The quality assurance review of data from the analysis of four liquid and four solid samples collected from the SJOB Plating Shop Site in Las Vegas, Nevada has been completed. All eight samples were analyzed for pH and Total Copper. Other analyses performed were Total Cyanide, WAD Cyanide, Total Nickel and Eight RCRA metals by TCLP extraction. These analyses were performed at Environmental Technologies of Nevada Inc. laboratory in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The samples were numbered as follows:

    B-l, V- 4, A- 1, B- 7, S-l, FC, SPT, and SPB.

    Data Qualifications:

    I. Holding Time: Acceptable

The samples were delivered to the laboratory on July 29, 1992. The pHs were analyzed on July 30th. The total copper, total nickel and TCLP RCRA metals were all extracted on July 31st and analyzed on August 3rd. The WAD cyanide was analyzed on August 5th and the total cyanide was extracted and analyzed on August 8th. All samples were prepared, extracted and analyzed within the prescribed limitations.

  • Instrument Performance: Acceptable

For the metals, all the values are within the calibration verification range.

III. Method Spike And Method Spike Duplicate: Acceptable

For the metals analysis, four of the eight spiked analytes were within the specified limits. The specific analytes of concern at the SJOB site, are luckily the analytes that were within the specified limits. The percent recovery of the TCLP metals was marginally acceptable.

For the cyanides, at this lab they only run their standards every two days. Therefore, the samples analyzed on the 5th were grouped with the standards run on the 3rd. For QA/QC II purposes this is just not acceptable. However, for screening purposes this will suffice.

    IV. Blanks: Acceptable

All the analyses performed contained the prescribed number of method blanks for each run of each analysis performed.

    V. Overall Assessment: Acceptable

The samples meet the minimum requirements for quality assurance level "QA -2" and were evaluated in accordance with the recommendations of the interim final version of the "QA/QC Guidance for Removal Activities: Data Validation Procedures" of April 1990 ( EPA/5 40/G - 9 0/00 A ) . " Unfortunately, this laboratory did not quite run their QA/QC as per requested in our deliverable package. They did not run the necessary number of pH standards, or metals and the cyanide standards looked as though they had simply been copied and not run. No serial dilutions were performed on diluted samples. Therefore I must consider all of their results reported as estimates.
