Think about your heart for a moment…
It is an incredible, amazing, pump, that pushes blood through your entire body every second, minute and
hour of the day
When you are at rest you have a resting heart rate
When you run, walk fast, or do any cardio type
exercise
your heart pumps faster
What does that increased heart rate do to your
body?
Well for one thing, it brings more oxygen to your cells
and tissues...oxygen supplies energy
Oxygen is also vital to maintaining healthy joints and thehealth of trillions of cells of your body
Think of your body as a car. If you let your car sit in a garage for months and
started it every once in a while, it would start to rust
and wear out for lack of use. Oxidation will set in and your
cars radiator hoses will become brittle.
Why?
Because no water has been flowing through them
at a steady rate of speed. Your tires will also go bad
quicklybecause they have not
moved...your tires will oxidize and become brittle
We do not want that to happen to us
We don't want to rust
like the Tin Man in the Wizard
of Oz
So how can we prevent that?
We must move, and move often
We must increase
our heart rate through walking, or running, or cardio exercise
Don't rust like the car
Move, and move often
Because it makes you stronger
Because it will fill you with energy
Because it is a better, healthier lifestyle than sitting
Take long walks
Do jumping jacks
Rent an exercise video and do aerobics while watching it
Join a gym No excuses!
Just Do It!
