OBJECTIVE: Perceptual and conceptual approximation to space and form. DESCRIPTION: The intention was to develop mechanisms to comprehend the components of architectural and urban space, taking into account the study and analysis of the principles of architecture. Understand through the perception, an architectural space and identify the elements that constitute it. PROFESSORS: Gonzalo DelgadilloSamuel Arango

PAINTER’S HOUSESTUDIO I • The understanding of space from the PERCEPTION2008

OBJECTIVE: Architectural design for a specific user. DESCRIPTION: All the concepts studied before were applied to this project, where the goal was to create an architectural space that satisfied the needs of a painter. It was an approximation to reality, where the design had to pay close attention to the user and its particular characteristics, as well as to the relation with the environment (topography and natural elements). MAGICIAN’S HOUSE - LA CALERA, BOGOTÁSTUDIO II • The ABSTRACT understanding of space

2008

OBJECTIVE: Develop a design exercise as part of the construction of ideas, based on the concepts analyzed. DESCRIPTION: There was a challenge of working with a slope and the complexity of adapting the project to it, without neglecting the relationship with the en-vironment. The house had to perform the function of creating spaces that responded to the needs of a magician. This project aimed to create a feeling of lightness, so the house could reflect the qualities of its user.PROFESSOR: Samuel Arango

PAVILION FOR EXHIBITIONS - PARQUE NACIONAL, BOGOTÁSTUDIO III • The architectural construction of SITE2009

OBJECTIVE: To gain knowledge of how to construct place through architecture, tak-ing into account the relationship with the environment and the location.DESCRIPTION: After analyzing the different variables of the site (water, topography, vegetation, mobility, sun and sky), it was concluded that the river was the most important element. The intention was to incorporate the water through the river to give motion, letting it pass under the project without forgetting the topography and the architectural program of a pavilion for exhibitions.PROFESSOR: Pedro Juan Jaramillo

LIBRARY AND GALLERY FOR THE ARTS - TEUSAQUILLO, BOGOTÁSTUDIO III • The architectural construction of SITE

2009OBJECTIVE:To transform the natural environment to a constructed space, tak-ing into account the relationship between architecture and the site.DESCRIPTION: An approach to urbanism, where the project relates to the urban environment creating plazas, respecting the mobility and allowing it to continue flowing. That’s why some of the volumes were elevated on stilts, to respect the continuity of pedestrian and vehicular mobil-ity. Pedestrian bridges were created as an outdoor mobility system, reflecting and projecting the mobility of the first floors. PROFESSOR: Pedro Juan Jaramillo

OBJECTIVE:To understand the elements for the construction of urban spatiality.

DESCRIPTION: The intention was to design a shopping center integrated with housing through public spaces, such as a park, in order

to satisfy the needs of the community. This is how the architectural design and the urban space merge to form an urban complex.

MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING - LAS CRUCES, BOGOTÁSTUDIO V • LOW - INCOME housing

2010OBJECTIVE:To develop a project which responds to specific housing problems, based on the particularities of the context and the meaning of low-income housing. DESCRIPTION: The intention was to design a housing project in Las Cruces, a low class neighborhood in Bogotá, along with pedestrian paths and spaces for the community (for recreation, sports, and integration). The houses were designed as modules that were repeated next to each other to form a grouping and reinforce the meaning of a community. Each module was composed of three different typologies. COFFEE MUSEUM - FUSAGASUGA, CUNDINAMARCASTUDIO VI • MOBILITY and PUBLIC SPACE 2010

OBJECTIVE: Propose solutions to satisfy the needs of mobility and public space, contributing to improve the

living conditions of the city.DESCRIPTION:

The idea of the project was to present a design of a Coffee Museum requested by the City Hall of Fusagasuga. The project took place in a coffee farm outside the city, where the inten-

tion was to adapt it (its buildings and its surroundings) for the museum, as well as design all the public spaces and the mobility for pedestrians and vehicles.

URBAN RENEWAL OF LA ALAMEDA - SAN VICTORINO, BOGOTÁSTUDIO VII • CENTRAL AREAS of the city

2010OBJECTIVE: To understand the conceptual elements for the intervention of the central areas of the constructed city, and the conditions that affect their deterioration over time. DESCRIPTION: The project consisted on rehabilitating a low-class neighborhood in the south of Bogota, improving its systems of: mobility, public space and land use, and preserving some pre-existing buildings. The urban scale was composed of a shopping center, an academy of art, residences for students and artists, commerce and office buildings, all of them articulated through a tree-lined avenue with bike and pedestrian paths. 2010RESIDENCES FOR ARTISTS AND STUDENTSAfter proposing the urban design, a particular project had to be chosen and developed. In this case, the project chosen consisted of residences for artists and students, with restaurants and galleries on the first floors. The buildings have an U-form, creating a block center with public space that satisfies the demand of the sector. As well, they have a diagonal floor plan, in order to break with the traditional and orthogonal urban trace.

HOUSING BETWEEN WATERS - FONTIBON, BOGOTÁSTUDIO VIII • HABITAT of the XXI century2011

21

OBJECTIVE: To develop mechanisms of research, analysis and abilities for

proposals to the habitat of this century.DESCRIPTION:

Regarding the urban scale, the project consisted on improving a sector of Bogota, in this case Fontibon, restructuring the mobil-ity, the natural system, land uses and system of public space. As

well, part of the project was to propose new buildings with mixed uses such as housing, commerce and other complementary ser-vices (library, schools, etc.) all of them integrated in order to form

a compact city where the use of the vehicle becomes limited. PROFESSOR:

After the urban approach, a block had to be chosen and developed with buildings of mixed uses. The concept of transition remained, where the intention was to create transition between uses and activities and between the interior and exterior.

In the apartments the concept of flexibility and transition is present, due to sliding and revolving panels that allow the ex-pansion of spaces and the division of these as well to create different spatial options. Following the diagonal structure of the building, some interior walls are diagonal in or-der to generate different perspectives and interest-ing spaces.

EDUCATIONAL BUILDINGS AS A STRUCTURING SYSTEM OF THE EDUCATING CITY - BOSA, BOGOTÁSTUDIO X • THESIS

2012OBJECTIVE: Consolidate a developing area on the outskirts of Bosa and articulate it with the rest of the city throughout a system of public buildings, public space and residential areas to strengthen the urban structure of the southwestern periphery of Bogota.DESCRIPTION: The Educating City proposed consists of a system of educational buildings such as schools, kindergartens, a cultural center and an Arts and Crafts Center and Technology of Bosa, complementary to the system of public space, where the main objective is to facilitate the public access to these buildings. The Educating City also aims to educate people from the outside of the building itself, therefore, the proposal also includes dwellings and workshops for artisans that open onto a pedestrian street (the street of artisans), teaching the pedestrians how handcrafts are made. To promote this work and train these people who develop the crafts, the Arts and Crafts Center and Technology of Bosa is designed, which consists of two courtyard typology public buildings that integrate and complement each other in order to provide a service to the citizens.PROFESSOR: Ioannis Alexiou

- A passive-recrational mobility system- Technological and train-ing centers close to busi-ness uses - Locate the educational buildings along the eco-logical structure (parks), with commerce in resi-dential areas.

- Linear parks along streams complemented with re-search buildings along the Bogota River, and facilities in tourism along the eastern hills.- Create a grid of mobility that links existing centralities and generates adequate capacity to support future economic activities and other services
