The Grand Canyon is a
colorful, steep-sided gorge,
carved by the ColoradoRiver, in northern Arizona.
The canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of theworld and is largely contained in the Grand Canyon
National Park — one of the first national parks in the
United States.Saguaro Cactus at
Sunset,Az.
You’ll find cacti of every
size and shape in the
state’s desert areas, whilethick green forests create
canopies filled with
mountain creatures in higher elevations. The state
flower is the white blossom of the saguaro, thelargest cactus in the United States. The saguaro
blossoms appear on the tips of the long arms of the
cactus during May and June.
Bisbee, AZ. The mostimpressive thing in town is
probably the enormous
open pit copper mine (nolonger active) which you
can't help but notice.
Bisbee is actually in themountains whereas most of the towns in Southern
Arizona are in the wide valleys between them. As a resultits buildings are crammed into a tiny buildable little
valley.
The Wave is a sandstonerock formation. It is
famous among hikers and
photographers for its
colorful, undulating forms, and the rugged, trackless
hike required to reach it.
Grammar
Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe or modify
another person or thing in the sentence. An adjective adds
information on number, colour, type, and other qualitiesto your sentence.
Ex: Cold weather, large windows, violent storms, and purple flower.
- Position of Adjectives
Where do you find adjectives?
Most of the time, you find them in front of the word
they’re describing.
Adjectives describing nouns: the most common
job for an adjective is describing a noun. Ex: But
Central Arizona has more to offer than the big city –
like hiking trails and casinos near Fountain Hills and
Fort McDowell.
Adjectives describing pronouns: Adjectives can
also describe pronouns (words that substitute for nouns).
When they’re giving you information about pronouns, adjectives usually appear after the pronoun they’re
describing. Ex: When Arizona's nature comes to
flora and fauna, it’s difficult to beat the diversity
because of its beauty.
- Identifying Adjectives
To find adjectives, go to the words they describe – nouns
and pronouns. Start with the noun and ask it three
questions.
How many? / Which one? / What kind?
Warning!
A common error changes nouns into adjectives –
improperly! The word quality, for example, is a noun
meaning worth, condition, or characteristic. Some people
use quality as an adjective meaning good or luxurious.
Grammatically, you can’t buy a quality television. You
can buy a high-quality television.

Arizona: Law
and Order 1912-
2012
The most colorful part of Arizona’slong history is in the late 19th
century during the glory days of the
Wild West. Between the Civil War
and the dawn of the 20th century, the country’s rowdy teenage years
left a lasting impression that is stillfelt worldwide. This transition from
a "wild" western frontier intoorganized segments of a federal
union is documented in
photographs. Then, Arizona is the48th state and last of the
contiguous states to be admitted tothe Union, and it achieved
statehood on February 14, 1912.
Put the correct adjectives in the right place:
