PresenterTrack Configuration Overview (CE8.1)

A Precision 60 camera at the rear of

the room is configured to capture the

whole presenter area.

A trigger zone is configured so that

when a presenter steps into this area

a crop of the presenter is created;

the crop follows the presenter

wherever they walk within the

presenter area.

How It Works: Details

Ultrasound Frequencies

The sound frequencies used are between 20 kHz and 22 kHz.

Application Listening

Once paired, the Proximity application for mobile stops listening for 30 seconds in order to preserve battery life.

Data Transfer

Snapshots from a local or far-end presentation will be transcoded to JPG images by the endpoint and then transmitted to the mobile device using HTTPS.

Cisco® Proximity connections

depends on the endpoint.

The client will warn new users if

the maximum number of

connections has been reached.

Privacy

If you can hear speech from

outside a room, a Cisco®

Proximity-enabled device may be

able to detect the audio pairing

signal, receive the token and

initiate a connection.

The display name shown when a

Cisco Proximity device connects to

an endpoint is taken from the name

of the device.

Security

If two incorrect tokens are received

from a Cisco® Proximity-enabled

device, the IP address of the device

will be banned for 10 minutes. If 10 IP

addresses are banned, the service is

halted for 1 hour.

The token changes every 180

seconds. It is transferred over

ultrasound and must be provided

to the endpoint over HTTPS to

authenticate the device and avoid

being disconnected.

Considerations

The maximum bandwidth a Cisco®

Proximity client may consume

is about 2 Mbps.

The mobile device needs to be

able to reach the IPv4 address

of the endpoint in the room

using HTTPS/443.

Considerations (Continued)

With Cisco® MX Series systems,

Cisco has tested and verified that

Proximity works as expected. For

Cisco SX Series systems using

third-party speakers, additional

testing may be required.

Component systems (SX) with

external speakers cannot pair if

the speakers (for example a TV

in stand-by) are turned off.

Considerations (Continued)

Rooms with hard surfaces may

cause challenges due to severe

audio reflections. Acoustical

treatment of meeting rooms is

always highly recommended for

the best meeting experience as

well as Proximity performance.

If two systems in the same room

have Cisco® Proximity enabled,

interference is likely to occur. This

may lead to problems with

endpoint discovery and

session maintenance.

Considerations (Continued)

Cisco® Proximity is optimized for

low frame rate content such as

PowerPoint presentations. The

endpoint will try to prevent

duplication using change detection.

Considerations (Continued)

The Proximity applications collect anonymous data about application usage. This

data is collected to understand how the clients are used, to diagnose problems, to

respond to customer support requests, to conduct analytics and aggregate

statistical analysis, and to improve the client and other Cisco products and

services. More information about data collection can be found in the supplemental

privacy statement for Cisco Proximity.

The Proximity for Windows client does not support the tile based Windows interface introduced with Windows 8.

In addition the Windows client is launched as a public Beta. This is due to potential problems we have detected during product testing where some Windows laptops are not able to record sound in the ultrasound frequency range (20kHz-22 kHz).

This can be due to frequency limitations with the soundcard, sound driver or the internal microphone of the particular device. Users are encouraged to install and Beta test the Windows client and provide feedback to Cisco where possible.

For information on deploying Proximity to multiple computers using a .msi file see the support forum (link on the final slide).
