In the time period between 1942 and 1967 when Modernism gradually shifted to Post-modernism, the editors and publishers of this magazine attempted to influence the way that architecture was portrayed, educated architects on how to posit themselves to the newly emerging consumer market and contributed in the dissemination of Modernism into the colourful and kaleidoscopic ramifications that were later grouped as Post- Modernism. The historical figures of the personnel and its external contributors that are brought forward in this thesis are still in the shadow of the modernist star-architects that they themselves helped to create. Their inventive editorial campaigns trace the struggle for adaptation of the modern movement into the U.S. setting and its subsequent global eminence. As for the architect, through the glossy pages of the Record, she/he was introduced to the American model of business which is still the paradigm at hand. Main Question: How did mid-20 th c. U.S. architectural magazines attempted to influence the course of modernism and the role of the architect from an artist/scientist to a businessman? Deliverables: A monograph (book) in 6 chapters.
