

Dear Round Parents,

As you know, we have been working since the beginning of the year on the “Eagles Take Flight”

SEL/Character Development program. This is a major culture and responsibility shift at Round designed to

teach our students the skills and attitudes they will need to succeed and excel in today’s world. We have

been building an intentional culture and identity. We are Round! We are Leaders! This is our best year

ever!

Our staff has been working hard to integrate the language and habits into everything they do daily in their

classrooms. You can continue to help us and your child by extending these life lessons into your home and

family. You can do this by simply having a discussion with your child. See if they can share and teach you

what they have been learning at school. Just ask them about their “muscles”. They are developing

three. Their “Courage”, “Discipline”, and “Humility” muscles. How strong are they getting?

You can also start the discussion by asking them to finish these sentences: “I always stand up . . . .” and “I

always to do a little bit more . . .” If they can easily finish these statements you can feel assured they are

learning. The next step is to help them incorporate their new habits at home!

As we finish this school year you can help your child by reminding them in your words and actions to keep

working hard and finish strong! Most people learn to work hard most of the time or how to do just

enough. We are learning a different habit here at Round. We are nurturing the habit of always doing a little

more than anyone expects ALL THE TIME.

This comes with practice. Just keep reminding your children that success is a choice and a habit.

Additionally, find ways to use our eight training themes in your home:

1. ”I always stand up for myself and others!”

2. “Whenever I back away from a fear the FEAR gets bigger . . . but whenever I power through a

fear I get bigger!”

3. “I am always a good friend and expect the same from you!”

4. “I always do a little bit more than anyone expects!”

5. “No one outworks me!”

6. “When I am tested. . . I just get stronger and never give up!”

7. “I’m not better than anyone else but no one is better than me!”

8. “I can change the world!”

These training themes are the foundation of our culture’s common values and beliefs.

We will continue this work in the 2019-2020 school year and we hope you will join us!
