Archives and libraries contain largequantities of valuable materials anddocuments, such as artwork or sensitivedata.

Protection of these areas is of particularimportance and necessitates special fireprotection measures.

A high priority is given to the protectionof human life.

Conventional sprinkler systems are notsuitable for such risks, because of highwater damage in case of activation,which easily can exceed the damagecaused by the fire itself.Gas extinguishing systems do notdamage the protected goods, butusually require very large cylinderstorage areas as well as sealedcompartments.They can only be activated after a pre-warning time and most of the gases areof environmental concern or even toxic.

FOGTEC systems use so little water thatthe resulting water damage is muchlower. This allows the use of early detection systems triggering the watermist system without fear of a falsealarm.

Detectors can be used for activation aswell as fast response glass bulbs.

libraries can be designed as totalflooding or automatic single head operated system. Sensitive areas such asarchives and libraries, which have beenleft unprotected in the past, can beprotected effectively with a FOGTECsystem.

The fine water mist reaches also hiddenspaces within shelves, unlike a sprinkler.At the same time the temperature in theprotected area is significantly reducedand the fire is immediately enclosed.This effect is of particular importance toreduce the spread of fire to othervaluable items.

A much better effect in regard of smokescrubbing is achieved by FOGTECsystems compared to sprinklers and gas

systems. Taking into consideration thatsmoke usually causes most of the damage, smoke scrubbing can not bevalued high enough especially forapplications such as archives and libra-ries.

Due to the very small pipe sizes requiredby FOGTEC systems, retrofits can easilybe carried out also in buildings with special requirements in regard of thebuilding architecture.

The central pumping unit requiresconsiderably less space than in case ofsprinkler systems. Large water storagetanks are not required.
