SECTION 07410 - PREFORMED METAL ROOFING AND UNDERLAYMENT

PART 1 - GENERAL
RELATED DOCUMENTS:
Drawings and general provisions of Contract including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification sections apply to work of this section.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Extent of each type of preformed roofing is indicated on the drawings and by provisions of this section. Preformed roofing is hereby defined to include panels which are structurally capable of spanning between supports spaced as indicated.
Provide all materials, labor, equipment and services, and perform all operations in connection with the furnishing and installing of roofing complete, in accordance with the drawings and specifications and including, but, not limited to the following:
Gym Building
Proposal “A” Replacement System
1. The Contractor shall remove the existing metal roof system, roof insulation and associated flashing components.
2. Install new Simple Saver roof insulation system.3. Install a new pre-formed and pre-finished metal roof panel system.4. Contractor shall provide a 20-year NDL manufacturer’s warranty and the
5-year Building Commission Contractor’s workmanship warranty.5. Provide and install new gutters and downspouts.
Proposal “B” Retrofit System
1. The existing metal roof system shall remain.2. Provide and install new 2” RC “Z” purlins attached to existing roof
structure.3. Provide and install one (1) layer of self adhered underlayment laid over
the existing roof panels4. Provide and install 2” of unfaced batt insulation to fill the void between the

8. Provide and install new Syseal® type woven vapor barrier/liner fabric reinforced, high-density polyethylene coated on both sides white color and with sealants, tapes and accessories per this specification section.

QUALITY ASSURANCE:
The Contractor shall engage and pay a Certified Roofing Consultant, approved by Architect, will attend the pre-roofing conference and provide a certificate of compliance in a start up, in progress and final inspection mode, certifying that the roof system will
be approved to receive a 20 year manufacturers warranty.

Performance Test Standards: Provide preformed panel systems which have been pretested and certified by manufacturer to provide specified resistance to air and water infiltration and structural deflection and failure when installed as indicated and when tested in accordance with AAMA 501, "Methods of Test for Metal Curtain Walls".
Field Measurements: Where possible, prior to fabrication of prefabricated panels, take field measurements of structure or substrates to receive panel system. Allow for trimming panel units where final dimensions cannot be established prior to fabrication.

Roof coverings installed on low-slope roofs (roof slope <2:12) shall resist impact damage based on the results of tests conducted in accordance with ASTM D 3746, ASTM D 4272, CGSB 37-GP-52M or the “Resistance to Foot Traffic Test “FM 4470.
ROOFERS QUALIFICATIONS
Installation of the Standing Seam metal roofing and roof related accessories shall be
performed by CERTIFIED/PREFERRED ROOFERS authorized by the manufacturer as trained and qualified to erect the manufacturer's product.
The General Contractor shall submit a letter from the manufacturer of the standing seam metal roofing system, certifying the date of certification from the Manufacturer and the dates and year the Roofing Contractor attended school, prior to full certification that this Roofing Contractor is a certified roofer.SUBMITTALS:
Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product specifications, standard details, certified product test results, installation instructions and general recommendations, as applicable to materials and finishes for each component and for total system of preformed panels.
Samples: Submit 2 samples 12" square, of each exposed finish material.
Shop Drawings: Submit small-scale layouts of panels on roofs, and large-scale details of edge conditions, joints, corners, custom profiles, supports, anchorages, trim, flashings, closures, and special details. Distinguish between factory an field assembly work.
WARRANTY:
SPECIAL WARRANTY: Building Commission standard 5 year guarantee.
GENERAL WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS:
WEATHER TIGHTNESS: The entire installation (sub-framing, clips, panels, fasteners, rakes, eave, ridge, valley flashing conditions, roof to wall conditions as well as all materials specified as supplied by the manufacture) shall be guaranteed weather tight for a minimum of twenty (20) years (NO Dollar Limit NDL). Provide written warranty, signed by metal roofing manufacturer and his authorized installer, agreeing to replace/repair defective materials and workmanship during the warranty period, certified by the third party inspection firm as stated under QUALITY ASSURANCE. This warranty shall be identified as neither Non-Depreciating, Non-Pro-Rated, nor have exclusions that identify, valleys, curbs, and flashings. The warranty shall be signed by the Manufacture of the roofing materials and the authorized installer.

All roof warranty’s shall be provided to the Owner, by the Contractor at the Final Inspection to obtain the Substantial Completion.
Standard manufacturer’s roofing guarantees which contain language regarding the governing of the guarantee by any state other than the State of Alabama, must be amended to exclude such language, and substituting the requirement that the Laws of the State of Alabama shall govern all such guarantees.
The roofing manufacture shall be required to provide documentation certifying that the roof design provided complies with the performance requirements as set forth in IBC Chapter 15, Section 1504. The documentation shall be attached to the roof warranty at the close out of the project.
Roof Panels
Durability of the metallic coated and unpainted roof panels due to rupture, structural failure or perforation shall be warranted for a period of twenty (20) years by the manufacturer.
The exterior color finish for painted panels shall be warranted by the Manufacturer for twenty-five (25) years against blistering, peeling, cracking, flaking, chalking and shipping. Excessive color change and chalking shall be warranted for twenty-five (25) years. Color change shall not exceed 5 NBS units per ASTM D2244.68T, chalking shall not be less than a rating of 6 (white) or 8 (other colors) per ASTM D-659.
Compatibility: Provide products which are recommended by manufacturers to be fully compatible with indicated substrates or provide separation materials as required to eliminate contact between incompatible materials.
DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING:
Deliver and store prefabricated components, sheets, panels and other manufactured items so they will not be damaged or deformed.
Stack materials on platforms or pallets, covered with tarpaulins or other suitable weathertight ventilated covering. Store metal sheets or panels so that water accumulations will drain freely. Do not store sheets or panels in contact with other materials which might cause staining.
PRE-ROOFING CONFERENCE:
A pre-roofing conference is required before any roofing materials are installed. This conference shall be conducted by a representative of the Architect and attended by representatives of the Owner, Building Commission Inspector, General Contractor, Roofing Contractor, Sheet Metal Contractor, Roof Deck Manufacturer (if applicable), and the Roofing Materials Manufacturer (if warranty is required of this manufacturer). If

equipment of substantial size is to be placed on the roof, the Mechanical Contractor must also attend this meeting. Provide at least 72 hours advance notice to participants prior to convening pre-roofing conference.
The pre-roofing conference is intended to clarify demolition and application requirements for work to be completed before roofing operations can begin. This would include a detailed review of the specifications, roof plans, roof deck information, flashing details, and approved shop drawings, submittal data, and samples. If conflict exists between the specifications and the Manufacturer’s requirements, this shall be resolved. If this pre-roofing conference cannot be satisfactorily concluded without further inspection and investigation by any of the parties present, it shall be reconvened at the earliest possible time to avoid delay of the work. In no case should the work proceed without inspection of all roof deck areas and substantial agreement on all points.
The following are to be accomplished during the conference:
1. To review all Factory Mutual and Underwriters Laboratories requirements listed in the specifications and resolve any questions or conflicts that may arise.
2. To establish trade-related job schedules, including the installation of roof-mounted mechanical equipment.
3. To establish roofing schedule and work methods that will prevent roof damage.
4. Require that all roof penetrations and walls be in place prior to installing the roof.
5. To establish those areas on the job site that will be designated as work
and storage areas for roofing operations.6. To establish weather and working temperature conditions to which all
parties must agree.7. To establish acceptable methods of protecting the finished roof if any
trades must travel across or work on or above any areas of the finished roof.
The Architect shall prepare a written report indicating actions taken and decisions made at this pre-roofing conference. This report shall be made a part of the project record and copies furnished the General Contractor, the Owner, the Building Commission, and the Building Commission Inspector."
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
All materials shall be from a single source.

Manufacturer: The following manufacturers' products have been used to establish minimum standard for materials, workmanship and function:
Loc Seam Panel: Products shall be equal to or exceed the quality level of
American Buildings Company's Loc-Seam 360 (Kynar 500 Finish) Panel roof
system. Other manufacturers are acceptable subject to compliance with specified requirements. Equal to manufactures are as listed:

Equal products of other manufacturers may be used in the work, provided such products have been approved by the Architect.
Loc-Seam 360 Panel - Standing seam roof panel shall have a configuration consisting of 2 inch high vertical rib spaced on 16 inch centers. The panel shall have flush horizontal and vertical surfaces to facilitate sealing at terminations. Panel configurations which create voids requiring supple metal closure devices shall not be considered acceptable. Panels shall be joined at the sidelap with an interlocking seam mechanically locked by a seaming machine after installation. The female panel seam shall have a factory applied sealant, in compliance with UL90.
The panel shall be 24 gauge (minimum) commercially pure aluminum coated steel meeting military specification MIL-C-4174A Type II, Galvalume or G90 galvanized. Minimum yield stress shall be 50,000 PSI.
Deviations in appearance from the quality standard manufacturer's panel must be approved by the owner before acceptance.
Changes in framing or variations in loading to the existing structure caused by alternate roof systems shall be subject to review and all costs for any modifications shall be the responsibility of the General Contractor.
System Description: The roof system is a concealed fastener interlocking standing
seam system. Panel must not be roll formed on site, nor use a portable roll former
whereby the contractor manufactures the panel versus a single sourced
manufacture providing the finished materials with a single sourced warranty.
Roof panels shall be standing seam interlocking design and secured to the supports with a concealed structural fastening system. UL certification must appear on the panel if so requested.
The concealed attachment system shall eliminate all through penetration of the

exposed roofing surface into structural supports and allow the roof covering to move independently of any differential thermal movement by the framing system.
The panel to structural clip shall be designed to provide +/- one inch of thermal movement. It shall incorporate a self centered feature to assure one inch of movement in both directions.
The standing seam shall have integral male and female interlocking ribs with a factory applied, non-hardening sealant, and the seams shall be continuously locked or crimped together by mechanical means during installation.
Roof panels shall be fastened to the support framing members with a concealed clip or backing device of steel having a protective metallic coating. Through penetration of the roofing surface by exposed fasteners shall occur only for non-structural connection at panel termination and roof perimeter flashing location.
Panel termination and perimeter flashing (attached to roof panels) shall be sealed with sealants recommended by the manufacturer.
Required closures shall be metal. Non-metal closures shall not be acceptable.
METAL FINISHES:
General: Apply coating either before or after forming and fabricating panels, as required by coating process and as required for maximum coating performance capability.
Protect coating promptly after application and cure, by application of strippable film or removable adhesive cover and retain until installation has been completed.
Color Finish on Roof Panels and all Trim: Shall have a factory color finish. The exposed finish shall consist of a 70% KYNAR 500® resin base coating applied to a cleaned, pretreated and primed surface. The dry film thickness of the exterior coating shall not be less than .90 mil minimum, inclusive primer. The interior color finish shall consist of a backer coat with a dry film thickness of 0.5 mil. The exterior color finish shall meet or exceed the performance requirements specified below. A low gloss finish
is required to minimize the appearance of oil canning. Color shall match existing.

Colors must meet the following: The solar reflectance for a steep-sloped roof must be a minimum of 25%, dropping no less than to 15% after three years. Low sloped roofs (below 2:12) must be a minimum of 65% dropping to no less than 50% after three years.
ROOFING PANELS:
General: Provide roofing sheets formed to the general profile or configuration indicated. All roof panels shall be full length, no end laps allowed.
Zinc-Coated Steel Sheets: Provide structural quality hot-dip galvanized steel sheets, complying with requirements of ASTM A446, Grade C, with G90 coating complying with ASTM A525.
Aluminum Coated Steel Sheets: Provide drawing quality aluminum coated steel sheets, complying with requirements of ASTM A463, with T1-40 coating.
1. Metal thickness not less than 24 ga. (0.0179”).
Roof Panel: Provide manufacturer’s standard factory former standing seam roof panel clipped down to roof purlins. Panels of 24 ga. aluminum zinc alloy coated steel in 24” finish width equal to American Buildings.
Fasteners: Provide self tapping screws, bolts, nuts, self-locking rivets, self-locking bolts, end-welded studs, and other suitable fasteners as standard with the manufacturer, designed to withstand design loads.

1. Provide metal-backed neoprene washers under heads of fasteners bearing on weather side of panels.
2. Use stainless steel fasteners for exterior application and galvanized or cadmium plated fasteners for interior applications.
3. Locate and space fastenings in true vertical and horizontal alignment. Use proper type fastening tools to obtain controlled uniform compression for positive seal without rupture of neoprene washer.
4. Provide fasteners with heads matching color of roofing sheets by means of plastic caps or factory-applied coating.
Accessories: Provide the following sheet metal accessories factory formed of the same material and finish as the roofing.
1. Flashings.2. Fillers.3. Metal expansion joints.4. Fascias.5. Ridge Covers6. Gutters and Downspouts
Cover exposed structural and secondary members at exterior.
Flexible Closure Strips: Provide closed-cell, expanded cellular rubber, self-extinguishing flexible closure strips. Cut or premold closure strips to match corrugation configuration of roofing and siding sheets. Provide closure strips where indicated or necessary to ensure weathertight construction.
Sealing Tape: Provide pressure sensitive 100 percent solids grey polyisobutylene compound sealing tape with release paper backing. Provide permanently elastic, non-sag, non-toxic, non-staining tape not less than ½” wide and 1/8” thick.
Joint Sealants: Provide one-part elastomeric polyurethane polysulfide or silicone rubber sealant as recommended by the building manufacturer.
MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS:
Internal Panel Framing: Manufacturer's standard.
Fasteners: Manufacturer's standard noncorrosive types, with exterior heads gasketed.
Accessories: Except as indicated as work of another specification section, provide components required for a complete roofing/siding system, including trim, copings, fascias, gravel stops, mullions, sills, corner units, ridge vents and closures, clips, seam covers, battens, flashings, gutters, downspouts, louvers, sealants, gaskets, fillers, closure strips and similar items. Match materials/finishes of preformed panels.

SUPPORT SYSTEM
Retrofit Roof System Secondary Framing:
Provide not less than 16-ga. shop painted rolled formed sections for the following secondary framing members unless shown otherwise on the drawings.

Bolts: Provide ASTM A307 bolts. Provide zinc-plated or cadmium-plated bolts when structural framing components are in direct contact with roofing panels. Primary connections to be made with ASTM A325 bolts.
Shop Painting: Clean surfaces to be primed of loose mill scale, rust, dirt, oil, grease, and other matter precluding paint bond. Follow procedures of SSPC-SP3 for power tool cleaning, SSPC-SP7 for brush-off blast cleaning, and SSPC-SPI for solvent cleaning. Provide factory coat on all.
Prime galvanized members, after phosphoric acid pretreatment with manufacturer’s standard zinc dust-zinc oxide primer.

Manufacturer may provide lighter gauge purlins or studs provided they meet design load requirements specified and determined by manufacturer’s engineer.
INSULATION
Retrofit Roof System Insulation:
One layer of Unfaced batt insulation and shall have a density of 0.6 PCF and shall be 2” inches thick Nominal placed. The adhesive and glass fiber blanket shall have a flame spread rating of 25 or less, smoke developed of 50 or less determined by ASTM E-84, UL723. Insulation shall be attached to in strict compliance with UL 90 requirements or manufactures requirements to meet wind uplift codes.
Replacement Roof System Insulation: - The following manufacturers' productshave been used to establish minimum standards for materials, workmanship and function:

4. Roof Insulation: a. Formaldehyde-free fiberglass batt or fiberglass blanket complying
with ASTM C 991 Type 1 and ASTM E 84 with a thermal resistance and thickness as follows:
1) Upper Layer: R-11; 3-1/2 inches (89 mm).
2) Bottom Layer: R-19; 6 inches (152 mm). 5. Vapor Barrier Liner Fabric:

16. Roof Insulation Installation:a. Straps:
1) Cut straps to length and install in the pattern and spacings indicated on shop drawings.
2) Tension straps to required value. b. Vapor Barrier Fabric:
1) Install vapor barrier fabric in large one-piece custom fabricated pieces to substantially fit defined building areas with minimum practicable job site sealing.
2) Position pre-folded fabric on the strap platform along one eave purlin.
3) Clamp the two bottom corners at the eave and also centered on the bay.

4) Pull the other end of the pleat-folded fabric across the building width on the strap platform, pausing only at the ridge to fasten the straps and fabric in position where plane of roof changes and to release temporary fasteners on the opposite ridge purlins.
5) Once positioned, install fasteners from the bottom side at each strap/purlins intersection.
6) Trim edges and seal along the rafters. 7) All seams must be completely sealed and stapled seams not
acceptable. c. Insulation:
1) Unpack, and shake to a thickness exceeding the specified thickness.
2) Ensure that cavities are filled completely with insulation. 3) Place on the vapor barrier liner fabric without voids or gaps. 4) Place top layer of insulation over and perpendicular to the
purlins without voids or gaps, as roof sheathing is applied. 5) Place thermal block on top of purlins or bottom of purlins for
retrofit work, if no other thermal break exists. 6) Place new insulation between purlins at the required
thickness for the R-value specified. d. Seal vapor barrier fabric to the wall fabric and elsewhere as
required to provide a continuous vapor barrier. 17. Vapor Barrier Fabric:
1) Install vapor barrier fabric in large one-piece custom fabricated pieces to substantially fit defined building areas with minimum practicable job site sealing.
2) Apply the vapor barrier fabric by clamping it in position over eave strap and installing fasteners through the eave strap into each roof strap, permanently clamping the wall fabric between them.
3) Once in position, draw the vapor barrier fabric down over the column flanges to the base angle and install vertical straps along each column and 5 feet 0 inches on center, maximum, fastening to each girt to retain system permanently in place.
4) All seams must be completely sealed and stapled seams not acceptable.
18. Seal wall fabric to the roof fabric, to the base angle and up the columns to provide a continuous vapor barrier.

General: Provide coated steel sheet metal accessories with coated steel roofing panels.
Roof Jacks: Openings 8” in diameter or smaller may be flashed and sealed to the roof panel by jacks. Material shall be an EPDM material with an aluminum sealing ring base.
Jacks are acceptable providing attachment in flat of panel and no standing seam rib has been altered. If rib must be cut, a curb must be used. Installation of roof jacks must comply with manufacturer’s instructions.
Roof Curbs: The roof curb units shall be fabricated to the specifications of the roofing manufacturer, thus assuring its compatibility with the roof constructions framing and covering. Roof curbs shall be of size and design to accommodate the various projecting elements to be retained. The contractor is responsible for verification of the various sizes, configurations, and requirements. It is expected that the contractor use the existing conditions, surfaces, and elements as a source material for these requirements. The roof curb shall be of size and design required for fan, vent or air conditioning equipment.
It shall support the specific ventilating device in a nominally horizontal position above the weather surface of the roof and adequately deflect storm drainage around its periphery. All sealants, closures and fasteners, etc. shall be included for proper installation and performance. Roof sub-framing and/or headers shall be provided for additional rigidity and support of the curb and its ventilating device. Roof vent curb and supporting framing shall provide for expected expansion and contraction of roof panels.
Storage and Handling: Insulation must be kept dry before, during and after application. Outside storage must be off ground and protected by a breathable waterproof covering. If insulation becomes wet, it must be dried before installation. Insulation must be roofed same day as laid.
Consult manufacturer for specific installation instructions and standards for good roofing practices.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
INSTALLATION:
General: Comply with panel fabricator's and material manufacturer's instructions and recommendations for installation, as applicable to project conditions and supporting substrates. Anchor panels and other components of the work securely in place, with provisions for thermal/structural movement.

Installation Tolerances: Shim and align panel units within installed tolerance of 1/4" in 20'-0" on level/plumb/slope and location/line as indicated, and within 1/8" offset of adjoining faces and of alignment of matching profiles.
Joint Sealers: Install gaskets, joint fillers and sealants where indicated and where required for weatherproof performance of panel systems. Provide types of gaskets and sealants/fillers indicated or, if not otherwise indicated, types recommended by panel manufacturer.
Refer to other sections of these specifications for product and installation requirements applicable to indicated joint sealers.Water shall be prevented from entering the building during the work. This shall involve keeping penetrations sealed, planning the work to reroof sections and sealing new to old or other precautionary and effective safeguards.
ROOFING:
General: Arrange and nest sidelap joints so that prevailing winds blow over, not into, lapped joints. Apply panels and associated items for neat and weathertight enclosure. Avoid “panel creep” or application not true to line. Protect factory finishes from damage.
1. Provide weatherseal under ridge cap. Flash and seal roof panels at eave and rake with rubber, neoprene or other closures to exclude weather.
Standing Seam Roof Panel System: Fasten roof panels with concealed clip in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
1. Install clips at each support using self-drilling fasteners.2. At end laps of panels install two strips of tape caulk between panels.3. Install factory-caulked cleats at standing seam joints. Machine seam
cleats to the panels to provide a weather-tight joint.

CLEANING AND PROTECTION:
Damaged Units: Replace panels and other components of the work which have been damaged or have deteriorated beyond successful repair by means of finish touch-up or similar minor repair procedures.

PART 1 – GENERAL
RELATED DOCUMENTS:

DESCRIPTION
The roofing contractor shall be fully knowledgeable of all requirements of the contract documents and shall make themselves aware of all job site conditions prior to the bid that will affect their work.
Provide all labor, tools, equipment, and supervision necessary to furnish and install a 60 mil white reinforced TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) membrane or a 60 mil PVC (polyvinyl chloride) membrane as follows:
Classroom Building
Proposal “A”
1. The Contractor shall power broom the existing entire roofing area. All roof areas shall be cleaned prior to installation of new roofing materials.
2. The Contractor shall then mechanically attach, in accordance with the manufacturer's most current specifications and details, a flat layer of 1/2” layer of 100 psi. ISO SecureShield HD board over the entire existing roofing material.
3. The Contractor shall then fully adhere a 60 mil white reinforced TPO or 60 mil PVC Membrane over the new cover board. The membrane shall be fully adhered in accordance with the manufacturer's most current specifications and details.
4. The Kitchen roof are MUST be 60 mil PVC membrane. 5. Contractor shall install 60 mil TPO or 60 mil PVC membrane flashings
and associated metal components as required and detailed.6. Contractor shall provide a 20-year NDL manufacturer’s warranty and the
5-year Building Commission Contractor’s workmanship warranty. 7. Provide and install new guard rails per plans and specifications.
8. Remove all existing gutters and downspouts and provide and install new
gutters and downspouts as indicated on drawings and specified in this section.
9. Replace all metal coping as indicated on drawings and specified in this section.

SUBMITTALS
Prior to starting work, the roofing contractor must submit the following:1. Shop drawings showing layout of insulation, details of construction and
identification of materials.2. Sample of the manufacturer's Membrane System Warranty.3. Submit a letter of certification from the manufacturer which certifies the
roofing contractor is authorized to install the manufacturer's roofing system.
4. Certification of the manufacturer's warranty reserve.
Upon completion of the installed work, submit copies of the manufacturer's final inspection to the specifier prior to the issuance of the manufacturer's warranty.
PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
Deliver materials to the job site in the manufacturer's original, unopened containers or wrappings with the manufacturer's name, brand name and installation instructions intact and legible. Deliver in sufficient quantity to permit work to continue without interruption.Comply with the manufacturer's written instructions for proper material storage.
1. Store the TPO or PVC membrane in the original undisturbed plastic wrap in a cool, shaded area and cover with light-colored, breathable, waterproof tarpaulins. Thermoplastic membrane that has been exposed to the elements for approximately seven (7) days must be prepared with appropriate cleaner prior to hot air welding.
2. Store curable materials (adhesives and sealants) between 60°F and 80°F in dry areas protected from water and direct sunlight. If exposed to lower temperature, restore to 60°F minimum temperature before using.
3. Store materials containing solvents in dry, well ventilated spaces with proper fire and safety precautions. Keep lids on tight. Use before expiration of their shelf life.
4. Insulation must be on pallets, off the ground and tightly covered with waterproof materials.
5. Any materials, which are found to be damaged, shall be removed and replaced at the applicator's expense.
WORK SEQUENCE
Schedule and execute work to prevent leaks and excessive traffic on completed roof sections. Care should be exercised to provide protection for the interior of the building and to ensure water does not flow beneath any completed sections of the membrane system.
Do not disrupt activities in occupied spaces.

JOB SITE PROTECTION
The roofing contractor shall adequately protect building, paved areas, service drives, lawn, shrubs, trees, etc. from damage while performing the required work. Provide all materials as necessary for protection and remove protection material at completion. The contractor shall repair or be responsible for costs to repair all property damaged during the roofing application.
During the roofing contractor's performance of the work, the building owner will continue to occupy the existing building. The contractor shall take precautions to prevent the spread of dust and debris, particularly where such material may sift into the building.
The roofing contractor shall provide labor and materials to construct, maintain and remove necessary temporary enclosures to prevent dust or debris in the construction area(s) from entering the remainder of the building.
Do not overload any portion of the building, by either use of or placement of equipment, storage of debris, or storage of materials.
Protect against fire and flame spread. Maintain proper and adequate fire extinguishers.
Take precautions to prevent drains from clogging during the roofing application.
Remove debris at the completion of each day's work and clean drains, if required. At completion, test drains to ensure the system is free running and drains are watertight. Remove strainers and plug drains in areas where work is in progress. Install flags or other telltales on plugs. Remove plugs each night and screen drain.
Store moisture susceptible materials above ground and protect with waterproof coverings.
Remove all traces of piled bulk materials and return the job site to its original condition upon completion of the work.
SAFETY
The roofing contractor shall be responsible for all means and methods as they relate to safety and shall comply with all applicable local, state, and federal requirements that are safety related. Safety shall be the responsibility of the roofing contractor. All related personnel shall be instructed daily to be mindful of the full time requirement to maintain a safe environment for the facility's occupants including staff, visitors, customers, and the occurrence of the public on or near the site.

WORKMANSHIP
Applicators installing new roof, flashing and related work shall be factory trained and approved by the manufacturer they are representing.
All work shall be of highest quality and in strict accordance with the manufacturer's published specifications and to the building owner's satisfaction.
There shall be a supervisor on the job site at all times while work is in progress.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
The roofing contractor shall be fully knowledgeable of all requirements of the contract documents and shall make themselves aware of all job site conditions prior to the bid that will affect their work.
The Contractor will provide an approved and certified independent third party inspection firm. The inspection firm will provide a certificate of compliance in a start up, in progress and final inspection mode, certifying that the roof system will be approved to
receive a 20 year extended manufacturers warranty. Recognized approved independent firm will consist of:

Roof system will meet the requirements of all federal, state and local code bodies having jurisdiction.
The membrane roofing system must achieve a UL Class A and the appropriate FM rating.
Unless otherwise noted in this specification, the roofing contractor must strictly comply with the manufacturer's current specifications and details.
Impact Resistance: Roof coverings installed on low-slope roofs (roof slope <2:12) shall resist impact damage based on the results of tests conducted in accordance with ASTM D 3746, ASTM D 4272, CGSB 37-GP-52M or the “Resistance to Foot Traffic Test “FM 4470.

Drainage: Provide a roof system with positive drainage where all standing water dissipates within 48 hours after precipitation ends.
Roof Drain Bowls:
The General Contractor shall remove all existing roof drain strainer caps and replace with new strainer caps. The Contractor shall furnish and install a new drain bowl insert into the existing bowls prior to installation of the strainer cap. The General Contractor shall verify the existing drain line is clear prior to the installation of the new roof bowl and cap assembly per roof drain inspection, testing and verification procedures.
Roof drain inspection, testing and verification:
a. Prior to work start, the contractor shall obtain the services of a licensed plumber. Verify that primary roof drains, overflow roof drains, and plumbing vents located within the project area are free of debris and properly functioning. The plumber shall perform a flood test of existing roof drains located in the project areas. The flood test shall include testing of existing roof drain bowls and connections to piping by temporarily plugging the drain pipe below the existing connection and flooding the drain bowl to its top edge. Notify the Architect immediately if defects are found in the roof drain bowl and/or roof drain assembly components, or if the roof drains and/or plumbing vents are found to be blocked, clogged, or otherwise not properly functioning. Plumbing work necessary to correct identified defects, and clear existing roof drains and vents shall be performed by a licensed plumber at the direction of the Architect. Prior to construction start, the contractor shall provide a letter to the Owner indicating this work has been completed, detailing the results of this roof drain inspection and testing, and identifying any corrective action needed.
b. After completion of roof replacement work, the contractor shall again obtain the services of a licensed plumber. Verify that primary roof drains, overflow roof drains and plumbing vents located within the project area are free of debris and properly functioning. The plumber shall perform a second flood test of existing roof drains located in the project areas. The flood test shall include testing of the new roof drain bowls and connections by temporarily plugging the drain pipe below the existing connection and flooding the drain bowl to its top edge. Note any defects in the roof drain bowl. Continue to flood the roof drain, up and over the installed roof drain flashing. Note any leakage at the roof drain flashing. Notify the architect immediately if defects are found in the roof drain flashing, roof drain bowl and/or roof drain assembly components, or if the roof drains and/or plumbing vents are found to be blocked, clogged, or otherwise not properly functioning. Plumbing work necessary to correct identified defects, and clear existing roof drains and vents shall be performed by a licensed plumber at the direction of the architect. After construction completion, the contractor shall

provide a second letter to the architect indicating this work has been completed, detailing the results of this roof drain inspection and testing, and identifying any corrective action needed.
All roof curbs and penetrations shall have a minimum height of 8” above the completed roof system.
Roof curbs shall be installed in accordance with roofing system manufactures instructions. Unless otherwise noted in this specification, the roofing contractor must strictly comply with the manufacturer's current specifications and details.
The roofing system must be installed by an applicator certified, authorized and
trained by the manufacturer in compliance with shop drawings as approved by
the Architect /owners representative.
Provide adequate number of experienced workers regularly engaged in this type of work who are skilled in the application techniques of the materials specified. Provide at least one thoroughly trained and experienced superintendent on the job at all times roofing work is in progress.
There shall be no deviations made from this specification or the approved shop drawings without the prior written approval of the Architect. Any deviation from the manufacturer's installation procedures must be supported by a written certification on the manufacturer's letterhead and presented for the Architects consideration.
Upon completion of the installation, the applicator shall arrange for an inspection to be made by a non-sales technical representative of the membrane manufacturer in order to determine whether corrective work will be required before the warranty will be issued. Notify the Architect and General Contractor seventy-two (72) hours prior to the manufacturer's final inspection.
JOB CONDITIONS, CAUTIONS, AND WARNINGS
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) must be on location at all times during the transportation, storage, and application of materials.
When positioning membrane sheets, exercise care to locate all field splices away from low spots and out of drain sumps. All field splices should be shingled to prevent bucking of water.
When loading materials onto the roof, the Authorized Roofing Applicator must comply with the requirements of the building owner to prevent overloading and possible disturbance to the building structure.
Proceed with roofing work only when weather conditions comply with the

manufacturer's recommended limitations, and when conditions will permit the work to proceed in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements and recommendations.Proceed with work so new roofing materials are not subject to construction traffic. When necessary, new roof sections shall be protected and inspected upon completion for possible damage.
Provide protection, such as 3/4 inch thick plywood, for all roof areas exposed to traffic during construction. Plywood must be smooth and free of fasteners and splinters.
The surface on which the insulation or roofing membrane is to be applied shall be clean, smooth, dry, and free of projections or contaminants that would prevent proper application of or be incompatible with the new installation, such as fins, sharp edges, foreign materials, oil and grease.
New roofing shall be complete and weather tight at the end of the workday.Contaminants such as grease, fats, and oils shall not be allowed to come in direct contact with the roofing membrane.
PRE-ROOFING CONFERENCE
A pre-roofing conference is required before any roofing materials are installed. This conference shall be conducted by a representative of the Architect and attended by representatives of the Owner, Building Commission Inspector, General Contractor, Roofing Contractor, Sheet Metal Contractor, Roof Deck Manufacturer (if applicable), and the Roofing Materials Manufacturer (if warranty is required of this manufacturer). If equipment of substantial size is to be placed on the roof, the Mechanical Contractor must also attend this meeting. Provide at least 72 hours advance notice to participants prior to convening pre-roofing conference.
The pre-roofing conference is intended to clarify demolition and application requirements for work to be completed before roofing operations can begin. This would include a detailed review of the specifications, roof plans, roof deck information, flashing details, and approved shop drawings, submittal data, and samples. If conflict exists between the specifications and the Manufacturer’s requirements, this shall be resolved. If this pre-roofing conference cannot be satisfactorily concluded without further inspection and investigation by any of the parties present, it shall be reconvened at the earliest possible time to avoid delay of the work. In no case should the work proceed without inspection of all roof deck areas and substantial agreement on all points.
The following are to be accomplished during the conference:
1. To review all Factory Mutual and Underwriters Laboratories requirements listed in the specifications and resolve any questions or conflicts that may arise.

2. To establish trade-related job schedules, including the installation of roof-mounted mechanical equipment.
3. To establish roofing schedule and work methods that will prevent roof damage.
4. Require that all roof penetrations and walls be in place prior to installing the roof.
5. To establish those areas on the job site that will be designated as work and storage areas for roofing operations.
6. To establish weather and working temperature conditions to which all parties must agree.
7. To establish acceptable methods of protecting the finished roof if any trades must travel across or work on or above any areas of the finished roof.
The Architect shall prepare a written report indicating actions taken and decisions made at this pre-roofing conference. This report shall be made a part of the project record and copies furnished the Building Commission Inspector, General Contract and the Owner.
WARRANTY
Compatibility: Provide products which are recommended by manufacturers to be fully compatible with indicated substrates, or provide separation materials as required to eliminate contact between incompatible materials.
Provide manufacturer's 20-year NDL total system warranty covering both labor
and material with no dollar limitation and cover all penetrations. Pro-rated system warranties shall not be accepted.
Evidence of the manufacturer's warranty reserve shall be included as part of the project submittals for the specifier's approval.Contractor shall furnish standard Building Commission 5 year Guarantee.
All roof warranty’s shall be provided to the Owner, by the Contractor at the Final Inspection to obtain the Substantial Completion.
The roof insulation shall be covered under the roof warranty as required by the manufacture.
Standard manufacturer’s roofing guarantees which contain language regarding the governing of the guarantee by any state other than the State of Alabama, must be amended to exclude such language, and substituting the requirement that the Laws of the State of Alabama shall govern all such guarantees.
The roofing manufacture shall be required to provide documentation certifying that the

roof design provided complies with the performance requirements as set forth in IBC Chapter 15, Section 1504. The documentation shall be attached to the roof warranty at the close out of the project.

Equal products of other manufacturers may be used in the work, provided such products have been approved by the Architect, not less than five (10) days prior to scheduled bid opening.
GENERAL
All components of the specified roofing system shall be products of the
manufacturer of the roofing system or accepted by the manufacturer as
compatible. All products (including insulation, fasteners, fastening plates and
edgings) must be manufactured and supplied by the roofing system manufacturer
and covered by the warranty.
ADHESIVES AND CLEANERS
All products shall be furnished by the roofing manufacturer and specifically formulated for the intended purpose.

The Contractor shall be responsible for ensuring all existing curbs / flashings shall be raised as necessary to ensure proper flashing heights.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
GENERAL
Comply with the manufacturer's published instructions for the installation of the membrane roofing system including proper substrate preparation, jobsite considerations, and weather restrictions.
Position sheets to accommodate contours of the roof deck and shingle splices to avoid bucking water.
INSULATION PLACEMENT AND ATTACHMENT
Install insulation or membrane underlayment over the substrate with boards butted tightly together with no joints or gaps greater than 1/4 inch. Stagger joints both horizontally and vertically if multiple layers are provided.
Secure insulation to the substrate with the required fasteners and plates in accordance with manufacturers specifications.
60 Mil TPO or 60 Mil PVC MEMBRANE PLACEMENT AND ATTACHMENT
1. Unroll and position membrane without stretching. Provide and secure both perimeter and field membrane sheets in accordance with the manufacturer's most current specifications and details.
2. Secure the membrane with the required Adhesives, Fasteners and Plates spaced as required per the manufacturer’s requirements to meet the appropriate uplift.
3. Install adjoining membrane sheets in the same manner in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Hot air weld the membrane using an Automatic Hot Air Welding Machine or Hot Air Hand Welder in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. At all splice intersections, roll the seam with a silicone roller prior to membrane seam cooling. All splice intersections shall be overlaid with membrane non-reinforced flashing

5. Probe all seams once the hot air welds have thoroughly cooled (approximately 30 minutes).
6. Repair all seam deficiencies the same day they are discovered.7. Apply Cut Edge Sealant on all cut edges of reinforced membrane (where
the scrim reinforcement is exposed) after seam probing is complete.
FLASHING
Flashing of parapets, curbs, expansion joints and other parts of the roof must be performed using PVC reinforced membrane. Non-reinforced membrane can be used for flashing pipe penetrations, Sealant Pockets, scuppers, as well as inside and outside corners when the use of pre-fabricated accessories is not feasible.
Follow manufacturer's typical flashing procedures for all wall, curb, and penetration flashing including metal edging/coping and roof drain applications.
WALKWAYS
Install walkways at all traffic concentration points (such as roof hatches, access doors, rooftop ladders, etc.) and all locations as identified on the drawings.
Hot air weld walkway pads to the membrane in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
DAILY SEAL
On phased roofing, when the completion of flashings and terminations is not achieved by the end of the workday, a daily seal must be performed to close temporarily the membrane to prevent water infiltration.
Complete an acceptable membrane seal in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements.
CLEAN UP
Perform daily clean up to collect all wrappings, empty containers, paper, and other debris from the project site. Upon completion, all debris must be disposed of in a legally acceptable manner.
Prior to the manufacturer's inspection for warranty, the applicator must perform a pre-inspection to review all work and to verify all flashing has been completed as well as the application of all caulking.

SECTION 07530 - MODIFIED BITUMINOUS SHEET ROOFING SYSTEM
PART 1 – GENERAL
RELATED DOCUMENTS:
Drawing and general provisions of Contract including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification sections apply to work of this section.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Extent of modified bituminous sheet roofing is indicated on drawings.
The roofing contractor shall be fully knowledgeable of all requirements of the contract documents and shall make themselves aware of all job site conditions prior to the bid that will affect their work.
Provide all labor, tools, equipment, and supervision necessary to furnish and install a Hot-Mopped, Modified Bitumen Sheet Roofing System (MBSR) White surface color as follows:
Classroom Building
Proposal “B”
1. The Contractor shall remove the existing BUR system and associated flashing components down to the existing decking.
2. Ensure the existing roof deck is clean, dry, and free of any voids. (Note: The existing roof deck slopes 1/8” per foot.)
3. Contractor is to notify the Architect of any damaged / deteriorated roof decking prior to replacement. If directed by the Architect, the contractor shall replace additional damaged portions of the decking per the Unit Price on the proposal form.
4. Install one (1) layer of 4” (R22.24) tapered polyisocyanurate insulation
and 1 layer of 1/2”, 100 psi. ISO HD board (R2.78) over the tapered
polyisocyanurate roof insulation (minimum total R value of 25 at any area), mechanically attach with heavy duty fasteners and 3” disk plates (I-90 attachment methods).
5. The Contractor shall then install a Hot-Mopped, Modified Bitumen Sheet Roofing System (MBSR) White surface color.
6. Contractor shall install flashings and associated metal components as required and detailed.
7. Contractor shall provide a 20-year NDL manufacturer’s warranty and the 5-year Building Commission Contractor’s workmanship warranty.
8. Provide and install new guard rails as per plans and specifications.

9. Replace all gutters and downspouts as indicated on drawings and specified in this section.
10. Replace all metal coping as indicated on drawings and specified in this section.
Roof insulation related to modified bituminous sheet roofing is specified in this section.
QUALITY ASSURANCE:
The Contractor will provide an approved and certified independent third party inspection firm. The inspection firm will provide a certificate of compliance in a start up, in progress and final inspection mode, certifying that the roof system will be approved to receive a 5year manufacturers warranty. Manufacturer: Obtain primary MBSR roofing from a single manufacturer. Provide secondary materials as recommended by manufacturer of primary materials.
Installer: A firm with not less than 5 years of successful experience in installation of roofing systems similar to those required for this project and which is acceptable to or licensed by manufacturer of primary roofing materials for the specified system.
1. Assign work closely associated with modified bituminous roofing, including (but not limited to) vapor retarders, insulation, flashing and counterflashing, expansion joints, and joint sealers, to Installer of modified bituminous sheet roofing.
Insurance Certification: Assist Owner in preparation and submittal of roof installation acceptance certification necessary in connection with fire and extended coverage insurance on roofing and associated work.
Thermal Resistivity: Where thermal resistivity properties of insulating materials are designed by r-values, they represent the rate of heat flow through a homogenous material exactly 1" thick, measured by test method included in referenced material

standard or otherwise indicated. They are expressed by the temperature difference in degrees F between the two exposed faces required to cause one BTU to flow through one square foot per hour at mean temperature indicated.
Impact Resistance: Roof coverings installed on low-slope roofs (roof slope <2:12) shall resist impact damage based on the results of tests conducted in accordance with ASTM D 3746, ASTM D 4272, CGSB 37-GP-52M or the “Resistance to Foot Traffic Test “ FM 4470.
Fire Performance Characteristics: Provide insulation materials which are identical to those whose fire performance characteristics, as listed for each material or assembly of which insulation is a part, have been determined by testing, per methods indicated below, by UL or other testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction:
1. Surface Burning Characteristics: ASTM E 84.2. Fire Resistance Ratings: ASTM E 119.3. Combustibility Characteristics: ASTM E 136.
Conform to applicable code for roof assembly fire hazard requirements.
1. Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL): Class A Fire Hazard Classification2. Factory Mutual Engineering Corp. (FM): Roof assembly Classification, of
Class 1 Construction, wind uplift requirement of I-90.
Drainage: Provide a roof system with positive drainage where all standing water dissipates within 48 hours after precipitation ends.
Roof Drain Bowls:
The General Contractor shall remove all existing roof drain strainer caps and replace with new strainer caps. The Contractor shall furnish and install a new drain bowl insert into the existing bowls prior to installation of the strainer cap. The General Contractor shall verify the existing drain line is clear prior to the installation of the new roof bowl and cap assembly per roof drain inspection, testing and verification procedures.
Roof drain inspection, testing and verification:
a. Prior to work start, the contractor shall obtain the services of a licensed plumber. Verify that primary roof drains, overflow roof drains, and plumbing vents located within the project area are free of debris and properly functioning. The plumber shall perform a flood test of existing roof drains located in the project areas. The flood test shall include testing of existing roof drain bowls and connections to piping by temporarily plugging the drain pipe below the existing connection and flooding the drain bowl to its top edge. Notify the Architect

immediately if defects are found in the roof drain bowl and/or roof drain assembly components, or if the roof drains and/or plumbing vents are found to be blocked, clogged, or otherwise not properly functioning. Plumbing work necessary to correct identified defects, and clear existing roof drains and vents shall be performed by a licensed plumber at the direction of the Architect. Prior to construction start, the contractor shall provide a letter to the Owner indicating this work has been completed, detailing the results of this roof drain inspection and testing, and identifying any corrective action needed.
b. After completion of roof replacement work, the contractor shall again obtain the services of a licensed plumber. Verify that primary roof drains, overflow roof drains and plumbing vents located within the project area are free of debris and properly functioning. The plumber shall perform a second flood test of existing roof drains located in the project areas. The flood test shall include testing of the new roof drain bowls and connections by temporarily plugging the drain pipe below the existing connection and flooding the drain bowl to its top edge. Note any defects in the roof drain bowl. Continue to flood the roof drain, up and over the installed roof drain flashing. Note any leakage at the roof drain flashing. Notify the architect immediately if defects are found in the roof drain flashing, roof drain bowl and/or roof drain assembly components, or if the roof drains and/or plumbing vents are found to be blocked, clogged, or otherwise not properly functioning. Plumbing work necessary to correct identified defects, and clear existing roof drains and vents shall be performed by a licensed plumber at the direction of the architect. After construction completion, the contractor shall provide a second letter to the architect indicating this work has been completed, detailing the results of this roof drain inspection and testing, and identifying any corrective action needed.
SUBMITTALS:
Product Data: Submit specifications, installation instructions and general recommendations from manufacturers of modified bituminous sheet roofing system materials, for types of roofing required. Include data substantiating that materials comply with requirements.
Samples: Submit 12" square samples of finished roofing sheets, including side/end-lap seam.
1. Submit 12" square samples of vapor retarder and slip sheet (if any).2. Submit 12" square samples of required insulation.3. Indicate layout of tempered insulation materials, if any.

JOB CONDITIONS:
Weather: Proceed with roofing work when existing and forecasted weather conditions permit work to be performed in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and warranty requirements.
WARRANTY:
Provide 20 year manufacturer's no-dollar limit guarantee. (Total System Coverage).
Manufacturer’s Warranty: Provide 20 year Total Systems coverage warranty from roofing manufacturer. Warranty shall cover leaks which result from either material or workmanship defects, shall not be subject to a deductible, and shall not be prorated. Warranty coverage shall include repairs to the roofing system to the extent necessary to return the roofing system to a watertight condition.
Standard manufacturer’s roofing guarantees which contain language regarding the governing of the guarantee by any state other than the State of Alabama, must be amended to exclude such language and substituting the requirement that the Laws of the State of Alabama shall govern all such guarantees.
The roofing manufacture shall be required to provide documentation certifying that the roof design provided complies with the performance requirements as set forth in IBC Chapter 15, Section 1504. The documentation shall be attached to the roof warranty at the close out of the project.
Compatibility: Provide products which are recommended by manufacturers to be fully compatible with indicated substrates or provide separation materials as required to eliminate contact between incompatible materials.
All roof warranties shall be provided to the Owner, by the Contractor at the Final Inspection to obtain the Substantial Completion.
SPECIAL PROJECT WARRANTY:
Contractor shall furnish standard Building Commission 5 year Guarantee.
PART 2 – MATERIALS
MODIFIED BITUMEN SHEET ROOFING SYSTEM:
Manufacturers: The following manufacturers’ products have been used to establish minimum standards for materials, workmanship and function:

TAMKO, Asphalt Product Spec 108 FR AWAPLAN Premium, with 20 Year “Total System Coverage” Warranty from manufacturer.
MANVILLE, 3CID, Dyna Kap FR, modified to include a total of 3 layers of Type IV felt (in lieu of two layers of Type VI felt) with 20 Year “No Dollar Limit” Warranty from manufacturer.
GAF, I-3-1-MGPFR, Rubberoid MB with 20 Year “Rubberoid MB Liberty Twenty” Warranty.
Equal products of other manufacturers may be used in the work, provided such products have been approved by the Architect, not less than Ten (10) days prior to scheduled bid opening.
Substitutions: An equal system of manufacturer approved by Architect 10 days prior to bid, under provisions of General Conditions of the Contract and Supplemental General Conditions may be used. Equal system shall include equal warranty. Cap sheet color shall be white.
MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS FOR MBSR:
Cant Strips, Tapered Edge Strips and Flashing Accessories: Types recommended by manufacturer of MBSR material, provided at locations indicated and at locations recommended by mfr., including adhesive tapes, flashing cements, and sealants.
Slip Sheet: Type recommended by manufacturer of MBSR material for protection of membrane from incompatible substrates.
Mechanical Fasteners: Metal plates, caps, battens, accessory components, fastening devices, and adhesives to suit substrate and as recommended by MBSR membrane manufacturer.
INSULATING MATERIALS
Provide tapered insulating board meeting the following R-value that complies with manufacturer’s requirements for 20 year manufacturer’s no-dollar-limit guarantee, in sizes to fit application indicated. See roof plan for these areas. Insulation shall be tapered. R-value at all new roof areas shall be a minimum of R-25.

PART 3 – EXECUTION
Pre-Roofing Conference:
A pre-roofing conference is required before any roofing materials are installed. This conference shall be conducted by a representative of the Architect and attended by representatives of the Owner, Owners Roofing Consultant, Building Commission Inspector, General Contractor, Roofing Contractor, Sheet Metal Contractor, Roof Deck Manufacturer (if applicable), and the Roofing Materials Manufacturer (if warranty is required of this manufacturer). If equipment of substantial size is to be placed on the roof, the Mechanical Contractor must also attend this meeting. Provide at least 72 hours advance notice to participants prior to convening pre-roofing conference.
The pre-roofing conference is intended to clarify demolition and application requirements for work to be completed before roofing operations can begin. This would include a detailed review of the specifications, roof plans, roof deck information, flashing details, and approved shop drawings, submittal data, and samples. If conflict exists between the specifications and the Manufacturer’s requirements, this shall be resolved. If this pre-roofing conference cannot be satisfactorily concluded without further inspection and investigation by any of the parties present, it shall be reconvened at the earliest possible time to avoid delay of the work. In no case should the work proceed without inspection of all roof deck areas and substantial agreement on all points.
The following are to be accomplished during the conference:

1. To review all Factory Mutual and Underwriters Laboratories requirements listed in the specifications and resolve any questions or conflicts that may arise.
2. To establish trade-related job schedules, including the installation of roof-mounted mechanical equipment.
3. To establish roofing schedule and work methods that will prevent roof damage.
4. Require that all roof penetrations and walls be in place prior to installing the roof.
5. To establish those areas on the job site that will be designated as work and storage areas for roofing operations.
6. To establish weather and working temperature conditions to which all parties must agree.
7. To establish acceptable methods of protecting the finished roof if any trades must travel across or work on or above any areas of the finished roof.
The Architect shall prepare a written report indicating actions taken and decisions made at this pre-roofing conference. This report shall be made a part of the project record and copies furnished the General Contractor, the Owner, the Building Commission, and the Building Commission Inspector."
PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATE:
General: Comply with manufacturer's instructions for preparation of substrate to receive MBSR system.
Examine substrate surfaces to receive MBSR roofing system and associated work and conditions under which roofing will be installed. Do not proceed with roofing until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in a manner acceptable to Installer.
1. Verify that deck is securely fastened with no projecting fasteners and with no adjacent units in excess of 1/16" out of plane.
Clean substrate of dust, debris, and other substances detrimental to MBSR system work. Remove sharp projections.
INSTALLATION:
General: Comply with manufacturer's instructions, except where more stringent requirements are indicated.
INSULATION INSTALLATION
General: Insulation is required. Extend insulation full thickness in two layers, or in multiple layers over entire surface to be insulated, cutting and fitting tightly around

obstructions. Form cant strips, crickets, saddles and tapered areas with additional material as shown and as required for proper drainage of membrane.
1. Stagger all joints in one direction for each course. For multiple layers, stagger joints both directions between courses. Comply with roofing system manufacturer’s recommendations.
Do not install more insulation each day than can be covered with membrane before end of day and before start of inclement weather.
Set units in adhesive, applied in accordance with requirements of applicable fire and insurance ratings.
Secure roof insulation with coated mechanical fasteners as required by Manufacturer.FELT INSTALLATION
Install 3 plies of Type IV felt, hot mopped with type and quantity of asphalt recommended by and in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
MBSR INSTALLATION:
Hot-Mopped MBSR: Install MBSR over prepared substrate, lapping adjoining sheets as recommended by manufacturer and bonding and sealing seams.

General Description of Work
The work covered by this section shall include furnishings and installing Aluminum Canopy, decking, fascia, downspouts and concrete footings. The canopy shall consist of structural aluminum panels bound by a framework of fascia which also acts as a water collecting gutter. All components shall be as required to support design loads in accordance with engineering prints and calculations provided by the manufacturer, sizes shown on the drawings are for diagrammatical purposes only.

SUBMITTALS
Product Data: Submit manufacturer’s product information, specifications and installation instructions for components and accessories.
Shop Drawings: Submit complete erection drawings showing attachment system, column and gutter beam framing, transverse cross sections, covering and trim details, and option installation details to clearly indicate proper assembly of components. Detailed shop drawings shall be submitted: Submit written Certification prepared and signed by a State Registered Structural Engineer verifying that framing design will safely resist wind uplift as computed by ANSI A58.1, IV=150, Exposure C, as well as

Codes and Standards: Comply with provisions of the following except as otherwise indicated: Standard building code, latest addition with amendments, if any. AWS (American Welding Society) standards for structural aluminum welding.
Manufacturer: Obtain aluminum covered walkway system from only one (1) manufacturer, although several may be indicated as offering products complying with requirements.
Installer Qualifications: Firm with not less than three (3) years’ experience in installation of aluminum walkway covers of type, quantity and installation methods similar to work of this section.
Field Measurements: Take field measurements prior to preparation of shop drawings and fabrication where possible, to insure proper fitting of work.
Coordination: Coordinate work of this section with work of other sections which interface with covered walkway system (sidewalk, curbs, building fascia, etc.).
WARRANTY
Provide manufactures standard one-year warranty that shall include, but not limited to, coverage for structural, water tightness and finish beginning the day of Substantial Completion of Installation.

MATERIALS
Aluminum Extrusions: All sections shall be extruded or roll formed aluminum 6063 alloy, heat treated to T-6 temper.
Finishes: factory baked enamel finish, specify AAMA 603.8 standard color.
COMPONENTS
Columns: Columns shall be radius-cornered tubular extrusion of size shown on drawings with cutout and internal diverter for drainage where indicated. Circular downspout opening in column is not acceptable.
Beams: Beams shall be extrusions of size and shape shown on drawings, top edges thickened for strength and designed to receive deck members in self-flashing manner. Structural ties shall be installed in tops of all beams.
Deck: Deck shall be .032 roll formed W-pan self-flashing sections interlocking into a composite unit.

Fascia: Fascia shall be manufacturer's standard shape (6” minimum.).
Flashing: Flashing shall be .032 aluminum (min.). All thru-wall flashing is completed by others.
FABRICATION
Drainage: Water shall drain directly from the fascia and be diverted by a scupper plate.
Deck Construction: Deck shall be manufactured of roll formed modules that interlock in a self-flashing manner. Interlocking joints shall be positively fastened at 18" O.C. creating a monolithic structural unit capable of developing the full strength of the sections. The fastenings must have minimum shear strength of 350 pounds each. Deck shall be assembled with sufficient camber to offset dead load deflection.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
PREPARATION
Erection shall be performed after all concrete, masonry, and roofing work in the vicinity is complete and cleaned.
INSTALLATION
Column Sleeves: Column sleeves (styro-foam block-outs) or anchor bolts (if required) shall be furnished by the manufacture and installed by the General Contractor.
Erection: Protective cover shall be erected true to line, level and plumb.
CLEANING
All protective cover components shall be cleaned promptly after installation.
PROTECTION
Extreme care shall be taken to protect materials during and after installation.

STRAINER CAPS AND REPLACE WITH NEW STRAINER CAPS TO MATCH THE
EXISTING MATERIAL TYPE AND SIZES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH AND
INSTALL NEW DRAIN BOWL INSERT INTO THE EXISTING BOWLS PRIOR TO
INSTALLATION OF THE NEW STRAINER CAP. THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR SHALL
VERIFY THE EXISTING DRAIN LINE IS CLEAR PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THE NEW
DRAIN BOWL AND CAP ASSEMBLY. IF DRAIN LINE IS NOT CLEAR, THE

OPENINGS OR OTHER COMPONENTS THAT REQUIRE SERVICE ARE LOCATED WITHIN 10 FEET
OF A ROOF EDGE. GUARDS TO REMAIN IN PLACE PERMANENTLY PER IBC 1015.6
4.) DOWNSPOUTS AND SPLASH BLOCKS SHALL BE PLACED AT EXISTING
LOCATIONS WHEREVER POSSIBLE.

PROVIDE 1/4" PER FT. SLOPE WHERE NEEDED TO DRAIN.
