Tours of the College of Veterinary Medicine will be guided bycurrent DVM students and will last approximately one hour. The first tour will begin at 8 am and the last tour will begin at 4:15pm. Tours will depart from the outside front entrance of the Small Animal Hospital.

Transportation will be provided to the UF Dairy Unit and the Santa Fe Teaching Zoo. Transportation will depart from the front of the Veterinary Academic Building 3 minutes after the start of the scheduled lab time.

This lecture will provide an overview of the life of a veterinarian working with acupuncture and rehabilitation.Anesthesia: Large Animal A day in the life of a large animal anesthesiologist. Aquatic Medicine: From Manatees to Fish This lecture will explore the dynamics of working as an aquatic medicine veterinarian and the variety of clients you will see in practice. Bovine Veterinary MedicineLearn about a day in the life of a food animal veterinarian working primarily with beef

cattle.Cardiology and Cardiac Procedures This lecture will provide an overview of minimally invasive procedures used to fix cardiac disease in animals.

Colic and Large Animal ER First Aid The current therapies for equine emergency colic will be explained and discussed. Critical Thinking and Diagnosis: How to Think Like a Veterinarian This is a fun lecture on how much information you can get out of a routine physical exam coupled with some good common sense. It will emphasize what to pay attention to when performing a physical exam as well as how to better read/interpret the animal when performing diagnostic exams.Dairy Veterinary Medicine Gain insight into the life of a veterinarian working in the dairy industry. This lecture will provide an introduction to the basics of image-guided interventions including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and endoscopy.Information on Becoming a Specialist

The process to gain a veterinary specialty degree will be explained as well as what it means to be a ‘specialist.’ Some examples of various specialties that exist will be discussed for students to consider as potential career paths.Laboratory Medicine/ Research Gain insight into the research field of veterinary medicine. A comparison of being a veterinary researcher versus being a practicing clinician will be discussed. The common duties of researchers will also be discussed, such as grant proposals, reading, writing, and presenting journal articles.

Pathology Necropsy Observe the steps necessary to perform post- mortem exams, and observe possible lesions found. Sample collection, techniques, and equipment will be discussed. Learning objectives include becoming familiar with post-mortem techniques and equipment, as well as examining normal and abnormal anatomy of sample specimens. Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Different modalities of pet rehabilitation will be demonstrated including theunderwater treadmill, laser therapy, and acupuncture. Students will learn the importance of physical therapy and acupuncture in veterinary medicine. Suture Training Learn basic sterile techniques, instrument manipulation, and various suture patterns. Students will have a chance to try several different and challenging suture patterns commonly used in veterinary medicine.Tour to Santa Fe Teaching Zoo (1pm-4pm, Transportation Provided) Students will have a unique opportunity to observe the daily routine of a zoo medicine veterinarian at one of the few teaching zoos in the country. They will learn the importance of good husbandry for exotic animal species kept in captivity.Tour to Teaching Dairy Unit (8am-12pm, Transportation Provided) Witness the daily routine of a large animal dairy veterinarian and learn the importance of good husbandry in production medicine.UF CVM Tours The University of Florida Veterinary School Hospital is one of the most modern teaching hospitals in the United States. Students will have a unique opportunity to observe the daily routine of a busy veterinary hospital and learn about the latest technology applied to veterinary care. Veterinary Forensic Pathology (CSI)This lab compliments the lecture “Veterinary Forensics” and focuses on

the external examination of deceased victims of animal abuse. Participants will be able to examine animal cadavers for evidence of abuse and learn the step-by-step process involved in properly documenting evidence of abuse. You will learn about the equipment, personnel, and forms required for performing this forensic examination.
