about me Once I traveled to Europe to study english for a month in England. During the f i ldtrips I got

to travel to London and Paris and I had the opportunity to experience a cosmopolitan

city with such well-maintained and accessible public spaces, and such an ef fective

transport mobili ty. Thus, I decided that when I had the opportunity, I would like to

study and work as the professionals responsable for the aesthetics of the buildings

and on the inner-workings of the great metropolis, fundamentally inf luencing the high

quality of l i fe of the people. In addition, I have always had the passion for arts in

general and tryed to learn a li t t le about every segment, having acting classes, drawing

lessons and craf twork workshops, so I decided that architecture and urbanism

would be the perfect profession in which I could inf luence directly people’s li fe.

The idea was to step in on a place that seemed to be important for the city of Catas Altas and the dwellers. It was decided to provide a sensitive experince to the people who crosses the main bridge of the city, called Maquiné, and change their path through the structure. Also had an intention to highlight the sorrounding nature of the bridge evoking an urban consciousness about the ill-mantained river and the mountain arround the city that is suf ferring from strong mining. ā

The searchlight had a red cover to give tex ture to the rocks and

the river underneath the footbridge. The idea was to call at tention

to the sorrounding nature that most people of the city do not

usually look. Above there is the diagram of the wiring connection.

Page 9: Architecture Portfolio

The sensitive experience was related not only to the vision but also the listening. To emphasize the f low of the river and of the people who crosses the bridge we used sounds of water (river, waterfall, rain, leak), clocks, wind, person steps and others. Above there is the sound system f ixation.

The aim of the project was to design a square in a residual space in a neighborhood called Barreiro that suf fer with lack of public spaces. The square needed to be floodplain, due to the intense raining during the summer that overflows the river nearby, and also create a connection between the people who live in both sides of the watercourse. Throughout the project process we seek to provide a place where the kids could play, the people could do gymnastics, throw big events, discuss community subjects, relax and have a leisure.

The study of the wind direction helped us to create a pleasant microclimate to the square, ensuring that the depth of the ground did not interfere in its use.

The understanding of the sun trajectory was important to decide the position of the trees and ensure shades on the hot test moments of the day

The strong slope of the terrain was a challenge for us because we wanted to keep the square visible. Hence, it was decided to create three inclined plateaus ..

The main idea of this intervention was to understand, by diagrams, the daily habits of an artistic couple in order to, integrated with their necessities, propose a flexible house that could work as a hostel sometimes. At the first moment I have made an interview with the couple, than I understood the house sorroundings and facilities , took pictures of each detail and as a finish work I have proposed a few changes to the house.

The hypercenter of Belo Horizonte have a high density of ontique buildings that need to be repaired or used in a diferent way. There we could find a reasonable amount of informal activities and actions made by the people to appropriate of the space and to acquire a bit of money. Thus, as we were determinate to find a place that could be renewed and take a new role for the city’s life, we decided to intervene on a 40’s building that used to have a huge importance as laisure place

Combine the existing access to the new created to reinforce the free appropriation of the building

Provide new perspectives of the sorroundings regarding the history of the place. Thus, it was proposed to turn some of the private floors into public.

Create a new space for stores, strengthening the caracteristic of the hypercenter : commerce
