Statute of Hayk in Yerevan by Karlen Nurinjanyan
Hayk is also the name of the Orion constellation in the Armenian translation of the Bible. Hayk's flight from Babylon and his eventual defeat of Bel, was historically compared to Zeus's escape to the Caucasus and eventual defeat of the titans
97% of the people living in Armenia are Armenians and the remaining small percentage is made up of different ethnic minorities such as the Yazidis, Russians, Ukrainians, Kurds and more

Though it never took the planed shape of the Grand Square of a perfect city of Tamanyan, Republic Square still can be considered the finest examples of Soviet era architecture as far as squares go.The oval shaped square has a stone pattern in the centre, meant to look like a traditional Armenian rug from above
The National Gallery and the History Museum buildingThe buildings around the square are made of rose and white Armenian tufa stones, fortified on a basalt-made ground anchor
The square was known as Lenin Square. The statue of the Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin was dismantlement in 1990, prior to the independence of Armenia
The Ministry of Transport and the Government House of ArmeniaThe clock of the Government building tower was made in Moscow and transferred to Yerevan in July 1941. The diameter of the clock is 4 meters, the length of the big hand is 188 cm
The early buildings (the
Houses of Government, the
Ministry of Communications, and the Marriott Hotel) are fine
example of Neo-Classical
architecture with Armenian hints. The buildings
from later period (the Foreign
Ministry, and Art Gallery) are Modernist
imitations of previous ones
The dancing water fountains
are located at the northeastern
forehead of the square in front of
the National Gallery
