The following document provides information and location of where to find your ArmorStart Heavy’s Manufactured Firmware Revision Number, and the process required to Replace a 1.x with a 2.x unit. Use this Maintenance Bulletin to organize your ArmorStart Heavys, and communicate with Vertique service and support so we can update your system in the smoothest manner possible. All ArmorStart heavies in your facility will have a base and module. The nameplate will show which Firmware Revision Number (FRN) it was manufactured with on the Base. Figure 1. We recommend noting on your ArmorStart packaging which FRN it is, and using up all of your FRN 1.x first, prior to moving on to FRN 2.x. Maintenance Bulletin ArmorStart Revision Update

Applies to Armor Start Heavy: 284E, 280E, 281E

Rockwell Automation is now shipping ArmorStart units from the factory with a new Firmware Revision.

The following document provides information and location of where to find your ArmorStart Heavy’s Manufactured Firmware Revision Number, and the process required to Replace a 1.x with a 2.x unit.

Use this Maintenance Bulletin to organize your ArmorStart Heavys, and communicate with Vertique service and support so we can update your system in the smoothest manner possible.

All ArmorStart heavies in your facility will have a base and module. The nameplate will show which Firmware Revision Number (FRN) it was manufactured with on the Base. Figure 1.

We recommend noting on your ArmorStart packaging which FRN it is, and using up all of your FRN 1.x first, prior to moving on to FRN 2.x.

Due to the fact that this requires the system to be off-line for PLC download, we recommend scheduling if possible, prior to a moment of urgent need that could interrupt a regular run..

Vertique Technical Bulletin

In order to replace a current ArmorStart Heavy with FRN 1.x by a new ArmorStart Heavy with FRN 2.x, it is necessary to have Vertique PLC Support Group download to the PLC.

To change a ArmorStart Heavy in your facility

1. Take a picture of the replacement ArmorStart Tag on the Base, to share with the Support crew.

1.1. Identify the motor number.

1.2. Take note of the Rev of the ArmorStart to be replaced.

1.3. Take note of the IP Address and settings.

2. Call the Vertique Support line and let our team know you have an ArmorStart Heavy to replace.(828) 708-7880

3. Vertique Support will confirm all ArmorStarts Revisions and IP Addresses.

4. Pause the system. Vertique Support will ask you to stop the running of the system.

4.1. Select Press to Pause System in the VertivView main screen.

4.2. Pallet Chain Convey Lift: If the ArmorStart Heavy is used in the PCC area for lifts, and the lift zone will have to be stopped. Access the Pallet Conveyor Layout, navigate to the area when the ArmorStart is going to be changed, and Pause that area of the layout.

If the ArmorStart Heavy is being changed due to a fault, the zone will already be paused

5. The Vertique Support team will capture the required information, and save all values. This may take some time; do not restart the system.

6. The Vertique Support team will confirm with you that the ArmorStart is connected, and at the same IP Address.

7. The Vertique Support team will work with you to run an ArmorStart Confirmation.

7.2. Communicate

7.3. Test

8. Vertique Support will tell you when you may Restart the System.

Try to use your Rev1 ArmorStarts first!

This process will have to be done for each ArmorStart Heavy where there is a transition from FRN 1 to FRN 2, or vica versa.

Do Not tamper with your ArmorStarts!

Tampering with, including taking apart your ArmorStarts, will null and void any warranty.
