ARNOLD BLACK, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., D.M.R.

Ix is sad to report the death of Arnold Black who died suddenly on 27th January 1962 from a coronary occlusion at the age of forty-three years.

Born in Wales, Arnold migrated with his family to Leeds, and was a fellow student at Leeds University and Medical School through the difficult war years. Arnold was always most popular with his fellow students and was much in demand as pianist and tennis player. He graduated M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1943 and after a short spell in general practice, he studied radiodiagnosis at University of London from which he obtained the D.M.R. in 1949. He became Assistant Radiologist in the Dartford, Medway and Gravesend Group and later became Assistant Radiologist at the City General Hospital, Sheffield, where he made many lasting friendships.

Arnold Black was then appointed as Consultant Radiol- ogist to the Staffordshire General Infirmary, but being attracted to London, he moved after a few years to St James Hospital, Balham. He had been Consultant Radiologist at this hospital for four years before his life came to an un- timely end.

Arnold was a very cheerful soul, a generous host and an excellent companion. He was keenly interested in all medical subjects and was a regular attender at radiological meetings. He gave a sound and balanced radiological opinion which was much appreciated by his clinical and radiological colleagues. He was devoted to his wife Jean and their three young children, to whom our deepest sympathies are extended. R.G.G.
