If you plan to take the SAT or ACT again, deadlines to register are fast approaching. Go to www.collegeboard.com or www.act.org to register this week!!!!

Students interested in participating in college athletes need to register with NCAA. Visit the NCAA web site at https://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/common/ to register. Once you complete the registration process, complete a Transcript Request Form and see Mrs. Derrick in the . Your registration is not complete without a copy of your official transcript.

Academic Common Market – this program allows you to attend a specified out-of-state college but pay in-state tuition. It only works if the major in which you want to enroll is not available in SC. It is definitely worth researching. See Mr. Sumerel for more information OR visit www.sreb.org

Parents are invited to attend one of four financial aid workshops sponsored by Greenville County Schools. All workshops are open to the public. Hear from school counselors and college financial aid officers regarding the most current financial aid information and strategies for successfully navigating the financial aid process.

All types of financial aid, including scholarships, grants, FAFSA, and loans will be discussed. Parents will also receive information on the Sirrine Scholarship.

College Visits: You can receive up to 3 absences during your senior year for college visits. Schedule the visit with the college by calling them in advance, or using their online reservation form for visits. These are typically found on the admissions page of the college’s website. In order for your absence to be excused you must bring a note from a parent ahead of your visit and turn it in to Mrs. Thompson in the Attendance Office . You then must turn in a letter from the college the day after your visit to Mrs. Thompson to verify your visit.

Recommendations: When requesting a teacher recommendations please give your teacher a minimum of ten days to write the recommendation.

SOUTH CAROLINA HOPE SCHOLARSHIP This is a state- awarded scholarship valued at $2,800 for the first year only. Students that have a final minimum 3.0 GPA but do not qualify for the LIFE are eligible to receive this scholarship. Students who receive the SC HOPE and earn a 3.0 at the end of the first year of college may receive the LIFE Scholarship for the second year of college. No application is necessary for this scholarship. Eligibility is based on your final transcript.

SOUTH CAROLINA LIFE SCHOLARSHIP This is a state- awarded scholarship valued at $5000 per year. Students must meet two of the three requirements (1) your final, cumulative grade point average must be a minimum 3.0; (2) minimum 1100 SAT (combined critical reading and math sections) or 24 ACT; or (3) rank in the top 30% of your class at graduation. For a two year college students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (the test score and class rank requirements are waived.) No application is necessary for this scholarship. Eligibility is based on your final transcript. SOUTH CAROLINA PALMETTO FELLOWS SCHOLARSHIP This is a state-awarded scholarship valued at $6700 per year. Students may be eligible to apply if they meet the following three criteria: 1200 SAT/27 ACT, 3.5 GPA, top 6% of the class at the end of the sophomore, junior, or senior year; or meet the following two criteria 1400 SAT/32 ACT and 4.0 GPA at end of the junior or senior year. Students that meet the criteria will be notified by their Counselor to complete an application. SOUTH CAROLINA LOTTERY TUITION ASSISTANCE This state awarded money varies each year dependent on the South Carolina Lottery Revenue. Students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours a semester and advancing toward a degree at one of the state’s two-year institutions. Students must complete the FAFSA as soon after January 1, 2015 as possible. Awards are handled by the college financial aid office.

SC Teaching Fellows Scholarship Up to $24,000 over 4 years. Must be a legal resident of SC, current high school senior who will be attending college in the fall of 2018. Fellowships are based on academic achievement, references, community/school involvement, an interview and writing assessment. Application is available on the website: http://www.cerra.org/teaching-fellows.html Deadline: December 1 Davidson College Bryan Scholarship (senior athletes) This scholarship is for outstanding student athletes planning to play a sport (excluding Football and Men’s & Women’s Basketball) at Davidson College. Dorman may nominate student athletes for this scholarship. Information is available at www.davidson.edu/Bryan Deadline: Students interested in being nominated for this scholarship must submit a resume to their counselor by September 23. SCAEOP Marian Garrett Student Scholarship The South Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals will award a $1500 scholarship to a senior who will be pursuing a career in the business field in college next fall. Application is available online at www.scaeop.org Deadline: November 1 John M. Belk Scholarship @ Davidson College Annual renewable scholarship equivalent to the college’s comprehensive fees (valued at $67,794). Demonstrate academic excellence, integrity and leadership. RHS can nominate two seniors for this scholarship. Interested students should see their alpha counselor by October 18.

LIFE and Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Recipients at the college sophomore level for students pursuing program majors in the following areas: science, math, computer science or informational technology, engineering, science education, math education and healthcare and related disciplines including medicine and dentistry. Incoming freshman must take fourteen credit hours in math and/or science during their freshman year. More information about these state scholarships is available online at www.che.sc.gov

Horatio Algers Scholarship This scholarship is for seniors who have financial need (family income of $55,000 or less) and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarships range from $10,000 to $25,000. Applications must be completed online at https://scholars.horatioalger.org/ Deadline: October 25 SCAEOP Member Dependent Scholarship The South Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals will award a $1500 scholarship to a graduating senior who is a child or grandchild of an active, retired, or life member of SCAEOP and who will be enrolling in college next fall. Application is available online at www.scaeop.org Deadline: November 1 UNC Thomas Wolfe Scholarship This is a full four -year scholarship to the University of North Carolina sponsored by the Creative Writing Program. Information and application is available at https://englishcomplit.unc.edu/creative-writing/scholarshipsand-awards/ Deadline: Students must apply to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill by October 15 and submit an application to the Thomas Wolfe Scholarship by November 15. Kitty M. Fairey Educational Fund Scholarship Must plan to attend full time an accredited college/university in the state of South Carolina. GPA of 3.0 or higher,

demonstrated financial need, scholarship is for one year only. Applicants can apply at www.csascholars.org/kmfr Deadline: December 2 SC Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship Be a SC high school senior, GPS of 2.75 or higher, be a resident of SC, have a competitive or re creational interest in golf, must attend a SC college/university. Applicants must have depth of character, faith and service driven life. Applicants must be nominated by your counselor. Scholarship Deadline is November 6 with interview in early December. Lyceum Scholars Program – Clemson University $10,000 for incoming freshman to study the moral, political and economic foundations of a free society. The program is a 8 course sequence that students take together as an intellectual cohort during their undergraduate career.
