TEAMING UP FOR Urban Transformation

11:00 am – 12:00 noon STUDY: AIMING AT SUCCESS IN PPP THROUGH PRIVATE AREA DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES Very few unsolicited proposals by private parties actually lead to successful public-pri-

vate partnerships, even though this construction has a great deal going for it now

that the division of tasks and market conditions in the field of area development are

changing. What are the success factors here, and what means of control are available

for the public and private parties involved? What are the necessary conditions for

success, and which factors are decisive in this connection? Learn the results of a holistic

study carried out in cooperation with the department of Urban Management and

Development at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

the department of Urban Management and Development at Erasmus University Rotter-

dam WHERE: ARCADIS stand, Hall 10, stand 32

11.30 am – 12.30 pm FORUM: NEW ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR AMBITIOUS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FOR RAILWAY STATIONS AND THEIR SURROUNDINGS The modernisation of railway stations and track in many big cities is combined with

development of the area surrounding the station, transforming these access nodes into

widely sought-after locations for companies, with stylish residential and recreational

facilities for residents and visitors. This combination gives the inner-city areas in ques-

tion a welcome boost. Now that railway companies, government at various levels and

private parties have scaled down their investment policies, new sources of investment

are needed. This forum discusses new investment strategies, mobility-oriented develop-

ment and smart mobility.

BY: Nicola Shaw, CEO of High Speed One in London; Eric van der Burg, alderman from

the municipality of Amsterdam; Nicolas Capelle, Motel One; Wendy Verschoor, director

of ARCADIS Buildings division, and others WHERE: PROVADA Forum 2, Hall 11

4.00 – 7.00 pm NETWORKING RECEPTION FOR FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS: DRIVE BETTER PERFORMANCE, IMPROVE SUSTAINABLE RETURNSInvestors, banks and other financial institutions are tightening their belts in response

to the current climate of low interest rates, high risk premiums, growing interest from

abroad, low occupancy rates and sustainability targets. The gap between winners and

losers is steadily widening. This networking reception gives you the opportunity to

enjoy a drink while ARCADIS explains how it can help you to maximise the yield from

your real estate investments, manage your costs and boost your competitive edge and

returns for shareholders.

TUESDAY JUNE 2 2015TEAMING UP FOR URBAN TRANSFORMATION 12.30 – 1.30 pm POLL: YOUNG PROFESSIONALS ON THEIR CITY OF THE

FUTUREWhat will your life look like in 2040? Will you live in the city or in the country? Will

you shop in the high street, in a hypermarket on the edge of town or online? Will you

have a car, or use public transport? Will you work at home or in the office? Our young

professionals put these and other questions to other professions of the same age. You

can share their vision of the city of the future during this lunchtime get-together.

Jaap van Velzen, ARCADIS young professionals WHERE: ARCADIS stand, Hall 10,

stand 32

2.00 – 3.00 pm TEST: HOW MATURE IS YOUR ASSET MANAGEMENT ORGANISATION? A great deal is expected of asset owners and asset managers. Ambitions are often

high, budgets are shrinking and the risks associated with asset ownership and exploi-

tation are growing. Professional asset management aims at creating a situation where

your investment in assets gives maximum yield while keeping risks acceptable and

controllable. How mature is your asset management organisation?

BY: Rémi Adriaansens, director of ARCADIS Municipalities sector, and Herman

Arentsen, ARCADIS senior Asset Management consultant WHERE: ARCADIS stand,

Hall 10, stand 32

3.30 – 4.30 pm CASE STUDY: RESIDENTS TACKLE PROBLEMS IN LOCAL ENVIRONMENT THEMSLEVESEveryone knows the situation: a stubborn problem, where risks, nuisance or poor living

conditions persist because no agreement can be reached about the right approach.

More and more members of the public are tired of waiting for the professionals to get

their act together, and take the initiative to tackle the problems themselves. This ap-

proach often yields the desired results. KNHM – actively supports public involvement in

community planning. This case study illustrates the good results that can be obtained

with reference to a project in the municipality of Montfort.

BY: Frank van Bussel, director of KNHM and Klaas Hemke van Meekeren from the

municipality of Montfoort WHERE: ARCADIS stand, Hall 10, stand 32

10.30 – 11.15 am FORUM: WORKING TOGETHER FOR STRONG, RESILIENT CITIES Cities and their hinterland are increasingly subject to cross-border competition. The

room for manoeuvre in our low countries behind the dikes is becoming too small,

especially as far as the knowledge economy is concerned. Our cities need to become

more adaptable. Of course, we need to go on investing in high-quality facilities

and accessibility. But the city of the future will above all have to invest in flexibility,

to enable it to respond promptly to transient economic opportunities and climate

change. This demands a new approach to urban planning and its financing. New

coalitions are the key to success.

BY: Carolien Gehrels, director of ARCADIS Big Urban Clients Europe; Wienke Bodewes, CEO of Amvest; Arnoud Molenaar, Chief Resilience Officer for the municipality of Rotterdam and others WHERE: PROVADA Forum 2, Hall 11

1.30 – 2.30 pm FORUM: FUTURE LIVING ENVIRONMENTS: WHAT DOES TOMORROW’S CONSUMER WANT?Society is changing rapidly. What are the real-estate requirements of tomorrow’s

consumer? Do we see the same picture in every locality, or do we have to reinvent

the wheel for every new situation? Is the Randstad (the urban agglomeration

between Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht) the only part of the Netherlands that

is growing? What preparations are being made for urban growth? Which projects

have a good chance of success in the suburban and rural areas of the Netherlands?

BY: Peter Savelberg, director of Urban Game Changers; Eric Wigman, ARCADIS

consultant on Peripheral Transformation; Johan de Niet, Residential Neighbourhood

Restructuring programme manager for Parkstad Limburg, and others WHERE: PROVADA Forum 1, Hall 11

2.45 - 3.30 pm MASTER CLASS IN SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT: CITIES CAN LEARN A LOT FROM ONE ANOTHER!Enterprising cities transcend regional and national boundaries. An increasing num-

ber of cities are opting to reposition themselves on a flexible basis in order to stay

liveable, attractive and competitive in attracting new residents, companies, investors,

centres of excellence, visitors and cultural organisations. The ARCADIS Sustainable

Cities Index ranks 50 world-class cities on the basis of their status and flexibility.

Where are the opportunities for public and private investment? For sustainable rein-

forcement and progress? For people, planet and profit? Wherever the opportunities

are, cities – regardless of their size – can learn a lot from one another!

BY: Carolien Gehrels, director of ARCADIS Big Urban Clients Europe; Merijn

van Essen, ARCADIS European lead for Master Planning and Sustainable Urban

Development; and Wim Fieggen, director of the Institute for Real Estate &

Sustainability, Schiedam WHERE: PROVADA Forum 2, Hall 11

Becoming stronger, more attractive and successful. Creating new opportunities. Being prepared for the risks that may arise. Cities and their stakeholders worldwide are investing in becoming more competitive in order to remain attractive to customers, residents, businesses, investors, new talent, knowledge institutions and visitors.

PUBLIC-PRIVATE COALITIONS FORM THE KEY TO SUCCESS. Governments, businesses, investors, knowledge institutions, developers, citizens and interest groups are inspiring, learning and strengthening one another and working together to create sustainable results for the city as a whole and for each of its stakeholders.

TEAMING UP FOR URBAN TRANSFORMATION… For sustainable economic development, the balanced distribution of wealth, perspective, talent development and employment opportunities, innovation, security and quality of living and new strategies for attracting investment and making it pay. It works. That’s why ARCADIS is sharing experience and networks via such platforms as the World Urban Campaign, World Business Council, C40 Connecting Delta Cities Network, Eurbanlab and numerous regional initiatives. We also stimulate the exchange of experience and best practices with research and publications and via platforms such as Realty (Brussels), PROVADA (Amsterdam) and EXPO Real (Munich). .

We hope to see you at the ARCADIS stand at the PROVADA real estate congress (Hall 10, stand 32), to discover how our experience and networking skills can help you to realise your ambitions.
