The Arizona Health Care Association (AHCA) is the state’s largestprofessionallongtermcareassociationrepresentingproprietaryandnon-proprietaryskillednursingcentersandassistedlivingcommunities.Foundedin1953andledbya12-memberboardofdirectors,AHCAassistsmembercentersinprovidingthehighestqualityoflongtermcaretotheirresidentsthroughadvocacy,high-qualityeducationprogramsandtimelyandstrategicinformation.

WelcometotheAHCAAnnualReport!AsI’msureyou’venoticed,thisisafairlynewreport(secondyear)designedtogiveanoverviewofwheretheassociationstands.It’skindofanaccountingofwhattheassociationhasdoneoverthelastyear.
Since1953,theArizonaHealthCareAssociationhasservedthelongtermcareprofession.Itslon-gevityisatruetestamenttothestrengthanddedicationofitsmembership.ItisthatsamestrengthanddedicationthathasallowedArizona’slongtermcareproviderstopersevereagainsttheoftendifficultoddswefaceinthisstate.
IthasbeenmyhonorandprivilegetoserveastheAHCAPresidentforthelastyearandahalf.OneofmymaingoalswhenIfirststartedwastocontinuetoincreasetheinfluenceoflongtermcarethroughoutthestate.Personally,Ibelieveweworktoaccomplishthiseverydaythroughtheeffortsmadebyeachmemberfacilitythroughoutthestateinprovidingexcellentcaretoourresidentsandpatients.OurfocusonqualityisevidentthroughtheproliferationoftheAHCA/NCALQualityAwards(over37applicationsmadethisyearalone),increasedattendanceatoureducationandconventionprograms,expansionoftheDisaster Readyprogramandoursolidpublicpolicyperformance.
Mysecondgoalwastoincreaseourcommunicationeffort.Ithinkwecanchecktheboxonthatonejustbylookingattheoutstandingweeklynewslettersthatgoouttotheentiremembership.IhopeyoufindthosehelpfulandIappreciatetheeffortsbytheAHCAstafftogiveustimelyandpertinentinformation.TheA2ZVideos,thenewQualityandRegulatorynewsletter,aswellasthisAnnualReportalsocontributetothiseffort.
Thethirdgoalwastokeepusonsolidfinancialfooting.Thataccomplishmentwasmadepossiblebyyouthroughmembershipretention,increasedduesdollarsandincreasedattendanceattheannualconventionandexpo.
