    Issue #1 : March 2010

    WELCOME TO ARMOURED FURYA digest of what has been happening recently at and useful bits of

    information from the scale modeling website - Tanks & Things.

    Welcome to issue #1 of Armoured Fury.Hopefully, the purpose of this journal(basically like a written podcast) is to providea regular digest of recent goings on at theonline forums of the Tanks & Thingswebsite.

    In this first issue, we cover a short step by

    step guide on the hairspraytechnique, from Sven Frisch,for simulating a worn paintlook. I know I have beenvery curious as to how this isdone.

    Other possible regular sections, in noparticular order, will be -

    Real stuff - A reference section showing

    images of real tanks and things;

    Work in Progress - A section on some kits intheir build stages;

    New Bits & Pieces - Some of the new kits oritems that have been released by the variousmanufacturers;

    Awesome Outcomes - Some of the amazingkits that have been finished and presented inthe forums.

    I hope everyone finds this short journaluseful and interesting. Icurrently plan to try andproduce an issue once afortnight at this stage. Of

    course, for all the exhaustiveand complete information, builds

    and finished kits, become a member and hangout around Tanks & Things.

    Step 1 : First we apply thebase color. In this case Iused Model Air Colour, butany other paint will be agood base for the hairspraytechnique.

    Step 2 : Next we apply athin, but even layer ofhairspray. Some modellers

    apply the hairspray throughthe airbrush to get bettercontrol. I usually mist thehairspray from a gooddistance straight out of thecan. The brand is notimportant, so far any brandworked fine.

    Step 3 : Then we airbrush arandom coat of white,

    depending on the effect you

    would like to achive. In thiscase I was after a ratherworn off finish.

    Step 4 : Now we can removethe white paint again, byusing a brush and water. Youmight want to try out all theeffects that can be achievedwith different brushes,

    toothpicks etc. The water willdissolve the hairspray andthe acrylic paint will start tolift after a few seconds.

    Step 5 : Since the effect ofthe chips can be a bit harsh,drybrushing in the basecoulor will further blend theeffect a little more.

    ... and I hope it has been aninteresting and useful exercisefor all.

    I really think that the Tanks &Things forum is a great placeto visit and a big thank yougoes out to all those involved increating it. I regularly visit othermodeling forums but dont findthem anywhere near as friendlyand helpful as Tanks & Things.This little digest is my meagre

    attempt at giving somethingback to the T&T community.

    For me, well Ive committedmyself to the Xtremely Huge &Heavy! and the USMC builds- if only to try and force me toactually build some of the kitsthat I have in my stash. A

    special thanks goes out toTony Lee for some veryuseful advice with someissues Ive had with mySturmtiger build. Hopefully,Ill have some time tocontinue work on it soon.

    Oh, and in case anyonewas wondering, Tanktraxis my Xbox Live name andthe picture on the right is myXbox Live avatar.

    Until next time readers, have funand keep modeling....
