Thank You Dear Centre Church Family, Thank you for the food that nourished our bodies after Mom’s service. We enjoyed the food as well as the fellowship. Thanks to all for the cards, visits and special treats Mom received over the years. Mother’s Centre Church family has been important to her over the years. There was a bond that was formed during her fifty some years as a member of Centre that was priceless. Thank you again for everything.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is good news! "Gospel" literally means

"good news". Its a message of freedom. That's the news that is so

good. But freedom from what? Freedom to what? Freedom for what?

In our culture we think of freedom as a personal right. We have a

right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Those are the words

from the Declaration of Independence. The nation's founding fathers

debated the rule of law and the abuses of those laws by the King of Great Britain. They deter-

mined that God gives each man and woman unalienable rights (i.e., rights that are impossible to

take away or give up). So we are freed from British rule to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of

happiness. To delineate those specific rights our Constitution

includes a Bill enumerating twenty-seven rights including the

freedom of religion and speech. The danger we face in apply-

ing these freedoms is in thinking that we can worship any-

thing or say anything without consequences. Courts are filled

with complaints where people have abused religious faith to

the determent of others. There are a voluminous numbers of

cases where a person has lied or impugned the integrity of

another through lies and deceit.

The Gospel proclaims that we are first and foremost freed from out

ignorance of God through our faith in Jesus Christ. Paul writes in

Galatians 4:8 "you were enslaved" by what you once believed. Be-

fore coming to know God through Jesus Christ we were left to our

own insight and imagination as to who God is and why God has

made us. Regardless of how noble our attempt, how sincere our

search, how zealous our devotion, we were separated from God in

our thinking, feeling or acting by our rebellious nature. We were

slaves to sin.

The Gospel proclaims that we are free to know and love God.

This isn't a fact finding mission where we list the attributes of

God and analyze Him under a microscope of perception. The

good news is that through Jesus Christ we have an access to

God that is relational and personal. We can truly know God

relationally. We can talk with God and hear God talk to us.

We can commune with the God we now have come to know.

Finally, the Gospel is the good news that we are free to pursue

God and all that He has created us for. The chief end of our

life is to know God and enjoy Him forever. Knowing God is

never an accomplished task. We learn each day in how to

trust and obey the Lord through interacting with Him in the

Bible, prayer, worship, fellowship and acts of service.

I hope that you are growing in your understanding of the Gospel and learning through these five

basics of the faith the power of the Gospel and experiencing each day the good news we have in

Jesus Christ.

If anyone has any church records, either old newspaper articles, books, photos, etc. that they would like to donate to the church, please let me know. Thank you! Shirley Wagers Email: [email protected] Tel: (704) 360-4838

We plan to have members of the Church sitting at several gravesites in the old grave-yard during the Fall Festival on October 24. They will explain to visitors the person who is buried there and what that person achieved during his/her lifetime. Priority for docents will be given to relatives of those buried, but anyone with a flair for recitation and an interest in history would be more than welcome. If you are interested, please contact Chris Brotherton, June Robb, Lee Ann Jenkins, or Russ Gavitt and please come to any or all of the meetings of the 250th Anniversary team which will be held in the Brantley Room at 7 pm on August 26, September 16 and October 14. Even if you don’t wish to be a docent, you would be welcome at any of those meetings. We have lots of activities planned at the Church this year and would welcome any help you could offer.

EVEREST…..what an amazing expedition!!! What challenges the folks in that re-gion have faced this past year!!! Our kids learned this year at VBS EVEREST how

to conquer challenges through GOD’S ALMIGHTY POWER!!!! VBS at Centre reached approximately 65 kids this summer…..sharing the wonderful, saving

gospel of Jesus Christ. I always find it so incredibly heartwarming and promis-ing at how eager and open their hearts are to God’s LOVE. I also find it heart-

warming and promising as to how many volunteers join us for not just the week but also weeks prepping for and wrapping up VBS. We had 50 loving

volunteers and that is a great testimony to the serving hearts in our church and community. We had a tremendous amount of items donated to VBS to help with this ministry, and the mission total to send children’s New Testament Thai Bibles amounts to $631.185 (that’s 157 Bibles). Without each of you, your gifts and your talents, Centre would not be so privileged to share the Gospel in this

fashion… and because of that I thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart. THANK YOU—for being an important part of this outreach!!!!!

Come join us next year-spelunking?????

ALL FOR HIM, Amy Brotherton.
