architecture & dwellingsMy childhood dreams of being architect came from my belief about the very power of architecture to people’s home, their dwellings and “being” and also to their larger living environ-ment; however is it man-made or natural.

I begin my architect career when my country, my city, my dis-trict, and my home that I grew up on- undergoes great change about space and life quality. I’m sure that never have architects got such a high request and expectation from the society as to-day. People needs help to conceive a new “home”, a new en-vironment for their material and spiritual life that seem more and more abundant and complex. But the enthusiasm for the “richness” and the “modernity” of contemporary life, for mul-tiple professional opportunities offered to architects, can’t make me nevertheless forget the intern paradox of this global meta-morphosis. In fact, in assisting building people’s “home”, with conscience or not, architects have spread not only joy, happiness and hope but also inquiry and doubt, even disaster to human and natural environment and their development.

Hence I can’t help interrogating the power and the limit of ar-chitecture, their conceptions of comfort, aesthetic, modernity,

quality, local and global, traditional and “occidental”, ordinary and extraordinary, common and private.

It is conventionally taught that architect is essentially an artist of a great creativity. Yet I think that a contemporary architect requires first of all a sincere conscience about organic interre-lations between people and their home, their living space, their environment and the transformation purpose of architecture with regard to these matters. Besides some architecture that are made as masterpiece to be contemplated, to be experienced, does life always need a kind of architecture simply for the “right” human dwellings - that are not only shelter for people’s body and soul but also by their senses, connect them to the wide and moving world?

Is it time for architecture that beyond the egoist posture of an art that simply creates power, beauty, and harmony, is a challenging art of collective responsibility - the art of transforming human environment, whose finality is to help life go on in its diversity, health, happiness and if possible, in its poetic?
