AquaProof
A barrier liner for various applications
The layers
• EPDM rubber (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber)– high mechanical stability– good chemical stability (~10 years)
• PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) skived foil– low mechanical stability– ultimate chemical stability ( for eternity )
The construction
first EPDM layer PTFE foil
PTFE foil treated
final EPDM layer
What is the unique with such setup?
• There a just 5 companies in the world which are able to etch PTFE = pulling fluorine atoms out of the PTFE molecule chains and destroying (etching) the surface up to a depth of about 20-30µm
• 2 in the USA, 1 in Italy, 1 in UK and 1 in Germany• none of them is able just to treat (depth of 1-3µm) the
surface of thin foils, what is necessary to laminate EPDM with PTFE
• just the company POLYMADE in Germany is able to treat the surfaces of thin foils without destroying them
• POLYMADE is part of the MS Licence group
Why such an effort ?
• there are bacteria which are able to crack the C-C binding in anaerobic processes
• soil temperatures of up to 50°C accelerating the micro-biological activities exponentially
• what is stable in Europe for 20-30 years lasts in the Middle East not even 10 years
• only PTFE cannot be attacked by bacteria due to the super-stable C-C bonding, sheltered by the fluorine atoms surrounding
Aquaproof is:
1. UV stabile2. UV transparent3. resisting against all acids and lye’s, especially also against
brines4. stabile against all kind of enzymatic reactions of micro-
organisms5. an antifouling material6. watertight7. airtight8. barrier for water, oil, petrol, gasoline etc
AquaProof can be used as:• Golf Course lake liners • Recreational Pond liners • Aquaculture Pond liners • Canal Liners • Potable Water Reservoir liners • Secondary Containment • Roof liner• Barrier to prevent the trickle in of sea-water into
the good garden soil
