MUSIC & MEMORY
Our program aims to bring ipods with personalized playlists (songs that are meaningful
and specific to your family member) to each of our residents at Buchanan Lodge over the
next couple of years. Families can be a big help with this program by making a list of songs
their loved one living at Buchanan likes to listen to. Also, include favourite artists, favourite
songs from the past to the present, songs sung to you by
your parents, favourite plays and musicals, and specific genres
of music (country, classical, etc.). Once you have collected
the list please pass it on to Trish, Recreation Coordinator
([email protected]) so we can start adding songs
to an Ipod for your family member.

This world is confused enough without adding a day dedicated to more
foolishness, but we do it anyways! I’ve always loved a good prank and
hopefully we’ll start off this month with an equal to these classic April Fools
pranks:
Smell-o-vision -1965, BBC TV featured an interview with a professor who
had just invented a device called "smellovision." This miraculous technology
allowed viewers to experience in their own home aromas produced in the
television studio. The professor offered a demonstration by cutting onions
and brewing coffee. Many viewers called in to confirm that they distinctly
experienced these scents as if they were right there in the studio with him.
Chunnel Blunder - 1990, the News of the World reported that the
Chunnel project, which was already suffering from huge cost overruns,
would face another big additional expense caused by a colossal engineering
blunder. Apparently the two halves of the tunnel, being built simultaneously
from the coasts of France and England, would miss each other by 14 feet.
The error was attributed to the fact that French engineers had insisted on
using metric specifications in their blueprints. The mistake would reported-
ly cost $14 billion to fix.
Threenie - Here at home, in 2008, the CBC Radio program As It Happens
interviewed a Royal Canadian Mint spokesman who broke "news" of plans
to replace the Canadian five-dollar bill with a three-dollar coin. The coin
was dubbed a "threenie.”
April Fools Day reminds us that believing something doesn’t make it true.
Contrary to popular opinion, truth is not relative. There is no “my truth”
or “your truth,” only “the truth.” Believing the earth is flat, no matter how
passionate you are, will not change the shape of our very spherical planet.
Truth is not based on what we believe; however, what we believe should
be based on absolute truth.
If people hear something that is false and think that it’s true – we call them
a fool (eg. April Fools), Likewise, when someone hears something that is
true and thinks it’s false, the Bible says they are a fool. Psalms 14:1 says that
the fool says in his heart there is no God. The evidence is all around us. From
April showers to May flowers, creation is all the evidence
we need to know there is a Creator (check out Romans
1:18-22). Believe it - the Truth will set you free -
no fooling!
Chaplain Rob
Through every-
thing God made,
they can clearly
see his invisible
qualities - his
eternal power
and divine
nature. So they
have no excuse
for not knowing
God... Claiming
to be wise, they
instead became
utter fools.
