Argula von Grumbach (1492-1554) The Bavarian noble woman was the first woman author of pamphlets promot- ing academic freedom and the reforma- tory sola scriptura. Her 1523/1524 pamphlets saw numerous edi- tions reaching about 30,000 readers, in Ba- varia and far beyond.
