Purpose, Scope and Membersof ARIES-TNS Operations TWG
Purpose: Develop operational plans and recommended R&D to mitigate risk of plant operation
Scope: - Develop operational requirements for Operations, RAMI, and test campaigns - Consider IHMS implications on operations- Identify R&D items that could reduce operational risk and enhance availability- Develop Operations R&D projects and plans- Consider both test operations as well as normal operations- Translate operational requirements into design requirements
Tentative Members:Les Waganer, Boeing, LeadChuck Kessel, PPPL, PhysicsAlan Turnbull, GA, PhysicsLee Cadwallander, INL, ReliabilitySaid Abdel-Khalik, GIT, Regulatory IssuesRich Peipert-Jr, Boeing, MaintenanceTom Weaver, Boeing, I&C

Partial Draft of Plant Operations Completed Les Waganer developed and circulated a draft outline, suggested content, introduction (adapted from Mark Tillack’s Power Handling TWG draft report, and suggested goals and objectives.
Lee Cadwallader contributed sections on (1) Plant Availability goal of 90%, (2) Safety and Environmental Standards, and (3) State of the Art Electrical Power Generating Plant Operations.
Partially developed “Normal day-to-day control operations” Les provided some comments on staffing, degree of automation, and plant health monitoring and predictive capabilities. Lee added some discussion about man-machine interface and required operator actions on a typical plant operation.More work needed on“Normal Off-Line Operations (Distributed Control)” “Main Power Core Refurbishment”“Minor Scheduled Maintenance Operations (Power
Core Non-Operational)““Unscheduled Major and Minor Maintenance
Operations (Power Core Non-Operational
