› Match and manage data, outputs, grants and improve discoverability

› Increase the accuracy of the HERDC and ERA counts

› Tracking researchers as the move about

› Authority control

Why is this important?

ARDC Party Infrastructure Project

› National Library of Australia (NLA) project funded by the Australian National Data Service (ANDS)

› The Aim: Adapt the NLA’s People Australia infrastructure so that the research sector could contribute and manage their party records and obtain NLA-issued persistent identifiers for their records about researchers and research organisations.

›

The Project

For researchers the aim was to provide:

› One identifier, issued by the NLA, for each researcher to which all of his or her other identifiers can resolve.

› A public identifier.

› A persistent identifier for us to use

› Example: http://nla.gov.au/nla.party-630330

› We need to provide the NLA with data so we can give our researchers persistent id’s

› Some important points to note:

- This is easier said than done.

- There is no single point for data – it is kept in a number of systems that do not effectively talk to each other.

- No one is responsible for this

What do we do now?

› The Aim: To build a comprehensive record about a researcher, their outputs, affiliations, data and grants.

› It is hoped that this system will be installed next year 2012.

› Watch this space.
